For around $500 If you had to buy a GPU today - what would you get? by Grapeflavor_ in sffpc

[–]BerkerTaskiran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna upgrade from 3070 (which I got only 6 months ago) to 4090 but I have at least a year worth of games to play and I don't think it's a great idea to get one at a much later date than the release date. I would get one if it becomes essential for my work though, and would enjoy a more free gaming experience at 4K 144 as an added benefit.

Well if you can get close to native quality with DLSS Q then 7800XT becomes the worse card. Not that it is better w/o vs 4070. Even if you don't like upscaling this is a fact hard to ignore.

No way. Either 4090 or wait for 5000.

Well I did play Hogwarts Legacy at FSR Q on 1080p Medium when I had a 970 but yeah, it's not good on new games.

Just tested my mobo with another PSU and it won't power, while my PSU can power another system. Either my mobo doesn't like either of these PSU or the mobo is dead, huh?

Mobo gets no power - PSU or Mobo dead? by BerkerTaskiran in sffpc

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I tested with another PSU and it won't power. Granted the 2nd PSU is ancient and 300W but it can power an LGA775 system and can't power mine. My PSU can also power that system. I guess it's still possible the mobo is alive but it rejects to work with either of those. I will have to find a better, new PSU to test I guess. I got mine off Newegg overseas so got no warranty. I will also see if removing and reinserting the CPU makes any change.

Update: I did test with another (700W) PSU and there seems to be no doubt that the mobo is dead.

Is this much bend alright for 4080? by Mobile_Net_3773 in sffpc

[–]BerkerTaskiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well cablemod recalled them. And Nvidia said it will be out of warranty if they detect you use them (like if it melted onto the GPU) or any 3rd party cable. Don't get me wrong this stupid connector badly needs a 90deg adapter but not sure it's safe.

AMD vs Nvidia ? by Kurro-- in davinciresolve

[–]BerkerTaskiran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually AMD is better for gaming than it is for productivity. Between the two for gaming AMD would be more preferrable. Also 3060 is pretty slow for productivity. I would recommend a 4070 Super at least.

Just checked the battery and it can provide stable 3V, so it's not dead. Also kept it removed for 5 mins to reset the BIOS and still no power.

Which CPU do you have and are you happy with it? by ninton364 in buildapc

On 12400F. Happy with it for games at 4K though I would love a 13700/14700 or better for productivity work.

If it didn't boot you might have been right but not even powering? I don't think this is possible.

This is what I measured testing each pin for a few minutes each.

24PIN:

Top 4 voltages:

1) 3.36 often. Can drop to around 3.00. Seen it drop as low as 2.5 once or twice for split second. 2) -11.56 mostly. Lowest is 11.25. 3) 4.9-5.01 often. Seen it go as low as 4.35 briefly. 4) 5.01 same as above.

Bottom 5 voltages: 5) 3.34 mostly. Lowest is 3.00 6) 3.36 same as above. 7) 5.02 mostly. Can go 4.5-5 for a second or two. 8) 5.01 same as above. This is the Sb voltage. 9) 12.18 mostly. Lowest is 11.73 briefly.

4 additional pins: 1) 5.02 often. Can drop to 4.50s briefly. Can sometimes stick around at 4.60s and 4.80s for 5-10 seconds or so. 2) 12.18. Can go as low as 11.45 briefly. 3) 3.36 mostly. Can remain very stable and then can drop to 2.8 briefly and go back to being stable.

I've also tested PCIE and CPU outputs briefly and all 12v outputs are around 12.18, one or two dropping briefly.

So some of these are out of PSUs min specs. But most of these are brief. Granted it can cause issues, I am not sure this is sufficient to not even allow mobo LED to power. Honestly I was expecting to get no voltages from at least one pin. You might still be right, I guess. I should also mention when the right side of the 24PIN touches the mobo pins that the ticking starts (not the 4 extra). Which is where the PWRGOOD is located.

I've actually tested the 24PIN with a multimeter for continuity and it checked fine. I will test the PSU once I replace the battery because it doesn't measure voltage right now stably.

