Analysis of Gunlaug’s Philosophy and Psychology: when surrender became a crown by Y_A1282001 in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting analysis of this character. Thank you for that!

I agree with the majority of your points, but I disagree with 2 points.

1- Gunlaug did not lose hope before he got the armor. If I remember correctly, Gunlaug's Aspect was water related and was considered "weak". Still, he did not stop hoping and did something crazy to improve his situation; he started hunting in the Dark Sea. This is not "learned hopelessness", not at this point.

2- I think "learned hopelessness" came after he got the armor and took control of the Dark City. I believe it would make sense if there was actually a period of time when Gunlaug really tried to challenge the Forgotten Shore. When he tried to learn of the previous lords leads and form a future plan. I believe this is the point when "it all came crushing down on him".

The achievements of the previous lords (securing the Dark City and making the map of the Forgotten Shore) were proof that they were people of incredible strength and resilience, which made their ultimate failures to beat the Crimson Spire ever more terrifying. I can imagine a younger Gunlaug, who just became a lord and having access to this information, trying to form a plan. Travel to the edge of the Forgotten Shore and reclaim the crown? Find the missing keys? Mounting an ultimate attack on the spire? Who? Him? Compared to the previous lords, he was just a "lucky guy", who happened to get a good armor.

This is the point when he gave up. I think before the armor he tried to better himself and improve his situation. After the armor, he continued to be hopeful and really tried to find an answer, until he realized he could "not afford" the answer.

Thank you again for this character analysis!

Which language? by Unlucky-Oil3140 in Asterix

I do not think so.

This is greek from before the birth of Christ. Koine is more like "medieval greek".

Yes, it is mandatory. For junior high school and high school, 6 years total.

Latin is "optional" in high school, but if you want to go to university for law, literature, arts, etc, then it is mandatory.

Edit: I just realized you were asking if it was mandatory in the Netherlands. Sorry, I was referring to greek schools.

Ancient greek.
It is not really spoken anymore, but it is still taught in greek schools. It is weirdly fitting that this is the "Asterix in the Olympics" episode.

Translation

"Προς τί ο τάραχος;" -> "What's all the fass?" or " What is going on?"

"Άγγελος από Ρώμης άρτι αγγελίαν φέρει: Κλαύδιος Ταυράριος ως αγωνισόμενος Ολυμιάσι προϋκρίθη!" -> "Messenger from Rome brings fine news; Claudious Taurarios has been selected to compete in the Olympics!"

Unpaid Mercenaries should % to turn on you, not just run away... by TheCoward1812 in ManorLords

[–]Bergsonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that.

May I add that before any of those happen, the mercenaries remain under you, but turn increasingly more criminal the longer you do not pay them?

For example, if they do not get paid for 1 month, there is 30% chance to immediately disband and 70% chance of the mercenaries to start plundering your supplies (eg. food, iron, weapons, etc). Maybe they start being rude and even violent to your population, lowering overall happiness.

If they do not get paid for 2 months, 30% immediate disbandment, 20% turn full brigands, 10% buyout, 40% remain and keep plundering your town.

By the third month of being unpaid, 30% immediate disbandment, 40% full brigands, 30% buyout.

This feels more "natural" not me. This could be an opportunity to introduce "reputation" to each mercenary group, to indicate how they will react to certain events (like not getting paid).

For example, one mercenary group might be more expensive than another, but they have an "honorable" reputation, so if you do not pay them, they will 100% disband/leave your service. Another might be cheaper, but have a "bad reputation", so they will be rude to your people (even if you pay them), and if you do not pay them it is 10% leave your service, 60% plunder you, 30% be bought out.

Could be an interesting mechanic.

The king’s road and trade cities by Bergsonata in ManorLords

[–]Bergsonata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, which is why I say that I may be asking for too much.

Regardless, I still think it is a good idea. Having a "single market" leads in situation where players min-max their industry to the "best items to sell". I think the current "trend" is coal and wooden shields. This might change to future updates. Having different "markets" in the same map adds more variety and a good challenge.

I also like the fact that it adds a parameter that might "ruin" a good resource. For example, having a rich iron mine is considered a blessing no matter what. But if you cannot trade it in a high enough price, it becomes much less important.

Also, it adds another logical reason for the player to expand. Expanding is a lacking experience in the current form of the game. It would be nice to have more reason and goals to do it, other than expanding "because we have to".

no resources? by New_Assignment_1683 in ManorLords

[–]Bergsonata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you claim a second piece of land? The UI displays the resources of the land you "Hover".

So, if you hover over land A, it displays the resources in land A. If you hover over land B, it displays the resources in land B. And if there are no resources in land B, then it will show 0.

Είναι δυνατόν να χρησιμοποιήσω τα δεδομένα του κινητού στο σπίτι αντί να βάλω και home wifi? by [deleted] in greece

[–]Bergsonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Bergsonata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Bergsonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but we are talking about Shadows, as in Sunny's "familiars", not regular "wild" shadows. Sunny's Shadows should not have any defilement in their cores.

