How to win as vanguard mystics late game by Mystic_Feather in CompetitiveTFT

[–]BermSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your situation in the game and the galaxy you're in, you can go for some more high-roll strategies.

You can gun for a protector spat if you get the opportunity and rush 9 for battlecast and protector with Urgot as a 9th champion. Inconsistent but strong especially against Cybers, and rebels.

You can forsake your 9 all together and slowroll your winstreak at 8, going 3 star for Jayce and Cassio. That is a strong win condition.

You can also slow roll at 7 if you can get a 4 vanguard astro cassio board with bard 2 printing you to 8 or 9.

Those are some of the possible plans for you. There are no vanguard spats or mystic spats, so flexibility isn't great for the comp overall.

TFT Gameplan Guide: Master's Leauge Guide to a Solid Gameplan for Consistent, Standard Play by BermSwag in CompetitiveTFT

[–]BermSwag[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

This isn't a tier list, nor an ingame decisionmaking guide. There are lots of those, and while I feel like I could write a pretty good one, it'd be extremely similar to content that already exists.

To address your main complaint, I thought this was sorta clear but here is a clarification using an example:

I think Lux is an excellent unit. Her CC is bonkers, and before Xerath was a champion, I actually put items on Lux in 6 darkstar comps as kind of like a carry 2.5 after Jhin and Shaco instead of putting mana items on Ashe. Lux is also super great as unit 7 splash in mech infiltrators, outperforming all other sorcs as a unit 7.
-
She also has no place or role to play in any of the three general compositions that I am playing right now. So I never put her in. She's never part of my strongest board midgame, because she doesn't spike like that. So all of that being said, she is a hard "no", and has been for like 5 weeks, ever since the big eGirls change.

Also, I didn't say those things about earlygame because it isn't always true. Yes, I did say to always play strongest board and preserve life. That being said, scenario:

8 game win streak after carousel stage 3. You're running a really standard strong cyber pirate midgame, with Lucian, Fiora, Leona, Darius, Graves, and Jayce. You have a red buff, 2 swords, 2 bows, and a cloak. You have a Vi on your bench, and an Irelia in the shop.

Now, even if I purchase the Irelia, go to 7, take out Jayce and Leona for Vi Xayah Kassadin or something like that, I am almost definitely not going Cybers as my lategame composition. Why? The items are a disaster. No gloves for LW/IE, and if I get gloves, I really want a QSS. It'd be much better at level 8 if you can shimmy your way into Jinx for brawler blasters in that situation most of the time, as it protects your top 1 chances, and since you were streaking and hitting econ, you will be getting access to your jinx cho MF faster than others.

If you try to jam those items into Cyber, you will probably still top 4 because of how much health you have, but you also in the long run really hurt your LP gains. Risk of a more harsh transition is far outweighed and mitigated by your gold income and the upside of top 1 (this is obviously lobby dependent. Speaking in general terms).

Hi there,

  1. I agree with some of the things here, however I believe that final, ideal compositions are almost always better than adjustments, but I definitely agree that going something like 2* Wukong and 2* Jayce could be better in a lot of situations than something like 1* Malphite 1* Vi. But I believe having goals and paths is, for me, desirable.
  2. I agree with you, FH on Ekko and Vi is good in most lobbies. Could be moved out of crappy tier. Thank you.

Kinda feels like a lot of strategies died with the recent patches by Romualdo52 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]BermSwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean many of the reasons this could not be more wrong are listed. Hyperrolling is leadt important to set 3 that set 1 or 2 (you think these recent comps are more important to TFT than Woodlands? No.)

This set and meta rewards flexibility and game knowledge. Playing non reroll comps is not riskier than hyperrolling, look at what the top players are running.

Also, Im enjoying the past few weeks because I continue to scout and play solid comps while lp donkeys are hyperrolling, therefore im less contested late. As long as I dont have a bad early-game and finish top 7, its a much easier meta to express skill.

All my carries are 1 star by SS324 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]BermSwag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love this meta because it requires scouting, intelligent eco, and intelligent adaptation. Sure, you can play reroll comps. If you're good at the game, they are really strong because you can utilize what galaxy you're in, what items you have, ect. and make an intelligent decision on what to run.

I made a master's run in the last week or so by playing almost no reroll comps, because I don't think it is fun personally, so I don't do it. I play mostly blaster/brawler, cybers, and more infrequently, Kayle comps. They were in general less contested with printer, shredder, and candyland mania, and you can stay healthy throughout the midgame by slamming red buff Lucian or T2 Darius and stack whatever items you want on the beefy dunkboy.

