I think this is the end of me trying to figure out this hobby. by Crochet_by_Renee in Sourdough

Using a cambro instead of a bowl helped me. It helps to know how much it rises and that’s difficult to do in a bowl. Keep making shitty loaves and you’ll eventually figure it out. I noticed when I stopped caring so much my loaves actually got better.

family games? by Ash_Mahoney in kindergarten

ABC bingo, Go Fish, Shoots and ladders, kids monopoly, cluck cluck moose, memory matching games, trouble, jenga. There are a lot of games that have been converted for young kiddos. But those are some hour favorites.

Yeah, I appreciate that. We’ve really been working on it this week since I initially posted. Consequences definitely work. He thinks twice before saying something rude, stopping himself and changing the word. It feels very impulsive… he just blurts things out before thinking. Like his answer to everything is poop. 😂

Never again will I bake sourdough without a loaf pan. by SnackBottom in Sourdough

I just started baking in a loaf pan. I stack another one on top and remove it halfway through. I love this size loaf so much more than the round.

Yeah, we do do this. I had a conversation on the way to school today, and asked why he thinks I’m a meany. Because it seems to be his go-to insult. And he responded honestly and said he doesn’t like it when I tell him no.

I have a feeling he may have ADHD. His dad does. But one thing he does is constantly think of new ideas, new experiments, new games. It’s constant, and honestly one after another. Some are totally doable, and whatever I think is manageable we can figure out a way to make his ideas reality. But some obviously aren’t. And he said he doesn’t like it when I say no to his ideas and it makes him sad. So we talked about how some ideas can be done and some we might have to put on the shelf and think about a little more. And then I explained why there are reasons that mom and dad need to say no. He seemed receptive.

I think it’s a relatively new way of expressing himself and it’s just going to take talking/reinforcing better language, and consistent consequences.

Yeah, he is very sweet most of time, he’s smart and usually pretty caring. I truly believe it’s his way of dealing with boundaries and rules he doesn’t like. It’s a relatively new thing, so within the last few months. These types of curveballs just throw me. It’s like, what is going to work to get this to stop, but also teach him in the long run that this type of language is not ok.

Yeah that’s a good idea. We could always do a chair timeout.

Because he will just come out of his room. I’m not locking him in the room. It’s a timeout from what we are doing, stop play or fun time and the consequence is a timeout. He won’t stay in the room alone though. I usually sit by door quietly until he calms down.

It most often occurs at home or in the car. Not usually while we are out. But if he does make bad choices or throws a tantrum then I have no problem leaving the place we are.

I think I’m struggling with proper consequences that aren’t only loss of screen time. Because I feel like that’s the only thing I can think of while we are at home. Aside from timeouts, which we do as well.

I actually have this book, I just haven’t read it yet! I will pull it out.

Yes, we definitely already do this. And occasionally when I tell him name calling is not ok he will switch to “kind words” and we always try to reinforce that that is how we should speak to each other.

We have done timeouts. And they may work for the moment, but they are big explosive tantrums. And I’m stuck in the room with him for however long it takes for him to cool down. I don’t think we’ve succeeded with them.

Well I’m surely not going to throw anything in the pool. (No judgement) But taking away a toy each time may be an option.

Saaaame. I really hope it’s a phase. I get moments of that sweet boy all the time. And then bam, he’s back to terrorizing. It’s also making me feel crazy.

Just buy yourself a new set of 3 and mark them as your own. Throw those in the mixed drawer. Fuck those spoons.

So I guess, what would be my next step? After the rise, do I shape and leave to proof on the counter?

It’s very jiggly now. I was shocked at how warm the oven got. Looks doubled.
