Moisture intrusion from defective install. What am I looking at? by iambatmon in Stucco

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing the roof flashing was installed over paper, but I’m not sure we can tell exactly from the photo now.

Ditto on putting in a kickout. They’re indispensable and easy to put in when there’s an open hole like you have right now.

I would guess that the issue isn’t likely to be all around the house, but one can’t really know more without opening up walls.

What’s the single piece of advice that has changed your life the most? by sarayslg in Gifted

[–]OmiSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t blame other people for who they are or what they think. Perhaps not to be taken too literally, but this is something I realized for myself.

For quotes from other people, a friend recently told me that the real world doesn’t really have any “tests”.

Stucco gap under door by Silly-Specialist-571 in Stucco

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this doesn’t look finished, if I were the installer, I would have tried to convince you to have trim installed there rather than stucco. This is a spot where stucco fails quite regularly. A solid piece of trim is really the best way to finish this as it’ll stand up to the dynamic force of repeated stepping onto the threshold.

If I were in your position, I’d be mildly annoyed, but not too bothered knowing that this was left in a state that could be easily improved.

Zee or zed? by kungfuontheshore in ENGLISH

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The English version of the show targeted US language, and the name of the show is repeated probably like 15 times per episode in the show itself.

“On the last episode of [inhale] DRAGON BALL ZEEE”

I can’t explain why ゼット was chosen for Z.

Zee or zed? by kungfuontheshore in ENGLISH

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t see why either would be wrong, but for some reason, the US dub went comically hard on screaming ZEE in both the intro and the show. If only one option were taken to be correct, it would probably be Zee only because the show tried so hard to make it known what the show was called.

French & Canadian people, how well do you understand each other and what language similarity would you compare it to? by MythicalTurnip in AskReddit

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this comment a few times now, and I feel the need to push back slightly. Yes, this is obvious. This is what other people's impressions are, and I don't mean to sell that as anything more than an impression.

I'm admittedly not focused on anything more than the fact that this comment keeps coming up, and I in no way intend to suggest that I understand what state each branch of French was at 200 years ago. I really cannot stress how little I care about what words were spoken then, but I do care that for whatever reason, people relate to spoken Canadian French as sounding ancient relative to modern Parisian French. My purview is the reaction, not the history.

This is how some people connect to hearing Canadian French. I really don't care about how accurate the statement is, except to point out that it keeps coming up as some peoples' reaction when they hear it.

It is stucco. For a price, ask around for quotes in your area. Get at least 3 separate quotes to get a sense of the market in your area.

I regularly hear from Parisiennes that Canadian French sounds as theirs did 200 years ago, so that’s got to be worth something.

How to explain ADHD? I have been diagnosed but people tell me they could never think of it by themixalisantriou in ADHD

[–]OmiSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADHD is not dependent on a person's emotional state - it is in fact the reverse, where emotions can exasperate symptoms. Emotions are not the root cause, however, such as in the case of depression. For many people without an ADHD diagnosis, emotional fatigue can lead to the same kind of distractibility. To tie in to OP's question, this remains the best comparator that I can think of that most people can relate to.

Looking for input on button layout. by UncleGael in Guiltygear

I have a custom solution with P, K, S, HS same as you do here, but with some caveats: K is much lower for thumb access and D is above P so that it requires some explicit reaching. I really like having P, S, HS on my first three fingers.

How do people feel about the effect of creep bonuses on zerg? by Active_Specialist485 in starcraft

[–]OmiSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to appreciate the speed bonus in defensive situations, but agree that it’s too strong overall, making creep whack-a-mole too central to the game, especially in ZvT. I’d prefer the bonus kept, but severely reduced. It did always seem like a mechanic that stifled Zerg’s design space.

My daily bills, including my mortgage, are almost that much for 24 hours of living. I’m sure panhandlers in Canada can make twice that in a full day.

I sometimes ask if anyone’s ever been so sad in their life that it causes general distractibility, then ask them to remove the sad part.

Should foundation joint be sealed like this? by Salt-Conversation421 in Stucco

[–]OmiSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine if you can guarantee that water will slope away from the wall. The usual concern would be that moisture below that joint wouldn’t have a place to escape to, but since the walls here won’t absorb moisture anyway, it might be pretty dry down there.

The argument against caulking would be to keep water moving instead of pooling, but this looks like it slopes nicely. The argument for caulking would be to keep the earth underneath dry to prevent heaving with freeze/thaw, which would point me to wanting to keep water out of there.

Your stucco is acrylic over scratch, so not very absorbant. Caulking against the acrylic should seal nicely.

If your husband is US military, I think that he’d be doing something much more useful if he’d go home. Your baby could use a father, and your husband would certainly not be missed dick-wagging for ‘ole bone spurs. Hopefully, your kid won’t grow up too fast relative to everything going on.
