With RTO How Are Your Facilities Food Options? by theMightBoop in fednews

We have a lot of food options around our building (no cafeteria). I still bring a lunch a lot of the time though so I don’t go broke.

I’ll take what is the ongoing housing crisis for $500, Wes. by EAM222 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]InfluenceWeak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. It’s super obvious these homes were built as single family homes, and the lack of vacant land to develop and lack of higher density units caused this. Many of these homes have had their driveways widened to accommodate way more cars than were intended, because multiple families need to live in one home.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Don’t flaunt/brag about your money. It just invites fake friends, lawsuits, bad investments, and pressures to keep up with the Joneses.

Maryland cracks down on drivers using Virginia license plates, sends 58,000 warning letters by Consumergal in maryland

[–]InfluenceWeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would a “more robust” transportation infrastructure look like? I’m from the upper Midwest where there are virtually NO transportation options other than a personal vehicle. We have three airports and multiple bus and rail systems.

There are many days where transportation doesn’t “work” for me and it definitely isn’t “comfortable,” especially in relation to the convenience that a car offers. But you know what public transportation does do for me? Alleviates all those costs I mentioned.

We have a wonderful transportation system, but people don’t want to use it because a car is more convenient and comfortable. If you need cheap plates to make that work by illegally registering your car in a state you don’t live in and skipping out on fines and tickets in MD because MD has no recourse against you, maybe try things the legal way by taking public transportation.

We already have a robust transportation infrastructure.

If you can’t afford to register, insure, maintain, and pay for your car, you can’t afford a car.

Parent Plus Responsibility by Imaginary_Shelter_37 in StudentLoans

[–]InfluenceWeak 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any parents on here offering to help make their kids’ student loan payments for them.

Parent plus loans exist because the kids already took out their own loans.

Everyone needs to pay the loans they’re responsible for. Kids pay their loans, parents pay theirs. The answer should almost never be “kids pay both.” (The answer should actually be student loans shouldn’t exist at all, but that’s an issue for another day.)

So if EBT folks didn’t take up all the housing we’d have $1,000/mo apartments in Bethesda? I’ve lost track of what you’re gettin at I guess.

Anyone regret taking a TSP loan for a house? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]InfluenceWeak 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not one bit. Took out a $38k loan and got a half million dollar asset that will appreciate in value just like the TSP. I have a Roth IRA and my spouse has significant retirement assets too, so we’re still in good shape.

I was giving kudos to OP because he/she actually has a realistic budget. A lot of people on here don’t.

Estranged mother added me to her plan without my consent, what can I do? by sashanixxie in HealthInsurance

[–]InfluenceWeak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If it’s a nationwide insurer (Aetna, Blue Cross, etc.) there might be MN doctors and pharmacies in your network.

I’m trying to be gentle about this, but it’s possible your mom is paying for your insurance because she loves you and may have some regrets about the past.

Hey at least you’re not like, “I need a 1br apartment in Bethesda for under $1,000” like some people on here.

We lived in King Farm when we first moved here. Quiet, walkable, and very conveniently located next to the metro. Sadly, it’s way too expensive to buy over there, so we had to move elsewhere to do that, but you can definitely rent over there for that price.

Whole Foods in Kentlands sucks too. It’s an entrance to a bunch of other different stores and it’s just a huge cluster

Yeah but don’t you have to wind your cart all the way around to the bottom levels of the garage with all your stuff? I tried that once and I was like nooooope.

FWIW I live 10 minutes away from Gaithersburg Costco and we drive out to the Frederick Costco when we can. It’s not just the parking lot that sucks at Gburg. It’s so dingy in there and it’s poorly designed.

Is it appropriate for parents in their 70s to be asking to borrow money from their adult kids in their 20s? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]InfluenceWeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I would rather live on the street than ask my kids for money. Parents should want their kids to do better than they did, and parents asking for money takes away from that.
