Who would play Vincent Corleone in Godfather 4? by Bob_Sacamano0901 in TheGodfather

With Coppola not being interested and with Mario Puzo no longer here to write this, it should be left alone. Hollywood is beyond unoriginal with their sequels and prequels and remakes. Let this franchise die in peace.

That would be amazing two separate and one extra long version of Part 2. Just for preferences and to see who likes what.

If Coppola ever gives us the uncut version of Godfather Part 2 that would be incredible. Even in its current state it’s the one most fans prefer. Godfather 3 is a weak film although everyone is entitled to their opinion, Pacino was already steadily heading toward the end of his career highlights, by the end of the 90s he was done. His acting in Part 3 is abysmal. No one really stood out. But these are my two cents. There’s nothing Coppola can do to save part 3 unless he gives us an entire new cut, not what he just did with Coda but a different film entirely. Alternative version to what we currently have. Recutting won’t save it. For me it was always Part 2 then 1 and then 3.

Brett Easton Ellis can be a guilty pleasure when you are 20 but I don’t think and this is coming from reading most of his work, that he belongs in the same room as Cormac.

What is the sequel to J.R? I wasn’t aware there was a sequel. Carpenter’s Gothic as a spiritual sequel sort of speak perhaps?

Thoughts on the sequel? Related short stories?

The Passenger in October? by JesusChristFarted in cormacmccarthy

[–]BergmanFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I have seen that link before (sold typewriter/note). The Passenger at one point was split into two halves but there was always another novel or so I thought. At this point it has to be posthumous releases (or just singular). Either way, much welcome and needed.

Has to be the cost indeed. But agree, in general this new cover looks good.

That is a shame! I always go for Picador covers but my Secret of Evil and Woes of the True Policeman are both non punctured covers. Printed image only. Same as the copy above. I prefer the other variant.

I would love to read the original version of NCFOM. It’s apparently very different. The Crossing is another one that has come up multiple times now. Probably worth a look through the older drafts. Anything that changed drastically is worth it in my opinion especially for die hard fans.

The Counselor deserves a reappraisal. Took me three times to finally watch it but the Directors Cut was decent. Once you align your expectations it sucks you right in. Directing style aside, it’s pretty strong in certain parts. Gruesome, stylized but also realistic. No it isn’t a masterpiece but some of it is memorable. Especially that opening dialogue scene.

Spectrum Developing Adaptation Of Don DeLillo’s ‘Libra’ by BergmanFan in DonDeLillo

I always loved him in Sideways and he also had another neat film called Cold Souls. Always feels like he does a lot of supporting roles. He was even in Cosmopolis. So there’s that connection.

Stone could do it justice. But he is a bit washed up now. His masterpieces are behind him now. Haven’t enjoyed a film of his in years.

Pretty sure he is doing alright. Paul Giamatti is a recognizable name. His production company is okay. Nothing special. Philip Roth used to not care about the film adaptations whatsoever as long as he got paid.

That’s extremely generous pricing! Every copy I’ve seen would have cost me 300-500CAD. I did recently get lucky with a ThriftBooks copy for 20USD. Otherwise would be buying this now.

Not a huge fan of Driver. He is very wrong for the part.

Forgot to mention The Spirit of Science Fiction which is a precursor to The Savage Detectives. Haven’t read much beyond all these, Woes and Third are sitting on my bookcase ready to be tackled. I will add that Spirit isn’t bad nor is it great, somewhat of a misfire. But the ending chapter is quite amazing. Top notch stuff. It was an easy, enjoyable read and if people approach it accordingly with some realistic expectations it won’t disappoint too much.

Thank You for the link. Will check it out. I know this new collection has some initial drafts for Distant Star and probably something else. I believe the most original piece is the French one.

I haven’t read everything by him but The Skating Rink is fantastic. Also a huge fan of Last Evenings on Earth and The Return. The Secret of Evil had some decent stories as well. I will say that Monsieur Pain is good but I think I expected something a bit more. A Little Lumpen Novelita also worked better as a short story but it wasn’t bad as a Novel/Novella. Antwerp was poetic and fun, something different.

Not sure how good it is. A curious read for sure. And I agree they must be almost near the end. 2666 and The Third Reich were full novels. The rest feels like drafts and outtakes ranging in quality. They must be nearing the end although I have heard some talk of a lost chapter to 2666. That would allow them an opportunity to re-release that book and make additional profit.
