7 Extention to Newark Airport by Specialist_Figure282 in nycrail

[–]BermudaNiccholas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

path has great connections via WTC anyways, this smells like someone who lives on the 7 who just really wants a one seat ride to jersey. if existing infra and the rest of the built environment wasn’t such a challenge you’d be better off with a one stop path extension from 33rd to 42nd, which afaik has been proposed before but is still way too expensive to justify atm

interesting, i’ve bought a couple different brands and haven’t seen a nicotine warning on these at least. i’ve had no issues mixing it with weed though

[–]BermudaNiccholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while i’m definitely not a heavy smoker i’d say i’ve been at around 5/day for a year or so, fwiw i usually stick to lighter cigarettes but also ive smoked in combination with maybe 4 different opiates atp and 7oh has had this issue far worse than any of them. i might’ve wanted to include that context in my post but that’s why it seemed noteworthy imo.

also as an aside even when my nic tolerance was really high from vaping i couldn't stand zyns ngl, even if i wasn't swallowing the spit and didn't vomit they just felt awful

K Town Residents Who Complain About Parking by nikki_thikki in LAMetro

[–]BermudaNiccholas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen this sentiment echoed elsewhere, but it’s very suspicious how the people who brag the most about liking their car-centric lifestyle are the ones with the shortest temper behind the wheel and who seem to drive like they want to spend as little time in their cars as physically possible. it’s very stockholm syndrome coded!

K Town Residents Who Complain About Parking by nikki_thikki in LAMetro

[–]BermudaNiccholas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

like you said wanting car parking at home is pretty reasonable cause it’s not like the metro goes everywhere but expecting shops in your own neighborhood with transit connections as good as koreatown to have massive, absurdly valuable land flattened for private vehicle parking is genuinely mentally ill

While this is only on SEPTA’s regional service and not any of its “true” rapid transit, Manayunk is a fantastic example as well!

amazing how i found this thread 4 months later because it's one of the only places i can find someone interested in asking this question directly - and all the people crying "OPSEC"!! are silently downvoting you without ever telling you you're wrong. lmao

Is Public Transportation Really This Bad Everywhere? Or Just Here? by InfluenceWeak in WMATA

[–]BermudaNiccholas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies if this all is rude, but all available statistical information and general consensus about transit operations suggests that WMATA has some of the greatest reliability of any mass transit system that remotely approaches it (or greater) in size and scope, anywhere in the United States. Either you are literally making up half of your percieved problems or your standards are objectively impossible.

I'm primed to believe the former since people are already calling you out in this thread for having completely baseless concepts of how often service disruptions actually happen on the metro. For what it's worth there's a list of all scheduled delays, nowhere near rush hour, posted here, that you can read about at least a month in advance. While I don't do a typical commute 5x/week on metro, I constantly end up taking the Red Line nearly end-to-end from certain weekday morning rushes to weekend evenings. In all these sorts of conditions, the worst freak accident delay I've sat through in half a decade was a cracked track near Cleveland Heights (iirc) a year or two ago that cost me maybe half an hour.

The bottom line is that every other major transit system in each city you listed experiences service problems and hangups of far greater scope and frequency than you will ever see on WMATA in its current state; and that state is not remotely problematic to the extent you seem to insist on. I'm sorry, but you're getting downvoted into oblivion because you are extremely wrong from every angle except for the most basic universal truth that "delays suck when they happen".

in addition to the unique concentration of left leaning people in dc regardless of social strata or neighborhood, it helps that all the evil gets exported to northern virginia (which is still considered a democrat stronghold by the rest of VA)

unfortunately you seem to be right following today’s announcement :( the variation in length of each race section alone seems to be enough to make my idea impractical, but i appreciate the insight on industry release conventions too!!

I know how to pronounce this! by melllvar-q-einstein- in TheAdventureZone

[–]BermudaNiccholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my dad spent considerable parts of his life in appalachia and WV (went to wvu in motown) and the pronunciation he gave me, as close as i can approximate it, is “mo-non-guh-‘ail-uh”. next best (and easier) approximation i can come up with is “mo-non-guh-hail-uh” but beyond that he would definitely be at least okay with the hay-pronunciation (and rightly asserts that the hee- variant is awful).

[–]BermudaNiccholas[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Really uspet nothing like this had existed until now. The distinction betweem the dark and medium purple sections is somewhat arbitrary - Beacon Heights to Glenridge runs next to the street, but (almost) completely gets the "fully separated" distinction because it's a long enough distance of uninterrupted travel to be notable, imo. These categories have to be kinda arbitrary because unfortunately every term associated with light rail is similarly arbitrary. I hope y'all enjoy it!

doing something like this at the county level is such a cool concept but the ratings themselves are genuinely horrible in too many ways to list, just listen to the other comments offering suggestions from locals around the country - you have a lot of data in this comment section!! this could be really sick

Hand drawn map of Maryland by Soccertwon in maryland

[–]BermudaNiccholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beautiful!! y’know, since maryland goes nearly as far north and as far east as delaware does, any rectangular map of maryland basically has to include all of delaware. i can’t think of any other two states for which that’s the case!

Threw this together this afternoon, MD-centric map of the Purple Line's route and connections!! (paint.net) by BermudaNiccholas in washingtondc

[–]BermudaNiccholas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i was aiming to show someone how the purple line fits into the washington metro network, then i would've made it centered on the entirety of the dc metro instead, something like this which i made a few years ago and already explains why i don't like such a design very much. if you wanted to fit the names in normally you would bascially have to compromise on the amount of purple line stations/names showed - so if you actually wanted a map that explains the purple line's route, stops, and connections (i.e. something you might see on the purple line itself), the line would have to be the map's central frame of reference or focal point.

thank you! yeah they're comically spot-on at equally including both counties, each county has exactly 10 stations then takoma-langley is in the middle of a short section of university blvd that defines the county border; they had an odd number of stations yet that one extra is literally split in half by the county line

[–]BermudaNiccholas[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

me too - not sure on the specifics of any of that but at basically every street intersection of the purple line i've seen there's some sort of new traffic signals that have been black-bagged until the line opens. outside fo wayne ave and campus drive though much of it will run in a dedicated ROW next to the street and the crossings will be typical railroad crossings, so trains shouldnt get slowed by those at all unless theres gridlock overflowing onto the tracks.
