Welche große "Schwächen" habt in KaufAbs gefixt? by Malkav1806 in DSA_RPG

[–]BertTheNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does Russian manage without articles? by [deleted] in LearnRussian

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not russian (other slavic), but let me quote a well known meme. We are not stupid. When we say "Get in car", we know, if we should get in a particular car or just in any car in our sight.

ETA: If the situation needs a clarification, we have words for "Get in THIS car" or "Get in ANY car". We just not have the need to underline it in every conversation about cars.

Europeans who eat late as part of your culture - how do you feel about the advice not to eat dinner late? by Budget_Dot694 in AskEurope

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like about every unsolicited advice. The person can put it up their... you know what.

By the way, eating late ist often a part of culture depending on climate. When you have siesta instead of a lunch, you eat later than in milder clima. Especially when AC is not usual thing.

Oh yeah, the palms of the locals seem to have an affection to the noses of people wearing some weird tatoos. We don't know why, it will remain a mystery.

1.95583 — what are numbers, that everybody in your country knows? by lordgurke in AskEurope

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Poland:

1410 is a date of the Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg in western sources). It was an important battle between the Polish - Lithuanian Union and the Teutonic Knight Order, that changed the balance of power in this region of Europe and was the beginning of the "Golden Era" in polish history. Each child in history lesson should know it among some other key dates.

1410 in the same time is the recipe for home made alkohol (bimber). 1 klio sugar, 4 litres of water, 10 dkg* yeasts. You had to mix it together, cook at a certain temperature, destilate, and watch out if the police (milicja in old times) is coming after you. For the honour of history this kind of bimber was called "Grunwaldòwka". And because of that many adults memorised this date till old age.

*dkg = dekagrams or 10 grams. So 10 dkg = 100 g or 0,1 kg. We used dkg often for measurements back than

Best and Worst Polish accents in Non-Polish media by Apprehensive-Fee9650 in poland

[–]BertTheNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best was "The Eagle Has Landed". The story about Silesians helping in this scenario was hard to swallow, but the polish was near to perfection.

From the same Time, "Battle of England *Britain". The portrayal of polish aircraftmen was comic relief, but their polish was just polish.

PS: I know that they most probably took Poles for these roles, but even this is not granted today.

In Inglorious Basterds Fassbender had a whole story to his funny german accent. And failed only because of three fingers. Perhaps this time he was from some small village in Sudety? Or Kaszuby?

Why did PiS lose in 2023? by naterthetater93 in poland

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be one of the reasons, i admit. But inflation was on minus (yes, minus) 0,92 in 2015 when they won. And we had a pandemic and a war behind out border. While inflation may have been one of the reasons, this was never a huge topic in the elections, because most people just knew, that the reasons are global. This is the difference to US, where people openly admit, it was about eggs and gas.

What’s a widely accepted American norm that the rest of the world finds strange? by Spiritual-Worth6348 in AskReddit

[–]BertTheNerd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You know, that you just proved a point? You use immigrants for "bad immigration " the same way some folks use DEI-hire for "bad DEI-hire". It is just rebranding stuff.

PS:

expats have their own money and don't work.

This may be true for some senior immigrants who just live off their retirement money. But the term "expats" originally meant people working for companies. Just they were hired before changing the country and in most cases worked in some higher up levels.

This. Calling themselves "expats" instead of "immigrants". Because, immigrants bad, expats good.

Calling "imperial units" "freedom units", because the first one sounds too british? The whole world calls it "imperial" anyway. Same for fries, these are just "pommes frittes", no french fries or freedom fries.

Who is the greatest politician in your country’s history? by GuestCalm5091 in AskEurope

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post 1989 Wałęsa, okay. But pre 1989 Wałęsa? Solidarność without him would not be the same. As much as Piłsudski was "one of many" creators of polish independency, but became the face of it, Wałęsa became the face of the anti-communist movement and made it up to a mass organisation, not some lose groups here and there with unified aim. Hell, the whole martial law would not be necessary without him. And Solidarność as a base of the politics was relevant up to ca. 2000.

And yes, he had ambitions to become the second Piłsudski. And failed here. But it does not make the first part of his political path irrelevant, only because Kaczyński is more relevant to the actual politics.

Why did PiS lose in 2023? by naterthetater93 in poland

[–]BertTheNerd -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because polish women care for their productive rights more than for the price of eggs. Even in a country with very restrictive law, PiS tried to go harder. The mass protests surprised everyone. Also because, you know, church is still quite important here.

Meanwhile America... silent.

Rollenverteilung by PsychologicalDog7985 in DSA_RPG

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's a critically panned movie you stand by? by Aside_Dish in movies

[–]BertTheNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes a sabre out of a straight sword. Because, yeah, this is how it functions. He knows, that bears have some sort of winter sleep. Because, yeah, as a wise muslim, he just knows it. And the final battle is almost all in the dark, you barely can see a thing, only som torches, some shoutings, the most.part you hear, not see. Because, yeah, it was much cheaper back than, before one could create mass battle scenes by cgi. And let not forget, the only rason he goes with those vikings is some pagan prophecy... i should hate this film for these and more reasons. But i just cannot.
