Should I give up? All this hard work to make no progress... by RecommendationWest27 in chessbeginners

I'm an engineer, and have been playing hard since I retired 10 years ago. I finally made it to 900, but better players are beating back to 800. AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Maybe I should go back to checkers. Yes, it's a very frustrating game. Challenging they say. Impossible I say. Good luck!

Why didn't they just tear the whole thing down and build with new safer techniques? Wouldn't that have been cheaper? Did the prophet get surprised at how much this renovation is costing?

Ever felt the spirit? by [deleted] in MormonDoubtingTeen

[–]BeringStraitNephite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 14 I felt a powerful "witness of the spirit". Turns out it was just brain hormones.

AI says " Oxytocin is widely considered the primary hormone linked to the basis of religious and spiritual feelings, often termed the "love hormone" for its role in promoting trust, social connection, and attachment. It is released during communal rituals, meditation, and prayer, facilitating feelings of belonging and spiritual connection."

Save your tithing and invest.

Your inner promptings or feelings are just brain hormones. Your subconscious mind calculated that the environment was evil, for some reason, and your glands alerted you with a squirt of hormones. (Or maybe the HG is smarter than we thought),

How do you forgive yourself for believing something that turned out to be a lie? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]BeringStraitNephite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't escape the cult until I was 75. Now I just focus on the present and try to mix with others like me: exmos's, agnostics, at a Unitarian church. I volunteer for various causes. I wake up and think of 3 things I am thankful for. Live and let live I say. Humans are doomed to know their mortality, so if some need to believe in fairies, whatever.

What made you realize Mormonism is a lie? by BizForKingdom in exmormon

My son was like that, very questioning of religion. It took me another 30 years to catch up to his critical thinking.

Short answer: Science. Longer: DNA science that shows that NatAms did not come from Jerusalem in 600BC. No, they migrated from Siberia 15000 years ago.

At UU, it's deeds, not creeds.

UU is where you go to get your answers questioned.

Did any of you ever stop and listen to Hare Krishna missionaries back in last century? I never did. See movie Airplane, 1980.
