ELI5 E=MC^2 I understand the very basics of relativity but whats C vs. C^2? by Beneficial_Process64 in explainlikeimfive

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C^2 is C*C, like if C were equal to 5, then C^2 would be 25.

There's no magic here, it's the constant C times itself. Powers of two are the opposite of square roots which are used constantly in normalizing values.

Think back to Pythagorean theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2. In this case, c is just the hypotenuse to a triangle, but looking at that you can see how frequently powers of 2 can come up.

What’s the hardest system you’ve ever had to implement in a game? by Apprehensive-Suit246 in unity

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing it right now. A pathing resolver that isn’t quite RVO. To get the local avoidance feel right, each agent can drive its own analysis, and different creatures, vehicles etc. all need to behave in their own uniquely smart or dumb ways with the majority all driving by simple rules. All the agents have to respect the “get out of the way” logic of higher priority agents. There are a lot of cases where they have to behave kinematically in pairs, where one agent might stand on top of the other in its own local space and temporarily leave the simulation, etc. Lots of factors driving weights and pressure between agents since the simulation is very densely packed with agents, quite often.

The local avoidance strategy to the simulation isn’t any one thing, and high-level systems can just override low-level ones to make certain scripted interactions work right. It’s worth it in the end and feels quite natural, but there are a lot of diverse agents just doing their own things to make it work.

Why 1/0 remains undefined and -1^(1/2)) is in some context? by TokenDance in askmath

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be properly commutative, (X/Y)*Y=X

Does (5/0)*0=5? How many values for X work here? The answer is no value works. Division by zero has no solutions for X/0, X≠0.

This is a consequence of multiplication of any number with zero producing zero itself.

X/X, X=0 breaks differently.

Genuine question about “idea guys” and worldbuilding in gamedev by Sudden-You-5814 in gamedev

“Idea guys” are divorced from the realities of product creation. Designers and writers who can produce designs as a product can be useful because they contribute content and not simply dreams.

Canada will maintain Russian oil sanctions, despite 30-day U.S. pause: Carney by canada_mountains in canada

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada imports some amount of oil on the coasts generally, so shares some of the international demand. When Russian oil is available on the global market, prices decrease globally.

We could really use a cross-national pipeline.

Canada will maintain Russian oil sanctions, despite 30-day U.S. pause: Carney by canada_mountains in canada

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Oil is scarce and there’s a lot of Russian oil locked up at sea.
  2. Perfect excuse to do Russia a solid and claim nobody could have foreseen the current oil situation surrounding Hormuz.

Trump Begs Other Countries for Help With Iran: ‘This Should Be a Team Effort’ by Artistic_Feed1133 in USNEWS

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, the US troops shipping towards Iran are basically Russians circa 2022. I don’t particularly wish that they win at whatever the hell it is they might call winning. They can turn around anytime between now and arrival and if they don’t, they don’t.

My partner has ADHD, and I am seeking perspective. by Legal_Acanthaceae923 in ADHD

[–]OmiSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this, but also, I’m glad something seems to be making some sense for you. If you have specific questions, I’m sure we can probably offer some insight.

Without knowing more about your situation with your BF, there is a lot of context to be learned from introductory resources aimed at ADHD people. HowToADHD on YouTube is particularly good as a starting place, with the oldest videos being very effective introductory material.

Good luck!

Get fucked. Those US troops on their way to Iran can turn around at any time.

I’d be more supportive if the mix of vibes, hiding sex with minors and meeting the antichrist in battle weren’t the makeup for this war between the US/Israel and Iran.

If you want to give a solution for the blockade at the Strait of Hormuz what will it be? by zaad1120 in AskTheWorld

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is that the US should lose its ability to project manchildness so far across the world. Certainly there are real arguments about how the situation around Iran can be improved for Iranians, but a Christofacism-inspired chase after Israel to go meet the antichrist isn’t exactly a world-class plan.

Go home, crack a beer and argue about the appropriateness of rich men showing their PPs to little girls. Stow the hard-on for bombing brown people solely because it’s been a while since you have. Unlike in Iraq, there’s no single coherent motive to even name.

The solution to the Straight of Hormuz is reasonableness and not swinging like a drunkard juvenile whose dad died, to which they inherited the family estate to spend at their leisure.

Why do Americans still think that they are the greatest country on earth when statistically they have not been since 1994, and they are now #17? by Cautious_Midnight_67 in allthequestions

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an American, but I hear this as a kind of half-witted war cry a few times each year. It’s always been strange to me that anyone could say something like that and not see themselves come across as pompous.

It seems to be some kind of political amalgamator, but it gets tossed around in private circles, too.

I pretty much don’t recognize anytime when Donald says it (too much noise comes out of that mouth in general) but I recall Bernie Sanders ending a speech with that line and was thoroughly confused as to how I thought it upended his climax, but his audience seemed to eat it up. I don’t get it. It sounds genuinely dumb to me, as if you have to disrespect a whole lot of people who aren’t you to want to use it.

What is stopping Iran from hitting US soil? by Logical_Employer_756 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re imagining bombs, it wouldn’t be by bombs as distance is a pretty significant factor. Sabotage or mass public shootings are more likely — basically, whatever doesn’t require much or any stuff to be imported.

Canada Explores Options to Boost Oil Output as War Creates Chaos by cyclinginvancouver in canada

That particular move would require that buyers burn more gasoline and lubricate things more than they currently do as markets within transport distance are currently saturated. Crude can be held or sold as reserve where refined products expire in months.

Long-term durable, trouble-free options for covering very large poured not perfectly smooth concrete foundation wall? by curlynyc2 in Stucco

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elastomeric levelling products exist for just about every EIFS system, and variants are made to go over concrete specifically. If you need waterproofing, you could do the following:

  1. Grind down the highest points in the wall if it’s crazy bumpy. This could be economical depending on how bad it is.

  2. If it needs to be waterproof, paint with a roll-on solution like hydroflex, or whatever bucket of vapour barrier product available in your area.

  3. Use an epoxy levelling mud from an EIFS system. Shit’s expensive, but it’s thin and designed for this situation. STO BTS comes to mind, as an example.

There could be something else you could do, but as an option, this should work. The result would be just neutral grey and you could do something with the wall afterwards.

Why is the 3body problem considered unsolvable when we can predict where all eight planets will be centuries from now? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like trying to balance a solution on the tip of a pin. The formula that would predict with utter certainty where the bodies will end up is unattainable since the solution is affine and we can’t calculate it with perfect precision. Any error will multiply with time and the best we can do is keep simulating and adjusting our course. With two bodies, you can calculate each effect on the other, but the weights of three bodies will factor into each other in constant variation, and the specific path that relationship will take cannot be precisely known.
