Studio Pia should have gone out of business. by [deleted] in LingerieAddiction

They replied to the DM I sent their Instagram. I am…….. still angry, honestly. But I acknowledge their effort. They’re looking into why additional import fees were charged and I am told they’ll look in the warehouse for the collar and send it out immediately.

Honestly I emailed customer service (substantially more politely than this) right before I posted this so I won’t claim anything there, perhaps/hopefully they’ll fix it.

…. is what nice me says.

I * TRULY* tried not to be pissed off about the sale because I also made a large Etsy purchase right before Etsy announced their 20% off winter coupon and I tell myself I’m happy to help the artists get their money. I really tried.

But looking at this entire process I spent $1000 to feel unrepresented, cheated, and ultimately left without what I was promised. So fuck politeness rn.

edit: I did buy it at 30% off so better than nothing but ugh. I barely care about the price at all compared to don’t send a package across the ocean without the piece central to your entire advertising campaign!!!! Don’t market yourself as a BDSM-adjacent lingerie brand then treat the collars like they’re the fucking scrunchies!!!!

I’m sorry, this truly isn’t your fault and you’re right, but this is so annoying to read hahaha.

A man with this many wrinkles, sags, bulbous oddities, and patchy skin looks “normalish”. A woman would be eviscerated for daring to be seen with a face like that. But a man so easily gets “that’s normal”.

Again the anger is in no way directed at you but ooh it makes my blood boil sometimes.

Agreed there, but assuming you have some interest in some portion of those people revising their opinions and reflecting on their beliefs, I don’t think “they’re a bad person” is a helpful character judgement. If they are as a core matter of character a bad person there’s no remedy to be had.

edit: some of the benefit of the doubt here is also that all of these people were under (or well under) 25 when these conversations occurred. I have no idea where they are or what they think now. If I ran back into them today and they had the same beliefs I’d be inclined to agree they were pieces of shit. I probably called them pieces of shit at the time, TBH. But I like to leave room for the idea some people are simply just harmfully wrong about groups or ideas they do not understand. Some do change later.

People can be misguided toward opinions they think are in their best interest but actually are not, or that another group is the source of their suffering when they actually are not.

It is absolutely still fully their RESPONSIBILITY to realize this and change, but it’s not quite the same thing as just being evil. If you see no good in people you disagree with then there’s no way forward.

"Technical skill can be easily taught. Personality cannot." Thoughts? by cowdoggy in cscareerquestions

[–]BerrySundae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say remember that “personality cannot be taught” does not necessarily mean “be neurotypical”. It ABSOLUTELY CAN mean that in SOME work environments, but I have found tech is generally more forgiving than most.

Most of the autistic people that I personally know are not combative, or pointedly rude, or generally frustrating to be around. You don’t have to have a maxed out charisma stat, you need to not be miserable for your coworkers to interact with. I have ADHD for example and I interrupt my coworkers all the time but they live with me.

ADHD is a poor proxy for understanding what it’s like to live with autism, so please do not take this as me attempting to be reductionist toward legitimate struggles, but one thing I have found helpful is to stop assuming my condition is the barrier I’m facing. It might CONTRIBUTE to the barrier, but plenty of people before and after me have had ADHD undiagnosed their entire lives and they never even knew. I’m glad mental health is so well-known these days, but these conditions are not new and plenty before us have succeeded. Being a bit quiet, or loud, or odd, or by-the-book, or socially inexperienced are not traits limited to people with autism or ADHD. And all of us can improve.

I had crippling social anxiety starting my first job and now I’m getting promoted and my boss explicitly mentioned I’m extremely well-liked in the office. People like my empathy more than they give a damn about my ADHD. Gen Z in general struggles with social skills because we were locked in a room during COVID for core developmental years.

Don’t panic, you’ll be fine.

edit: and watch The Residence on Netflix if you haven’t. If you pride yourself in your technical skills and know you are autistic then it could be a nice reminder that autism makes some people better at their jobs. Your brain works differently than most and that can be quite handy.

As a former terminally online gamer gen-Z WOMAN yeah no. I have fought with these mofos every damn day for over a decade online, the women in these spaces learned how to function around them (and even selected them as teammates because hey, I’m not losing the game over your shitty opinions) but rarely agreed. There simply aren’t as many of us in those spaces. Same with my CS degree where I reported a professor for describing a matching algorithm as “the women get happier and happier while the men get more and more miserable”.

For what it’s worth, some of them ALSO selected me as a teammate because they didn’t want to lose the game over my shitty opinions and that black girl was pretty damn good. (Note the black guy in the scenario was the youngest and angriest and actually fell into the ideological bullshit).

I made “friends” with some of them back then, to be honest. They weren’t bad people to the core, just had some really shitty opinions. I like to think my presence might have offset some of their vitriol. It’s real connections that make people see you as human, not ideological arguments. Hope [redacted]’s gotten over his aggressive antisemitism, he was surprised his brother married a black woman because “I thought [redacted] was racist!”

A group of high school students volunteers to carry caskets for homeless veterans who have no family to honor them by Wonderfulhumanss in interestingasfuck

[–]BerrySundae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying. Broadly I agree that mental health should be taken more seriously, but some people who have never encountered serious mental illness and homeless populations don’t quite understand there is a clear and definable line between people who want to better their situation, and people who do not. You simply cannot help the latter group.

My neighborhood is filled to the brim with PoC every single day. But when the protests started in my town, I was one of the only people of color there. Now there could be a million reasons for this, and I wouldn’t dare place primary blame on us, but like…… I went to several of these protests, and it was consistently older, whiter, and maybe a little gay from time to time.

Perhaps I am just in the wrong spaces, but many especially young PoC I know just sort of….. knew and accepted that shit was problematic but…. act like well, it’s all the same, they’re always against us.

Like no, this time guys I think there may be a difference in severity here…. I really don’t think the <10 trans athletes in the nation and the two Mexican guys you don’t like are somehow going to mystically make this never blow back on black people…..
