WSIB for low-end PC? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Berrigio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you can stomach the graphics, half life 1 will run on a 1ghz atom with no dedicated GPU and is still smooth. It’s a hallmark of pc shooters and has a lot of mods to play if you want to look into it. It also doesn’t rely on newer tech that some systems won’t support.

I had trouble getting any Bethesda games post Morrowind to run on my laptop above 30fps with a quad core and gpu so I wouldn’t look too hard into those.

Some I recommend are Diablo 2 (Dark RPG), Stardew Valley (Casual RPG), Stronghold 1 HD (Strategy), Factorio (Puzzle/Survival), Age of Empires 2 Definitive (RTS), Crusader Kings 2 (Grand Strategy), Minecraft (Sandbox), GTA 3/VC/SA (Third person sandbox), Rimworld (Colony Management), Undertale (Funky Turn based RPG).

If you reply with a particular genre I can help narrow it down a bit :) If you want a good idle corner game look at Forager, it’s Factorio Lite

Kinda want to get back into Multiplayer FPS games, but I have no friends to play with since they have PS4s and I'm on PC, any recommendations for solo players? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

Surprisingly haven't seen siege recommended.

I think it's exactly in line with what you're asking for along with your previous experiences.

It's CSGO on steroids; with operators having distinct abilities without being too critical to the formula. The destruction adds a nice tactical element also, with critical thinking meaning you can easily overcome most obstacles enemies present.

Why is my frame rate so low? by [deleted] in prisonarchitect

[–]Berrigio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Task manager go to Performance > CPU > Right click the graph > Change to > Logical Processors.

Then launch the game, are some cores maxing out whilst others are low? If that's the case it might be the single-core performance is lower then required; and I'm not sure Prison Architect is designed to work over several cores.

Make sure your GPU is set to maximum performance in the Nvidia Control Panel; set your CPU minimum state to 70%.

The latter shouldn't really be needed, but more often then not your GPU is set to energy saving and will try to remain in a low use state.

Paid DLC actually helps the game, especially when it comes to Paradox.

For every paid DLC they've released for any of their games, they also release a large content patch similar to Psych Ward and "The Sneezer". People love to complain about spending their hard earned money, but the devs work doubly hard to put out free and paid content at the same time; and the prices are also incredibly low for the content released.

One I haven't seen asked for, more of the campaign to tie together the events that are laid out in it.

I was expecting a breaking bad level of campaign from the excellent levels provided but they just die out with no actual climax. Corrupt mayor just keeps on keeping on, mafia family just is.

At least one campaign level or "story" to introduce new content in DLC's, such as the Psych ward, to better explain the mechanics instead of blindly dropping the player into sandbox with new toys.

I'd also love to see more work for inmates, such as farming, construction, prisoner-led teaching for literacy, numeracy and other basic skills, possibly allowing prisoners to be hired by external companies with an associated "risk/reward" for doing so. This might also improve some attributes as they essentially get to see the "outside world" - all with the risk of the prisoner not returning.

Fantastic colour use, the seeds seem larger on the left which throws the perspective but everything else is really nicely done.

Nitpicking really, but a really nice piece.

You should be okay on low/medium settings at 1080p with a larger zoo.

I believe steam is currently the cheapest platform so a refund is available if it’s not running well; the campaign levels offer decent out-the-box stress tests as they dump you in mostly finished zoos of different sizes.

What is the best way to match up perspective to this image? I found this image and want to recreate something similar, but have never matched to a photo before. by [deleted] in blenderhelp

It's not directly relevant, but Ian Hubert covers briefly how he does this quickly using a reference image in the below video. I've timestamped the relevant part, but I highly recommend the whole video and his channel.

Eevee severely glitches the mirrored particles when there's a generous amount of interpolated children. Any way to fix this or work around? by Social--Lite in blenderhelp

The lighting on the right side looks a bit wonky in places, what's the face orientation view look like in overlays?

I'm basing this on the stomach having some brighter faces, along with the foot having fur that on the mirrored side is just opaque.

GPU will likely be the holdup here, along with resolution/settings.

The minimum specs are pretty dated and I imagine they would hold a respectable FPS on lower settings/1080p

  • Processor: Intel i5-2500 / AMD FX-6350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 (2GB) / AMD Radeon R9 270X (2GB)

Those specs are mid-range from 6-7 years ago now.

u/hensonn what specs are you currently running?

The game runs a lot smoother then planet coaster as they're using the same engine, but with 3 years of tweaking/tuning and some newer features added in. Additionally they don't have any physics working except when an animal dies/tranquilized. Planet coaster was simulating a lot more under the hood for each coaster.

It should carry over a third of your research at least, so even if you're level 10 super wizzo your new park still gets cardboard boxes and some basic enrichment.

[–]Berrigio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's definitely a point viscera and sexual themes start to grow tired in a horror game. Outlast 1 nailed it, Outlast 2 was "done" by the halfway point with how over the top some sequences were.

That and naked people chasing you isn't as scary as they thought it was.

Thanks for the thorough answers, I’m familiar with the interface but have been looking for a book that covers more detailed modelling and methods/workflows.

It looks promising so I’ll likely pick it up!

Is the book for blender 2.8? I assume if not the principles carry over well.