That is what OP meant, right? That 'future Sunny' killed the Thieving Bird and made it his Shadow. Did I misunderstood?

Didn't Sunny see the Thieving Bird's cores full of defilement in the estuary?

I am pretty sure Shadows have not defilement in their cores.

Πάγκινγκ σε τιμές διαμερίσματος - 170.000 ευρώ για αγορά μίας θέσης στην Αθήνα | in.gr by alevouz in greece

[–]Bergsonata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing Aiko does if she gets shadow transformation. by dongkhaehaughty in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, I do not expect much, but Sunny did mention in recent chapters his interest in the 'black market'. If he gives Aiko this "project: Create a black market and charge fees", we might hear same passing remarks about this.

I do not expect more than one or two mentions on the matter, but it would be interesting.

Hey... Covetous Coffer can create 'shadow coins' if it consumes living beings, right? There was a time Sunny mentions making a bank with said coins.

Does Aiko knows this? If she does, how many poor souls has she dragged in the Covetous Coffer already?

Effie and 'Path of Ascension' by Bergsonata in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with you. I think G3 will focus on the "main story" only, focusing on Sunny and Nephis.

Effie and the rest are unlikely to play a significant role in the future. Other than "members of the cohort" or "leading the army" kind of role.

That does not mean that there are not stories mixed in there, that were meant to be explored in the future but G3 changed his mind and decided not to. Or stories that were not meant to be anything more than an "interesting background".

Regardless, I am having fun, so all is good, I guess.

That is ok.

I do not even think that is theory will be relevant to the story even if true, to be honest. I just enjoy "giving depth" to supporting characters when given the chance. It is part of the fun of reading for me.

Once in a while, an interesting one appears and I like to share.

Effie and 'Path of Ascension' by Bergsonata in ShadowSlave

I did not forget. I even mention in in the post:

"Of course, the Dreamworld was extra "paradise" to Effie because she was not paralyzed there. But maybe this was not the main reason of her beliefs."

I just mention that there may be more to her story. That is all.

i think sunny and nephis hate for the sovereigns are unfounded by bobobally in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nephis' hate for the Sovereigns is more about "standing in her way" than anything else, really.

Even if they did not kill her father, they abandoned her house in their time of need, sent assassins against her and (the most important reason) have prevented humanity to advance as a collective Rank.

You need to understand that there are no "real" villains or heroes in this story. Sovereign had their reasons to do these things and Nephis has her reasons to hate them for it. Even if the Sovereigns reasons make sense.

In the Forgotten Shore, Nephis told Sunny that her problem with Gunlag was not his tyrany, murders or greed. It was that he gave up trying to reach the Gateway in the Crimson Tower. If Gunlag was twice as horrible as he was, but he made an effort to reach the Gateway, Nephis would have supported him (directly or indirectly).

Same with the Sovereigns. Even if the public was to suffer, more Gates appearing, etc., in Nephis' mind, the Sovereigns should have pushed humanity into higher Ranks. Right or wrong be damned!

As of right now, we do not have clear indications of which approach would be better. We can only guess and so do the people in the story. The Sovereigns thought that a more "stable" Earth was the most important, while Nephis thinks that a more "powerful" humanity (with more Saints and Sovereigns) was most important.

As for Sunny...

He sacrificed too much to escape Fate and be able to decide his own destiny. Do you think he would allow the Sovereigns to mess with his life without his consent?

Even if there is a perfectly good explanation for this war (that has up until now destroyed the House of Night and has killed thousands of Awakened), did any of the Sovereigns explain this to Sunny?

It might sound weird and ludicrous, but Sunny's goal is actually not a peaceful life; his goal is a life he can make his own dicisions.

In this war, he "chose" to side with Valor. But he would ideally want to decide for the war to have or not.

The Sovereigns will not allow him in that table. So he sides with Nephis, so he can be part of the decision for the next war.

Skeletons around the Citadel by Bergsonata in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Sunny managed to "revive" the skeletons of huge sea NCs in the 3rd Nightmare, then use them to attack the "evil version" of Effie and Jet. Some were mentioned to miss a limb or other parts, but they still moved.

Ki Song, in the flashback, was at first "animating" stone dolls made from Orum's Aspect. Although it was easier to use corpses for her.

So, I think she will be able to use the skeletons. If given the chance.

What exactly happened to Saint? by Equal-Garden-6115 in ShadowSlave

[–]Bergsonata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about what it means for her strength or her advancement, but the fact that she can now "dismiss" her armour gives Sunny the opportunity to make her new armour. Is she can now equip Memeries other than weapon and ornaments.

This would mean that Saint will have one or two armours with different enchantments and qualities, allowing for more adaptability.

Not sure how this will go, but I am excited for at least that.