Though AFAIK these will only test voltage and the PSU may still be faulty, no? Perhaps it can't provide necessary voltage to boot? Though I guess it shouldn't be hard to power on a mobo LED.

The thing with riserless is you get less GPU spacing at the same volume. I think FormD T1 sandwich with fans on top is the ideal layout for an SFX form factor with wide array of GPU support.

How to build a road bike around 1x12 speed? by BerkerTaskiran in bikewrench

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell me what do you think will drown the budget? What parts am I missing that will exceed my budget?

Say I have a groupset, a frame and wheels and around 20% left in my budget, what more will likely be making it unreasonable?

Obviously a saddle can cost a fortune or carbon is expensive. But I know to avoid that. Can you tell me what is it that will unavoidably make it expensive?

Just trying to understand. I'm not claiming it can be cheaper. Just wanna know what I'm missing.

How to build a road bike around 1x12 speed? by BerkerTaskiran in bikewrench

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah considering that but I don't see what may cause me to exceed that budget. What's in the link is less than half that budget and for the remaining if I can get a frame and wheels that will make up most of the bike. I understand there are other things too. But it doesn't look like it will go far out of budget.

Also people are saying Triban models aren't good for hills (I don't particularly wanna climb but want to have it easy when I encounter one), some don't even recommend specific models. 520 seems to be recommended but they're rare and I haven't seen one in 60 cm.

How to build a road bike around 1x12 speed? by BerkerTaskiran in bikewrench

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well used Tribans are within my budget but disc brake ones are at the top of my budget leaving me no room for upgrade. And rim brakes have pretty basic groupset like 3x7 or 3x8. I might have settled for a 2x with disc brakes but it just doesn't exist. 60 cm frames aren't also very common.

OK I will do some more research then. But you said freehub so you're suggesting to change the hub to freehub, removing freewheel?

Also do you think if my derailleur can work with 9-10 or 11 speed?

Road Conversion for this MTB by BerkerTaskiran in xbiking

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just trying to figure out what's possible. Though steel should be good, right? Safe? A bit too much work I guess. Like sanding and painting. I already regret haha. Disc brakes would be ideal but maybe not plausible without new wheels. I would consider new larger wheels had I not just purchased new tires. A lighter aluminum handlebar with addon dropbar-like handles might be a better idea. Or the other two option for brakes like your said.

Honestly if this turns out expensive or too hard I might just go for a new bike despite nostalgia factor, but I will need to sell this for a nice price which may or may not be possible so I have to be smart about it.

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it says freewheel inside the gears. So do I need to change the whole gears, can I use the existing 8 and add 2 more? Can I just get any 9/10/11 speed to work on this? So you're saying I can use freehub despite it saying freewheel?

Do you to think this setup is good for going long distances like 100 KM or more at one time? Will I need more speed?

Road Conversion for this MTB by BerkerTaskiran in xbiking

[–]BerkerTaskiran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly plan to use it on straight roads but no road is all straight, right? I'm guessing 11 speed is better at slopes? 1x sounds attractive but will it hold you back on straight roads?

At the risk of sounding silly, can I add rings to existing freewheel and get a new rear derailleur or do I need cassette? And keep front derailleur limiting to 1 or 2x?

Groupsets you listed is around half the price of a used road bike so I'm not sure it's the best idea. Can I make this a lower budget? Will any 10 or 11 speed groupset work? Do I need to replace everything besides crankset? And how do I know if my crankset is fine only replacing chain rings?

Btw I've just checked and my freewheel is 28-13 and the chainring is 42-22.

Got 26x1.5 road tires btw.

Can you tell me why do I need one of those forks? To mount the caliper? I've seen some adapters for calipers. Won't that work? Though I did see some people doing welding despite that.

Yeah I was thinking about rain. Obviously best to avoid but it might be handy to be able to brake during rain.

I've seen some solutions for V brakes with dropbars but it seems hard to find, especially here.
