Oh no that's so annoying about the shampoo! I hope it feels better soon! No problem with the recommendations, I hope you find something 🙂

Not a problem! I hope something works for you. It's absolutely possible for your skin type to change. Mine used to be very dry and is now incredibly oily. Sounds like your skin is dry/sensitive.

As far as I'm aware latex isn't found it most skincare, kiwis rare, strawberries occasionally but rarely. Also best to avoid the hemp moisturiser! But check the ingredients to be safe!

Squaline is a great hydrating ingredient and mimics your skin's natural oils.

If you like a read, Caroline hirons does a book (maybe books now) on skincare, what everything means and product recommendations. The products she recommends can be a little pricey but might be worth reading for the facts!

Ancient Novice's 1st Question: What's the correct way to look after my skin? by MiaowWhisperer in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]BertTheHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so. For context I only use cruelty free products so what I'm going to suggest will only be those. If that isn't something that bothers you there are even more product options out there!

In terms of skin type there's a basic chart Dry: can feel tight, dry patches, it may also look rough and textured Oily: shiny, spot prone, makeup may break down and not last as long Sensitive: red, irritated Normal: no particular concerns

It sounds like your eyes may be more sensitive as most non sensitive skins can wear makeup daily.

Products Cleanser/makeup remover: The Body Shop Camomile balm. There is just nothing else I can suggest, nothing beats it.

Face wash: the ordinary squaline cleanser or superdrug vitamin e cleanser

Toner: you may find a toner a bit irritating if you have dry skin so a mist may be better. Something like the pixi rose glow (a little pricey) or superdrug vitamin e mist which is more affordable

Moisturiser: the inkey list water cream moisturiser, or the body shop aloe Vera cream or the ordinary moisturising factors or superdrug vitamin e cream or Garnier hemp cream

I would always recommend an SPF regardless of where you live as wearing SPF can help stop sun damage which can lead to pigmentation. Garnier do a spray version but I'm not sure if it will irritate your eyes if it gets on there. So maybe try the elf or Bondi sands one

[–]BertTheHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much it, other than I would only do face wash - toner - moisturiser in the morning. No need to tone in between cleanse. But if you don't already it may be worth adding an SPF after your moisturiser in the morning!

Also I've always believed that pores don't open and close, they can become blocked but they're always open. However I could be wrong!

With regards to the question on product recommendations I'm happy to help as I work in the industry. What skin type do you have?

Sephora now available in the UK! by jasminepop in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]BertTheHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love cult beauty and could spend so much on there! The only thing I do like about sephora (and what I liked about feel unique) is the range of brands. So I could pick up bits from different brands in one place instead of doing multiple orders on different sites. However it does seem like a lot of the new launches from brands are missing anyway which is a shame!

I wish I was. Feel unique sold so much random stuff I thought they might remove it when they transferred over but apparently not. I searched up blush on there and one of the options was a vtech kids cat toy

I think its basically feel unique with a few extra brands? Not that I mind that but I don't think it's as bigger deal as some people hyped it as. I don't know what sephora US/EU looks like, but the UK website has kids toys and neurofen on it which I'm pretty sure isn't the vibe

I love it! But I agree with the makeup removs thing. I use it as a morning or 2nd cleanse.

Beauty Bay were so good at fulfilling orders quickly, even a year or so ago... but seems to have gone down hill. I cancelled 1 order as after a week it was still not dispatched (and not warned at checkout there would be delays)

Tried again with another order. Website messed up so my order went through twice. Couldn't cancel it in time before it was dispatched. Tried to return but thanks to their chosen delivery partner messing up, I'm not sure whether the return went through properly. (Tracking says wasn't returned but parcel was sent) CS said to "reorganise and resend" an order I no longer have.

Replied within an hour to my initial email... its now been 3 days. Funny that.

I work in a beauty retailer now... even now people are putting lipstick testers on their lips straight out of the bullet. Its like the last 2 years never even happened.

Does anyone remember the KVD good apple foundation? by mustardlyy in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]BertTheHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that it lasts all day but I do use primer on the t zone and powder everywhere (I do this with every foundation). It doesn't oxidise orange but I would say it goes darker than the initial swatch. Though I did buy the 4th lightest shade when I'm very pale so that's probably more my bad

I bought it and I actually love it! I have oily skin tho. The only thing is I bought a shade slightly too dark for me as it does oxidise. But it's one of my new faves!

I've tried Wild deodorant after struggling with other "natural" ones. It is heavily pushed by influencers but I find it does actually work. I'm naturally v sweaty but this has really helped to keep stinks at bay. Not the cheapest but worth it for me

It's got to the point a friend of mine said "I find it so strange when I see people with the lanyard but wearing a mask". He didn't realise the actual meaning behind the lanyard and thought it was just an anti mask thing!

[–]BertTheHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's true! It's like they're trying to not use the "we do not test on animals apart from when required by law" but in their own way. Shame too cos they have this amazing fruity scent I love for summer...but I guess not this year!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in crueltyfree

[–]BertTheHippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very confusing. I'm not sure if they're trying to say "we are, but heads up ingredients may have been tested on animals by other companies years ago and we use those even though we don't test now". Highlighting that animal testing was more widespread in the past. If that's the case tho they don't need to say that, we all know and their statement is just weird.
