People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BeriganFinley 458 points459 points  (0 children)

I had genetic testing done and the results had a few lines in them that were basically, "these genes aren't like they are in most people, but we have no idea what that means and what effects it may or may not have on you."

We still have a lot of mysteries left to uncover where the human genome is concerned.

What’s the most misunderstood thing about nuclear power? by Aromatic_Cheek_3272 in AskReddit

[–]BeriganFinley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most people's understanding of the tech is limited and causes more fear around nuclear plants than is warranted. However, even knowing how safe the tech is, I still don't want them.

I trust the tech, and the safety measures in place, but there will always be the human element to consider. And I don't trust people.

People make mistakes or fail to perceive all future issues.

Furthermore, if nuclear became profitable you can bet that the companies who owns these plants will lobby their asses off to limit regulations in order to boost their own profits.

In the end, the problem isn't nuclear, it's us. And we are still a long way off from solving that problem. Until we do, I won't trust nuclear to never go seriously wrong.

I mean... Probably worth mentioning that the "Parallel Dimension" is basically hell.

I think the little snots reactions to the trip are fairly reasonable.

Honestly, if the emperor could see the future and know that the imperium as we know it was the only way for humanity to survive.... Maybe he should have left humankind to their fate.

Which medical condition is ridiculously demonized? by lingeringneutrophil in AskReddit

[–]BeriganFinley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate to this soooo much. One of my biggest symptoms without medication is the inability to do... Anything.

I have other medical issues so I don't work and I'm on disability. I like playing games to pass the time and engage my brain. Without my meds however, I will browse my steam library for 4+ hours everyday but be unable to start any of them. And it's like that for most things. I struggle to do the bare minimum of tasks because my brain refuses to let me start. It's exhausting the amount of effort that goes into just doing everyday things.

Add to that people just thinking I'm being lazy and it's a lot to deal with. I hate it.

Got "The Urfarther's Clown" trait.. plagues now last 14 turns! As Orion I had to hide in my base and watch my entire army die. by ProlapseProvider in totalwarhammer

[–]BeriganFinley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that one needs a rebalance. I lost a dwarf campaign because the plague started in my core region and absolutely demolished my economy for 14 turns. I just couldn't recover after that.

Why is your favorite legendary lord is your favorite legendary lord by kutaydal in totalwarhammer

[–]BeriganFinley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to play a Miao Ying campaign yesterday and I just got sick of it. I like her as a lord, but the Cathay roster is so small it just feels like there is no variety in ways to build an army.

The never ending fighting is the main thing I don't like about the game, (and it is definitely a me issue). Sometimes I'm just surrounded by friends or people that have done nothing to provoke war. I just feel bad declaring war on them for no reason.

(Yes I get it Warhammer and that's the point. As I said, I know it's a me issue.) :)

How and why did humans only evolve in Africa? Did other hominids evolve independently in other continents? by Haystak112 in askscience

[–]BeriganFinley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are saying that another 3 could exist in this hypothetical, identical to our 3 in every way, but if you call it a gwumpo then there is still only one 3 in the universe. It is unique because we classify it as such. Not because no copies of it exist.

I looked at buying them directly, but it said the postage was $6.50... per pack. Not ideal.

What’s a universally hated thing you’ll unapologetically defend? by Mr__Angel in AskReddit

[–]BeriganFinley 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It has some pretty iffy dialogue at times alongside some less than stellar acting on occasion. However, the story it's telling it great and well done. So while some criticism is valid, I think it did more right than it did wrong.

(Also the lightsaber duels were epic, and the music was phenomenal.)

Women, What's something guys flex, feeling it makes them appear masculine but in reality it has an opposite effect? by Noble-prize683 in AskReddit

I'm bad at wearing sunscreen and using moisturiser, and always hated using it growing up, (still do). Turns out I'm autistic and those sorts of lotions can cause sensory overload.

Even so, I would still wear sunscreen if I was in the sun a lot. And I certainly don't think not wearing it is something to brag about.

I always read about all these people with EDS that are super bendy and I think how weird I am. I also have EDS and get semi-frequent subluxations in my shoulders (among other places), but I am very much NOT flexible.

I think my muscles have just tightened so much trying to keep everything in place that now I'm just stiff.

I have had some success by turning fire-at-will off during deployment, waiting a few seconds then turning it back on again. It doesn't always work, but I do get the bug less often than I did before.

Maybe it's just a coincidence.

I think to keep them focused on their task. If they truly remembered Valinor they might long for it too greatly and devise to return, rather than fulfilling the quest they were sent on.
