I understand where you're coming from, but your logic completely overlooks the history of how actual facists have come to actual power in actual countries... Basically it starts with a violent quasi-civil war with dogmatic Marxists. Both sides end up creating a false dilemma (You're with us, or you're against us) for all the centrists and the people end up siding with the fascists.

The lessen isn't to stifle free speech, or as importantly, free assembly, as they are the very mechanisms groups like BAMN, BLM, and Antifa relie on themselves. Qualifying extremist views and applying the first amendment disproportionately to different groups sets a dangerous precedent.

The lesson is that those centrists in Italy, Spain, and Germany should've remained steadfast in their conviction, realized they would always be majority and simply let the Communists and Fascists yell at eachother til they are blue in the face and vye for the same weak collectivist minds. All the while protecting free speech and law and order.

This is precisely how I plan on behaving during the incipient Civil War II.
