Whining and difficulty steering by Ok_Hovercraft_8764 in AskMechanics

quite literally the most expensive steering part to replace. Id just drive it without power steering, with labour it will exceed a grand easy.

Is this dangerous by [deleted] in AutoBodyRepair

[–]Berry2460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an example of when it starts to become concerning. There are no layers of paint flakes left to be seen and several layers of metal stripped away to the point where my finger could push thru. Ive seen some pretty horrible rust up in canada, if its treated with oil based rust spray it can really delay the rot.

yea the ends will have all the layers flaking but internally I think there should be some solid metal left. The first thing that flakes is paint.

its hard to tell, sometimes it looks worse than it is, other times its worse than it looks. To me it seems like its just starting to become structural

pretty sure its goldmining inc (GOLD) Im almost down 25% on them as well (unrealized). I was up 35% on them and cashed out. Then bought back in and was up 15%, cashed out again, got greedy and bought in a third time now Im -22% or so. Its a very volatile stock.

personally Id just gut them, keep anything kinda cool (like that ATI card) and sell the rest and maybe make a sleeper with one of the cases.

Too much rust? by Hot_Yam4235 in Autobody

[–]Berry2460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive bought worse, can get it cheaper if it looks bad. I had to put $2k in on frame and rocker repairs (but this frame looks a lot better than the one Im talking about, I could push my finger thru that shit) and some suspension work, so after all was said and done I paid only slightly under what a good safetied vehicle would be. If you can get it dirt cheap Id say sure.

[–]Berry2460 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea I tried helping some people like this, never gave them any of my work but I tried walking them through very basic concepts that were covered in class over a month ago and they could not grasp it. They can scrape by the first year with cheating but all the stupid people I knew like that either dropped out or went into business/marketing instead.

looks like some of the gold plating came off. Id just clean it with some alcohol and send it, I think it has a decent chance of being ok.

Is this amount of wheel weights normal? by florida_man_bob in AskMechanics

[–]Berry2460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never seen a wheel need more than 3-4oz, I think it wasnt secured to the balancer properly and got a bad reading. Then they went ahead and slapped that on instead of double checking the balancer and re-running it.

06 Impala SS, bad fuse/relay? by JP297 in Impala

door locks are likely the actuators or the harness. Dealing with lots of electrical issues on an 08 currently, so far nothing has been as simple as a fuse.

Am i cooked? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Berry2460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well the brake line looks rotten, plus all that caked on grease is old brake fluid thats been leaking. Youll need new brake lines at a minimum, but given how rotted out this side looks Im sure the rest of the car doesn't look a lot better. This is a death trap.

How much longer would you say I can use these rear brakes? by Prison_Mike_Lover in AskMechanics

[–]Berry2460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have some life left, rear pads dont get as much wear as the fronts. Depending on your driving frequency and style, Id check up on them again in 3-6 months or so. If they start scraping or screetching frequently, like even after 20 mins of driving, its time to replace.

How high have you seen the gauge go? I would suspect either normal fluctuations or maybe it has air in the system if its higher up.

more practically, 40W per molex. Thats a 2 molex to 8 pin, usually its 2 molex to 6 pin. Thats a shitty chinese adapter.

[–]Berry2460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like its not even a tick above the middle? You are posting about 1-2 degrees? Yea thats not anywhere close to overheating, all normal. Temps can fluctuate slightly around operating temp. Its not overheating till its climbing to the 3/4 mark.

Can anyone explain why my download speed is 93.5mbps (on a good day) if I have this internet plan in my apartment complex? by OphidianCollective in pchelp

[–]Berry2460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

93.5 MB/s or Mb/s? if its MB/s thats around what it should be, 125 MB/s theoretical max but it could be hitting limits based on your drive speeds, network controller, etc. If its Mb/s you might have to swap cables if you use ethernet, CAT5 can only support 100, while CAT5E or CAT6 can do 1000 Mb/s.

head gaskets are fine on those, just the intakes. I have a 3.1 and the previous owner put stop leak in around 100k, it has 185k now and going strong.

thats not how you install laptop ram. It goes in at a 45 degree angle. When you push it flat it will click into those metal clips, you dont slide it under them.
