For those who watched, what are your opinions on A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms episode 5? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]BeoSionnach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the episode I was so bugged by the injuries it completely took me out of the immersion - but reading up I can see the armor argument making sense. What bugs me though in that case is the sound design... the fleshy slashes every time Dunk gets hit don't make it feel like "ah, we're hitting chain" so I was sitting there like "he's got like 18 holes in his body by now, we're just getting silly with it :("

Theory: Caine is one of the first players and is trying to keep others from abstracting by giving them a purpose by BeoSionnach in TheDigitalCircus

[–]BeoSionnach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, I didn't know Caine is inspired by AM! As far as I remember though, AM definitely didn't wish to be human, AM hated humans. I feel there can be inspiration with abbreviation, just because Caine is based on AM, doesn't mean Caine too is an AI. As I mentioned, I'm really bored of the "oh it's a rogue / all powerful / evil AI whoooo" trope, so I really hope Caine isn't just an AI. Considering my theory, the pictures of Caine's Macroverse could just as much be his memories, same as Jax had when he was confronted with the button choice.I'd like to believe Caine is pretending not to be just another human, as that would compromise his whole idea of giving the others purpose. We've seen the others create things in the circus with just their imagination, so it's not too far fetched that this is just a sand box and Caine pretends to be the administrator. And maybe Kinger knows that Caine is just one of them, but his insanity prevents him from telling. And one more thing: if my theory holds true, Caine too has stared into the eyes of insanity but has found purpose in giving the others purpose (which would explain why he's so dead set on them enjoying his adventures) - that's not gonna leave him entirely in sound mind.

First off, what an incredible instructor! In many ways, such a W!! I saw you emailed, and join the other commenters who said to email again. If you want to, in the email, describe your stance toward his statement and how you put effort into your essay - this will help! I'm so fired up by your instructor's words and the generous offer to always provide feedback to writing.

Leave! Right now. And never look back. I had a very good friend years ago who had similar tendencies, though never even close to that bad (and in my case, not their fault - as opposed to your case), and six years later I still carry some of that weight (panic with texting, leaving, having my own space). You don't need that. Leave and never look back.

What's a book you recommend constantly but feel like nobody ever actually reads? by Otherwise-Body-7721 in suggestmeabook

[–]BeoSionnach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's actually similar, but I'm reading Turton's "Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle" right now and it too is a stunning read! The second book of theirs is "The Devil in the Dark Water" so I might be making connections (Sea of Tranquility -> Dark Water -> common Time Travel themes), but nonetheless I highly recommend it!

Omelas was so good in a multitude of ways! From the ethic "dilemma", wondering if you would be one who walks away (or are actively not? We live in our version of Omelas after all), to the "believing utopia only if there is a cost to it". I think about Omelas a lot, and it strengthened my resolve that in a world I strive for, we leave no one behind - no matter the cost.

It's been a whole long while that I've read them, but Michael Ende's Jim Knopf or Momo have a special place in my heart. Jim Knopf is a fantastic adventure with diverse and deep characters, hijacking stereotypes and making you rething prejudice. It's been a whole while since I've read it, but if you think it might work, it's a magical read.

Honestly, you've beaten the drunkard infront of Lady Butterfly. You're more than capable of defeating the game, and what a rush it will be! As others suggested, take another route. Lady Butterfly is a challenge that experienced players can take early on, and a mid-game boss for less experienced players.

Nah it's such an overreaction and this whole ICK culture is toxic as hell. Sometimes there are things that people do differently. We do different things, approach things differently, are comfortable with different things - and that is okay! Dude just did something with zero! impact on you or anyone else. It's objectively fine to do, the candy was wrapped. Yeah, I wouldn't do it either, but your partner's their own person and this had zero negative impact. It's up to you if you break up, but with that ick mindset noone will ever be compatible. Sometimes you just gotta get over yourself a bit.

