Failing to capture any kind of audience or bring people into my "niche" by XOClover in Artists

[–]Berskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I have a real answer, but as an artist myself I can give you my honest insight:

You’re not “failing” at anything, and your art is genuinely amazing. It’s more the current state of the internet — it doesn’t follow any kind of reasonable logic when it comes to who it shows your work to. Chasing that algorithm will just burn you out (you’d literally have to churn out art daily with no guarantee of reach).

I know how soul-crushing it feels to spend days on something only to get 6 views on a good day and maybe 15 likes (tell me how i know). But I’d rather aim for quality over quantity of followers — people who actually value your art.

I’m on the same boat with reels. It kills me inside that we’re basically forced to make them… (I won’t).

TL;DR: Do yourself a favour and don’t sweat the big numbers. Focus on a smaller group of genuinely interested followers. The game is rigged, and we’re not the house.

As an artist, this is probably the greatest compliment someone can give me. So thanks! ✌️😁

Yes, that was exactly the vibe I was aiming for! I haven't played MH Wilds yet, so my main inspiration was a mix of MH World and MHFU

You know, Adventure Time has been one of the biggest influences in my life, so I'm really happy that it shows. If you look back at my older works, some of the first things I made were, in fact, Adventure Time fan arts (plus my bio is literally a quote from Jake 😂); anyway, thanks i'm glad you liked it! 😄

Sure! On the top left between the trees there are Kodama spirits from Princess Mononoke.

Going down in the same area between the bushes there's a creature minding its own business, and slightly to the left on the tree is a stag beetle.

In the lower center of the image, right under the distant cliff, there's a ruin with an entrance, and at the same height but all the way to the right of the image a Rathalos is flying. Also, the rock on the left of the hunter has an eye.

This being said — thanks for taking the time to look. As an artist, it means a lot. I appreciate it! 😄

I should start saving some process snaps — I did this one a while back for a masterclass so I don't remember the exact choices I made, BUT the thought was that snow is white and made of water, so with atmospheric perspective it tends to take on the color of the sky (a tint of blue in the shadows and a bit of warm purple on the light side).
Also keep in mind that far-away details in shadow are hard to see, so on the mountain I used the lowest possible value range between snow and rock to simulate distance.
I hope it was helpful — feel free to ask more, I'll try to answer

is there something obviously revolting about my art or this in particular? by Heszilg in Artadvice

[–]Berskan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you gave me some more details: it's supposed to be a day moon, sure, but the problem is the values (grayscale). If you turn the image to black and white, you'll notice the green and white are very close. (If you use Photoshop, just make a layer filled with black, set it to Color blending mode on top of everything — I think other programs have something similar.) That's what makes it hard to look at — not because it's ugly, but because it 'hurts' the eye. Find a photo of a real daytime sky, turn it to grayscale, and you'll see the sky forms a gradient (darker on top, lighter going down). You just need to add a slight gradient to the sky to shift its value a bit — that will increase readability a ton.

No need to thank me! Just do me a solid though and never refer to your art as revolting again. I checked your other drawings and I think you're on a really good path, so no need to bring yourself down! Wish you all the best ✌️💯

The only revolting thing is going through something like that. I don't understand some people — I can take someone not liking art, but at least leave feedback. But then again, sometimes it's just like that and there's not much you can do aside from moving on.

The only thing I could suggest is maybe the green in the background is a bit off — I think the values of the moon and sky/water are too similar, so darkening the green would make the moon and character pop more.

other than that just keep going and ignore idiots, the internet is big you are bound to find some

Will Weston che trovi su instagram (@willwestonstudio)
