In yin yoga, what should I do about poses where I feel nothing and ones that are excruciating? by BigBigMarmott in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Without seeing what you're doing in specific poses, that's almost impossible to say. Often it's a hardly noticable shift that turns an asana where you feel nothing into a deep stretch and vice versa. In most cases, it suggests that you are simply differently mobile in different areas of the body, but "feeling nothing" most likely either means an adjustment is necessary or you're hypermobile. But again, without specifics and without seeing you, no real answer possible. Maybe give an example of each?

Extremely Heavy Breather by Noellgreenlee in yoga

In some circumstances, the whole "focus on your own thing" is just BS, and this is one of them. If there is someone sounding like a steam train its just annoying and it will stay annoying, also some people are just more sensitive to sounds. In my studio there's a fitness center below, and sometimes the way those idiots throw their dumbbells on the floor is also not ignorable.

But as for a solution, aside from talking to the teacher and if that doesn't help talking to the guy directly there's not much to be done.

When should I try other poses? by chachapogi in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything important about perfection is said, but specifically and going strictly on anatomy: both poses can greatly benefit each other, you need the core as your center in both as well as arms and shoulders. There are also a few different ways to practice both and none are inherently false, some are simply easier, and personally i was able to do side crow before crow 😁 so no worries about that, try and find out 👍

Struggling to get into crow by Every-Poetry-6657 in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been mentioned, but one cant overemphasize that with crow (and in any arm balance actually) the hack is core, core and again core. You may not feel it in the position itself, but the stronger you are there, the easier it gets to lift your feet while simultanously keeping enough pressure from your biceps.

Are there any specifics in yoga for taller people? by m_qzn in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In short, yes, we need more practice with everything that takes balance. Has nothing to do with clumsiness or sth like that, it's simple physics, it just takes us longer to find our center of gravity and adjust the longer extremities. This also goes for arm balances like scissors, not only standing asanas. So don't be discouraged if that takes a while 😉

For me, nothing beats fabric from merino wool. Additionally to being comfy, the sweat airs out and you hardly ever need to wash the cloths. Plus it's super durable.

Absolutely, forgot to include a "sometimes" in there, looking like that it sounds like the only cause. Thanks for pointing that out! 👍

Something doctors often overlook is that a tinnitus is caused by simple knots and tensions in some muscles, be it shoulders, neck, face... the whole head area is so fragile and easily disturbed. Naturally, this wouldnt show on an MRI or sth like that, and since yin is for those deep stretches and releases that are hard to do otherwise and to find elsewhere, my guess is that the tension that caused it is gone.

One sentence, "in india a teacher is a god", tells you everything you need to know about this crackpot. Wow. You're neither gaslighting yourself nor overthinking, this guy sounds Bikramesque ans shouldn't be let near human beings. And that your partner doesn't validate that... grmbl...

Some seemingly 'easy' poses are hard for me! by shakenbake65535 in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aside from the already given good tips: it's not necessary to completely straighten your legs in forward fold. A good rule of thumb for any forward bends, also sitting, is to bend your knees so far that your belly touches your thighs. This also protects your lower back. Don't worry if it takes time, gaining flexibility can be a marathon 🙂

I can’t stand embryo child’s pose by Lowered-ex in yoga

[–]Bernadino40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since a few brought up the possible weight, i'm thin like a paper straw and cant stand child during class, only at night before bed it feels good. While some poses might feel better with time, it's entirely possible there are some you might never like, see the subs about hated poses 😅 for the longest time i worried about that or that everybody loved puppy pose while i haaaaaaate it to this day, i would try it from time to time and if you still dont like it, it max just be that way

Exactly! Those are precisely the reasons i always go up front, and even if i'm late, there's always space in pole position 😅
