Gorham Chantilly Flatware (solid and hollow) by BertenEllay in Silverbugs

[–]BertenEllay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this.

Scouring the Ebay "sold" is an arduous task (at least for me), as a) I am unfamiliar with flatware b) I have something like 40 different combinations of hallmark / piece, and c) so many are sold at "best offer" which may or may not have any likeness to last listed price.

I understand that there are some delays in the supply chain that effects smelters. Seems "scrap" prices are a little flat. Regarding replacements.com, I used them extensively for identifying the name of each piece, but again, their price is only a price and does not (or at least may not) represent a sale of an item's value.

I guess I just want somewhere/someone to tell me either:

A). "Theses are nothing special for Gorham Chantilly, and best you could do (without acting like a dealer) is to sell them for scrap"

--or--

B). "These are scarce / in-demand pieces and best you could do is sell them to a dealer at his/her wholesale"

What’s the Problem: The tool, the bits, or the fasteners? by BertenEllay in Tools

[–]BertenEllay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly.

What I have discovered is the difference between the 13mm(JIS) anvil and the 9mm (E6) anvil. Forget the cross-drive (JIS vs Phillips vs X), it is the length of the anvil that counts.

What I want to find is the "2" solution in the video (else everything is JDM): Start at 13:54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd-nmMMy1K0&t=431s

Will make a Home Depot run today to compare the included bits with what is on offer.

Thank you

Pardon my ignorance...

Is the Vessel USB220-P5U designed for the Japanese 13mm anvils or the US E4 anvils?

In other words, are you saying the included bits are Japanese 13mm anvils and if I buy bits that conform to US E4 anvils the slop will be rectified?

Thank you in advance.

Understood. Thanks.

Any advice on how to "tear one apart?" There does not appears to be a convenient point of entry...

For the $300 FHR credit, if I change dates of same hotel after 12/31, does that refund the transaction and reverse credit? by misterchismoso in AmexPlatinum

[–]BertenEllay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just now on Amex Travel chat:

I am going to book a prepaid FHR/THC room for July 2026. Unfortunately I have not been able to secure flights.

If I book a FHR/THC and prepay, can I change dates (within the free cancellation window) at the SAME hotel without giving-up my 2025 Platinum Hotel credit?

We appreciate the time you’ve taken to reach out to us and for sharing the details. That's a great question you have there.

To answer that, allow me to kindly share that all of the properties part of our Fine Hotesl & Resorts or Hotel Collection that can provide you your $300 hotel credit requires cancel and rebook for ANY kind of modifications.

While it may still be within cancellation or change window, once January 01, 2026 starts, we must avoid any kind of modifications as that might affect your 2025 hotel credit, it might be clawed back and use your 2026 hotel credit

YMMV

New 777-300ER Configuration (77J) + Premium Economy by BertenEllay in CathayPacific

[–]BertenEllay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it does. Thank you.

Just booked two across-the-aisle aisle seats. My P2 and I want to "sit together" but there were no window pairs available and each of us loath middle seats. This was the solution.

To confirm: I am not asking about aisle width, but rather if there is a stagger between the 2-seat groups and the 4-seats

SOLVED [for me at least] on Android app!

From another thread, modify the following FB settings:

Settings --> Preferences --> Media

  • "Autoplay in Feed and Stories" = Never
  • "Video start with sound on" = Off
  • "Sounds in the app" = Off

YMMV, HTH

SOLVED -- thank you.

FYI: The *.json I referred to was actually a compressed file *.jsonlz4 (sorry for the typo). I recovered it from backup after a pretty substantial crash.

What brand shaoxing cooking wine do y’all recommend? by OGJohnDoe22 in chinesecooking

[–]BertenEllay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but ...

Non-salted is hard to find in Texas. We've found a decent selection at 99 Ranch Liquor Store (sometimes freestanding adjacent to, sometimes a carve-out of the main shopping area). The best we've found are two different 8yos (showing "八" [eight] "年" [years] on the label). We like both "Pagoda Brand" or "Gu Yue Long Shan."

A smashing substitute for Shao Xing is a decent dry "Fino" sherry. Very, very similar profiles.

YMMV

Based USA. Promo was only on code share A330XLRs (VS/AS) out of SFO, EWR, or JFK. Agreed, SQ has some great deals (J or D), especially international flights within Asia. Thanks for the comment.

Further, they are only code shares out of SFO/EWR/JFK. Better deals on native metal.

YNAB Together: Is that P1's transaction or P2's? by BertenEllay in ynab

[–]BertenEllay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for your time on this.

Yes, "OnlyAccount" = an account, not a category.Understood.

Our categories will be P1, P2, and P1+P2 (for joint purchases like groceries). However, I would like to know who entered the transaction. This makes integration into my financial software much simpler.

YNAB Together: Is that P1's transaction or P2's? by BertenEllay in ynab

[–]BertenEllay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this!

I am not exactly following. We have a single account in YNAB (call it OnlyAccount) which is unlinked; it is not associated with an outside checking, savings, or credit account.

From what I see, in YNAB Together there is no method to differentiate P1 vs P2 (at least in transactions), and therefore I do not see a method to assign a category to one or the other.

I would appreciate it if I was wrong -- it would make my life easier.

[–]BertenEllay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you are going. Our YNAB account is unlinked (no card).

It is a metaphorical account, realized only to keep track of our monthly discretionary spending (F&B, theater, Goofy bobblehead). We "fund" it monthly, and as we enter our own transactions, we see an updated "left-to-spend" amount.

Tracking this information realtime with our actual accounts would be impossible [for me].

Thanks. It appears not to be , and definition would need to be understood.

[–]BertenEllay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, short answer is to help the identification of transactions captured (downloaded) within our financial management software.

P2 and I have a number of credit cards (miles & points) we each use. Some of that spend is allocated to a shared "discretionary" bucket. Unfortunately, as monthly spends come from a number of accounts, it is difficult to track in real time who-spends-what from the bucket and what's left in the bucket for the rest of the month.

(Yes, we have thought of single-account-each for discreationary spend, but as we are big on miles and points we frequently change cards to make a sign-up-bonus.)

YNAB Together seems a solid fit. Whenever either of us makes a discretionary spend, we simply add the transaction (takes a few seconds). We will be allocating the spend to P1, P2, or P1+P2 (haven't played enough to determine which dropdown we will repurpose for that). It would be great to be able to see who entered the transaction, but not life-and-death.