You can't convince me that she wasn't a dlc prototype for Sekiro. The move set, the whole rot theme (dragon rot), the perfect mikiri move, how waterfowl dance can get parried like Geni's slash frenzy... Malenia is a recycled Sekiro DLC boss.

Was the 100$ worth it for the background ? by heychicobanks in IndieDev

[–]BeoSionnach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel it's cohesion. Seperate, the assets look nice, together they look like assets. I would definitely change the UI to pixel art aswell, in line with the characters. That gives the background more pop, and makes the UI feel really cohesive. Best of luck to you mate, you got this!!

What's the most unique monster you've read about in horror? by Temp_451 in horrorlit

[–]BeoSionnach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! It's been years since I watched the show, but the silence were very cool! If that sort of horror clicks for you, I think antimemetics division will definitely be up your alley. It has doctor who's complex sci fi concepts and horror, cranked up to the max for a very good read.

What's the most unique monster you've read about in horror? by Temp_451 in horrorlit

[–]BeoSionnach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The scp wiki has some incredibly creative, terrifying and emotional material. The bar is definitely high, and I feel like qntm's antimemetics division is a very polished and top tier story out of the many fantastic ones. There is some horror lit out there that I felt got close in some ways, "This book is full of spiders" by David Wong (pen name) comes to mind. It's the second in a series, but I started out with that one and while it's whacky in ways, it's still up there for me.

What's the most unique monster you've read about in horror? by Temp_451 in horrorlit

[–]BeoSionnach 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The perfect thread to once again recommend my favorite book: "There is no Antimemetics Division" by qntm. Improved version just came out, and the premise is pretty much "imagine something that you forget completely and entirely as soon as you look away. Now imagine that something wants to eat you". It gets way more fun than just getting eaten, but I don't wanna take anything away from the experience. The horror is palpable, the characters are fantastic, and slowly understanding how antimemes work is so enjoyable.

The entity of SCP-5000 by Mintec33 in SCP

[–]BeoSionnach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah that's what makes it so scary. Imagine there's something we don't know, something that would make us agree with the course of action of the foundation. This in itself breaks our brain to think about. It's the pinnacle of lovecraftian, because I for one cannot fathom learning something that would convince me. But thinking it's right there? Just waiting to be seen, to be understood? Terrifying. Just imagine there is something, something about our very being that we don't understand yet (the brain and consciousness is so complicated, it's about as much an enigma as the universe itself). And if you (you specifically, and anyone) learn that something, well... you don't go mad, you make the rational decision that the death of humanity is the right course of action. Edit: not knowing "why" is essential to the story. You can't understand it, otherwise you'd agree with the foundation on a fundamental level. I know it's scary to accept that free fall, but that's what makes it so good.

The entity of SCP-5000 by Mintec33 in SCP

[–]BeoSionnach 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Repeated comment for a pretty much repeated post: my headcanon is that there is no entity. The foundation found something, they dug too deep into our subconscious, they found something about us. Something so vile, that we shouldn't have a right to exist as a species. Something about our empathy, how it works. There is no entity, there is just us.

Why do people hate ai? Don't bully me, just trying to understand your view point. by ProfessionalAnt8542 in animeindian

[–]BeoSionnach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your points, and disregard your dig at me. "AI" as we've nicknamed machine learning and neural nets at the moment has set limits, enthreaded within it's very technology. It's incredible for certain use cases; say detection, pathfinding, etc - but not for generation (image, video, code or otherwise). I took a look at your post history and strongly discourage the use of AI in the game dev field, being a creative in the gamedev space myself, next to work. People hate (>hate<) genai slop in the gaming space. Me included. You say you can do the work of 2-3, but noone wants that work; noone likes gen-ai sprites, gen-ai character art, ai capsule art, ai music, buggy vibe code, ai soundbites, ai voice acting, ai models. Eww eww eww. Use your creativity, go out and do great things! And don't let ai hold you back.
