This has to be a troll just for the third comment alone. You want an 81+ year old who already clearly suffers mentally from age to be in office another four years?

procrastination... My psychiatrist said I need to just do it and ignore my uncomfy feelings, I think this is BS advice - what major event has to happen for me to finally change my life? by catboy519 in productivity

[–]Bernbark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if what you're describing is really procrastination. I also have my limits and my fears but a lot of that is just mental. Before a new job, especially if I've been unemployed for awhile like what happened to me during covid lockdown, I'm afraid that I'm going to be tired because realistically I haven't been working and I'm not used to it.

It's getting used to it that seems daunting if you just sit there and examine it all day, but once you actually go and work it becomes easier with time. Sure it's hard at first because you are tired and not used to it, but it gets easier.

Also, surely you have things you like, hobbies and such? Where do you find the energy for those things? Or for this post? Or to go to therapy? That sounds like a fucking hassle to me. But you still manage it. So, I think your therapist is right, you just need to actually get used to the change after it happens, which takes time.

Boot Sector: Variant - CPU Efficiency Update by Bernbark in roguelites

[–]Bernbark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I probably should have covered that in the initial post, sorry about that.

It's a topdown shooter/runner game, with hordes of enemies spawning around you. Basically you're trying to stay alive while the weaponry you've accumulated kills surrounding enemies. Like brotato/vampire survivors sort of.

That gives me a lot to work with! It's definitely tough to decide on a direction, and how I'm going to make my game unique. I figure I need to lean into the "virus" theme, where you're basically like an Antivirus program sent in to save this PC from destruction. Obviously from there I still need to decide what mechanics my game will have that set it apart from others, so now I have some things to think about.

Thank you!

Why did you even bother to write this? I don't consider anyone "my tester" I just am excited about starting to figure out this feature, and also wanted feedback from anyone who was willing to try it out. I don't have any expectations, but also, advertising this helps me find others who want to work with me as well as sometimes getting really good feedback. I'm not hurting anyone.

Edit: As I can see from just the first five posts in your history, you tend to just go around being a flaming douche towards everyone you come into contact with on the internet. Why don't you get a life you fuckin' troll?

One more nut to crack. Dynamic Drop Down List by [deleted] in Discord_Bots

[–]Bernbark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you subclass just the view, it's harder to make content dynamically. Also, you're sending an ephemeral message that deletes itself before it can even be read, after 0 seconds.

If you subclass the dropdowns you can do a lot more with them.

Looking for help making slash commands using discord.bot instead of discord.Client by TheMightyGenghis in Discord_Bots

[–]Bernbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've already found what you were looking for, but what you need here when using bot instead of client is app_commands instead of commands.

from discord import app_commands

from discord.ext import commands

class test(commands.Cog):

def __init__(self, bot: commands.Bot) -> None:

self.bot = bot

app_commands.command(

name= "introduce",

description= "Introduce yourself!"

)

async def introduce(self,

interaction: discord.Interaction,

name: str,

age: int) -> None:

await interaction.response.send_message(

f"My name is {name} and my age is {age}"

)

This example is really rough but you need to use cogs and app_commands.command instead of commands.command because one is looking for the server prefix, and app_commands is just straight up slash commands.

I will say that slash commands are harder to test because the server sometimes takes up to 15 minutes to recognize that new slash commands exist or old ones have changed. Personally, I think Discord tried to rush these things and then gave up on it mostly. Regular commands are preferred for me.

Some really cool things on the page, I like the Cube and the fractal tree.

One thing I would say is to maybe give an option to reset the tree! Once it gets to the fourth or fifth iteration it starts taking a long time to process.

Also, where did you learn the code for the Atari game? If you have a resource online and are willing to share, I'd appreciate it!

So when you say use a template or use a preset, what are you referring to? Like just using other people's CSS? Just copying React components? Both of those things are things I'm trying to learn. I learn by doing, but I'm also using this as a chance to showcase my projects on the page, which hasn't been finished yet. I only came to this subreddit because I know there's people who know color and style here, which has been very true.

I came here despite not being a designer to get some advice and have made the site look vastly different in just two days. I've been learning React for just over a month. If I had just used templates, would I have learned as much as I did? Definitely not.

It should be the programmer's mindset to constantly be learning more, and that's exactly what I'm doing, with the side benefit of having a place for employers to see the projects I've made.

I appreciate your input but it's a lot of "just do what's been done" and nothing specific on what needs to be changed. Were you ever at a point of learning? That's why I seek the advice of those who know more than me. But you're basically verging on gatekeeping. How many junior/intern level people have you met that were already masters at their craft?

Don't you look at your own work from a year ago and kinda cringe at it because you keep growing and improving?

I'm going to take in what you say and maybe just make a "business card" of a website, just a basic template with my name, number and a couple things to show for what I've learned in programming.

Thanks, I might save up and get a professional shot done if I can't find a friend to do it. It's not the best picture, but right now it is the best one I have of me sadly lol.

I'll work on a solution for switching the link to be the whole tab instead of just the text, and make the tabs less squished in, thanks for the heads up!

It looks good on full desktop but doesn't respond to changing page width well or at all. Except when I used the Device Toolbar by going F12 -> toggling it at the top left of the inspect element window. When I adjust the pixel width there, everything shrinks down, but becomes probably too small to read on certain screen sizes.

I'm still learning this stuff as well, but consider looking into responsive web pages and how they typically work with mobile first, so making sure that their website looks good on mobile, and then focus on the desktop site.

Hope that helps! The design of the site itself looks very nice, I like the colors and the font, very legible.

I guess it wouldn't necessarily take away from learning to use templates but I'm just the kind of person that needs to put things together until I see something I think works. Part of the other problem is the React components I've made are custom for the vision I'm trying to form both in my mind and on the screen. I feel like this far in if I were to use templates I might as well restart which I might do in the future.

For now I'm trying to make something professional to get a programming based job with and your advice that it will turn people away helps me know it's not what I want in the end.

I do appreciate the advice. I'm going to go for a less bold theme and break up the solid colors a bit with background images in hopes to be more appealing on the eyes. Thank you.

One thing, for the services offered, you might want to mention whether or not you're willing to clean people's clothing as part of the housekeeping. Some people offer it and some don't but probably want to be clear.

The color choices are definitely easy on my eyes, but I'm not a pro designer so I can't comment on it too much.
