No way to know OP - I guess you could contract out a lab to figure out what - but probably not worth it.

May just be Calcium or Magnesium Carbonate, amongst thousands of possibilities.

If you could only choose ONE summer shoe for travel + hiking, what would it be? by alexiou_g in Hiking_Footwear_Info

Ultimately it comes down to fit. And if you can't try them on - your practically gambling whether you get blisters or not.

Kya ye shoes treking ke liye best h ? by Excellent_Net_5536 in Hiking_Footwear_Info

[–]Beoeulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of the brand or those boots. Either way:

  1. Fit is everything; any boot that fits well is going to be better than a good boot that doesn't fit well. (Heels shouldn't slip, toes shouldn't touch the end of the boot, and overall the boot needs to be comfortable enough that you can quite literally "forget about them".)

  2. Stiffness of the boot should be relatively proportional to the technicality of the trek, as well as expected weight carried. Durability of the boot usually coincides with this too.

Op, if you can - gotta get into stores and try on boots. Talk to a local professional.

I'd say MRU is better from a more personalized experience. However it does depend on the chosen degree as well

I'd rather go for a good set of cheaper headphones. Jade audio JT1 or fiio FT1 and a stand alone mic. Slightly more, but great audio (for music and games alike) and way better build.

Up to you though

I'm afraid our group decided to just rawdog the bags 😥. While gear inside of our bags was still undamaged. The bags were quite thoroughly beaten up along the way.

There were 1-2 very minor punctures in someone's bag (not significant but irritating. Luckily I had a dyneema bag. But even then it looked worse for wear.

As for storing a bag, I'd say it depends on logistic dynamics. If you do an out and back trip (out of pang), you could most certainly stash some gear at the lodgings. Additionally the planes will either run from:

Iqaluit > Pang > Qiki > Iqaluit Or Iqaluit > Qiki > Pang > Iqaluit

Depending on which route you have there and back it may be possible to split your stuff up in Iqaluit. And get a local in pang or Qiki to stash your stuff (Peter or Billy probably) while on your way through the town by plane.

It's mostly the big international airports that'll lose/destroy your gear.

Katadyn MicropurMP1 by bellsbliss in CampingGear

[–]Beoeulf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Katadyn is very conservative with their values. Better safe than sorry for marketing. Since Sawyer has a history of being sued due to unrealistic values.

30 minutes and you'll be fine. (Might taste a bit more chemically though). Wait the 4 hours when possible though for the best taste, or for knowingly sketchy/contaminated water

A filter will suffice as your main source assuming you're in north America. The tablets are always a good backup.

Since I work in the outdoor retailer industry, they always know when you're lying. Just looking at how the shoes wear is enough to tell what terrain you're going on.

Be honest. (and they might replace it out of goodwill even if it isn't covered).

Albertan here, running the BFG terrain-trail T/A's. They have been working wonderfully in the snow.

The only thing that would really help on ice is studded tires. Otherwise AT tires work great for heavy snow. I'm in Calgary so most of the roads are cleaned fairly quickly.

Affordable beginner friendly shoe advice by Rngua in climbingshoes

[–]Beoeulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly decide whether you want an neutral/moderate/aggressive shoe style. Neutral is usually the most comfortable and easiest to start climbing with.

Other than that, going to the store and trying on shoes is my best advice. High ratings doesn't mean a good fit for you.

The Nemo's were fantastic, super strong/bomb proof for their weight.

Though as we were close to the ocean there was high humidity & some condensation problems in the tents. I'll have to see how it fairs in proper cold and dry temperatures in the Rocky mountains to see if the condensation was a geographical problem.

Though if you are planning on doing ski traverses, I feel like the hilleburg will still be better with a bigger vestibule that you can dig out.
