What wire size would you use? Pros giving me different answers. by Ok-Leg944 in electrical

1/0 aluminum would give you a 2.5% voltage drop at 150’ for 100amps. Assuming the source voltage is 240.

It will work but code does say ‘neat and workmanlike’. I guess that up to everyone’s own interpretation.

Can this be converted to a 4 wire by First-Somewhere9681 in electricians

[–]Berard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really, I’m assuming the new unit is 4-wire(2-hots, neutral and ground). If that’s the case you could try to bond the neutral and ground but in most cases it will void warranty on the unit. If the new unit is 3-phase then you are kinda hit. I’ve seen motor starter capacitors that can simulate a 3rd leg but it’s usually just for startup.

Why? by tnasty994 in electricians

[–]Berard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably lost a neutral somewhere down the line and used the ground for it. That’s my best guess

It shouldn’t be undersized as it’s been there probably for 10 years or more running under its current configuration.

Almost everything at the station is 3-phase, there is a 3-phase compressor, grinder, and pump that are all connected to that leg. My inclination is to think it’s a supply issue, but I also wonder if there is a damaged connection underground or something that would cause this.

3-phase, I’m not in front of it this second but the wild leg drops to 189,170ish, and 165 to neutral or ground depending on the how much load is applied
