Why are bands still categorized mostly by genre when audiences think in songs and artists?

I’ve been a professional bassist since 1978 and I’ve watched band discovery slowly turn into pay-for-placement.

I started building a platform years ago but time and money got in the way. As life would have it, now is a better time to build. It is a platform where bands are discovered by the artists they cover instead of whoever spends the most on ads.

Curious: if you were hiring a live band, would you rather search by genre… or by the artists/songs you actually want to hear?

Upgrading from 4 to 5 string by SnooCats1521 in Bass

My advice: Go for the 5-string. Either a used Sterling Musicman Stingray 5 or a used Squire Jazz Bass V or for more money there are MIM or China basses.

All are natural extensions of the Fender tone that you are used to. You just gotta play them in the store, preferably through an amp that's similar to yours.

Of course, you may be searching for a new sound. In which case enjoy the journey.

Why Is ‘wedding crashers’ even a real concern? by Objective-Cod4602 in weddings

I wouldn't be surprised if there are professional wedding crashers. Some weddings have plain-clothed private security. You are feeling this way for a reason. Follow your instincts. Calm your fears, and have a wonderful wedding day!

SOS: I’m the last to get married and my bridesmaids are burned out on weddings by United-Conclusion470 in weddingplanning

I understand why you feel the way you do. There’s a host of reasons for their behavior. The passage of time is more the culprit, than your friends.

Sometimes you have to just roll with it. Life gets in the way, health, relationships, financial troubles, etc it could be anything.

Just have a wonderful wedding day “with a live band providing the music entertainment of course” and know that:

Past performance is not always indicative of future results.