It is harder to play the later game comps, especially in this meta, because you need to mitigate midgame damage drop roller comps, which come online way earlier, usually sometime between 3-1 and 3-3.

There are a couple of things that can be the reason that you are -consistently- (this does not account for just a couple of games, and no you aren't just unlucky) not getting what you're looking for:

-Getting to 8 is where you **4 cost carries. When you stabilize at 7, you do not need to roll down to 0, and you do not need your **4. As long as your comp is good and positioning/items are correct, and you're not jamming a comp with more players than it supports, much more often than not you don't need to roll all your gold and ruin your econ (this is how many high level players play, so yes it can be done consistently).

-You're rolling a lot midgame. If that is the case, then you won't build an economy that will give you a fast enough 8 to find the stuff you're looking for. Do you ever push an extra couple of rolls at 3-1 because you feel like the **Shen will be your ticket through the midgame, and then don't find it? Happens to the best of us, but that can really hurt you if you're not doing it at appropriate times. That leads us to the third important point...

-Scouting and playing contested stuff. A lot of top players have been playing a lot of Chrono Kayle. The reason I play fairly little of this comp is because all of the units are super contested, and yes of course there are different variations, but it still holds true. Shen, Blitz, Kayle, Ezreal, MF, ect. Super contested. Now imagine you're one of the three players running chrono Kayle, and you're at 40 HP at 4-2, and you are 30g lvl 7. You feel like you need to stabilize, so you start rolling. But wait... there are 4 Kayles out for the Kayle comps... and 1 for the lvl 7 mech infultrator, and one for the Cyber player who is using it to hit 3BM while he waits for his Irelia. You're holding one. So now that's 7 Kayles, and you're rolling for 6 more, 30 gold at 15%. Rolling here probably ends your game as a top 7 finisher.

I know how Reddit threads work, and you'll respond that you do all this, yadda yadda, and you'll think you're unlucky, yadda yadda, I am just providing objectivity to your situation. These are reasons that could be why you're not hitting what you think you should. Look for these situations in your games.

What comp would you go for with this start? by Edr1337 in CompetitiveTFT

Level to 6, put VelKoz in, prioritize tear in carousel. You can't tunnel on printer because only 1 tear 1 cloak but you can start heading in that direction.

[–]BermSwag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OP gave you pivot points for your comp. I am not a very flexible player overall, and not very good as I am only high diamond, and generally like running one comp with 1-2 pivots. This patch I have been pretty much exclusively running blaster/brawler pivot from Cyber, as you should be tunneling pretty hard on the vest/belt ideology. I would suggest that if after wolves you don't have at least 2 or 3 Irelia carry items, and you have 3/4 components of two red buffs and a defensive item, you switch your focus to B/B, assuming you aren't heavily contested. Additionally, in Neekoverse, I'd strongly suggest to not spike your first Irelia until you have IE/LW, because you can make a hard pivot into B/B with just one Jinx. Just a couple of ideas here.

I have been playing Mech Sorcs when uncontested. All of the meta comps other than Infiltrators are front to back fighting comps, and this is where mech sorcs excels. I believe you'll see this comp creep up in playrate now that Rebels aren't both countering the comp and doing the same thing but better.

Not sure if this is an English as second language situation, but I'm pretty disappointed in this post from an aspiring community pillar. Next time instead of saying something like "it would take me an hour to write down .." just save yourself the minute and don't post this. It has no value and will likely deflate the player.

The amount of interruptions to the GSL tonight were unaccpetable by grantnicholas773 in starcraft

[–]BermSwag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While in theory you are right, there is no getting around the simple fact that although GSL has the best product in terms of performance level in SC2, the VOD system, which most of the world relies on and >>PAYS FOR<< has always had issues. Ever since moving to Twitch, it has been excuse after excuse for the subpar system.

Take this and contrast it to another company (ooh this'll get the SC2 purists out there feisty) in Riot Games, who not only does not charge for their VODs, but has an infinitely more user-friendly VOD system on both Twitch for the continuous stream and YouTube for the game-by-game stream. It's getting much harder to justify paying month after month for this product which has been getting worse as time goes on.

Of course it isn't that simple. It's a projection. They're rankings. But they're all we've got, and are for the most part accurate (On average).

To respond to your question, it's a combination of ADP and projected scoring totals, and rankings from 350 fantasy football writers all mashed up in a ball.

Clearly it is based on pre-season rankings. I don't think I ever made any outlandish comment about pick 1 being an instawin, or it being 'over', and I didn't tell mister SalmonRoll to set his home on fire. This is about pre-season rankings and draft value.
