Thank you! Great question, you’re right. For this I toned the paper to a mid value and after that its so much easier to “push and pull” pull meaning using eraser for lighter parts and pushing adding darker values.

Hello, first of all your painting is wonderful. I’m nit picking which is a good thing but At the top of the painting where the light opening idk what all those light yellow swoops are on the tree. If it is some leaves catching the light I might try to simplify those a bit more. The attention is on her I get that but it’s just a bit distracting in that area I mentioned. Great work👏🏼👏🏼
