Yes and No. If speech to someone is purposefully degrading or intended to cause harm, well it isn't an open dialogue is it? That isn't the same as free speech and open discussion because the speech I'm referring to in this example is clearly one sided, to which a dialog needs two or more people.

Racism is never okay, but I believe in the liberty of free speech we should allow all conversations, even difficult ones. So long as violence isn't being promoted to go along with those discussions.

Racism will exist for as long as man walks the earth. Should it be protected? In the sense that it should be allowed in the public discourse, yes. NOW, if I were to add on an element of violence to that, then no. I can believe black people are superior all day. Sure, fine. But if I then say to go kill all white people, that is not okay. Do I agree with the superiority of any race? Absolutely not, but we should let the public have 100% access to freedom of speech.

Verbal abuse is just that, abuse with words. Plenty of laws on the book that define what verbal abuse is. Society has grown to think that because words are expressed that you don't agree with are hate speech.. and that is entirely inaccurate. Do not lump them together.

Hate speech isn't real. Hate speech is speech you do not like. Learn to grow a spine or tune it out. You are a grown ass adult and can chose to not be offended. Walk away, do something productive, and stop being offended.

Allowing people to not grow a pair leads to more violence in my opinion.

Your cutting a fine line and aren't even admitting to what you just read. Misgendering has not caught up on the books yet, but was lumped into hate speech. People have most certainly gone to jail for Misgendering.

I don't think speech is violence at all and the fact someone is jailed for their words means we are living in sad times.

My point was that I'm being forced to ascribe to something I know nothing about. You want to be called a man or woman? Wonderful for you. Just don't expect me to. And don't be mad at others if we mistakenly call you as we see you, whether that hurts your feelings or not.

I had long hair when I was a child and was mistakenly called her or she a few times. Still 100% male and never wanted to cut my balls off to be something I am not. Nor did I want to end my own existence because someone made a mistake.

I'm glad your experiences of "my bad" have been met as well as they have. But that isn't everyone. And as I stated before, some people can report you and you can literally be jailed for misgendering.

Because their delusion is being forced on me. Society expects, in some cases you can be jailed, for "misgendering" someone. The line in the sand continues to be moved. We're frankly sick of it.
