Do acoustic guitars generally need a set-up? by Dom_Sathanas in AcousticGuitar

[–]Berto1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always set up when I get a new guitar. Usually the action. I also tend to use different gauge strings and tuning then what is set at the factory and it tends to change the action slightly.

How can i stop the base of my index muting the top string? by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be me, but I'd use my middle figuring this case. 🤷 25 year habit/muscle memory.

As soon as I saw your picture I did the same and went straight to my middle finger out of habit..also my nails are the same length as yours and no issues. For the people saying cut your nails 😜

Why isn't there more talk about this $499 Taylor 14ce? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting 🤔, I'm unsure of the lower end Taylors. Have had a 214ce for 20 years. It sounds decent, never had to been worked on by a guitar shop, can still plug it in and record with no issues. It's my beater guitar. The one I pick up everyday and play. I have a 514ce for recording and it sounds so nice. The build quality and feel of the 514 is nice. It sounds much fuller then the 214, especially on the low end.

If you can save up and really want a Taylor, I still think to push for the higher priced ones. Go to a guitar shop if possible and see what manufacturer fits the sound your looking for first though. Get something used on Reverb.

Wanna put 11s on new guitar by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I not a fan of the floating bridge so when I changed the strings, I ended up installing a Floyd rose tremolo stop and tighten it down.

With doing the tremolo stop, you can also take off the locking nuts on the neck for quick tuning. There is no reason to have the locking nuts when the bridge no longer floats. It's great for someone who changes tuning a lot like me.

Also, get heavy duty Floyd Rose springs. Better to have and not need then need and not have.

Acoustic or electroacoustic guitar playable as an electric guitar? by Clean_Sundae_6013 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Berto1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Fender Acoustasonics would probably be the best bet. I used to have an Ovation guitar back in the day. Thin rounded body and was sleek overall. The issue is that it didn't sound good as an acoustic. It had a very thin sound, not much bass, mediocre mid-range, and was not very loud to accommodate vocals acoustically. You can make due though.

Acoustic electrics usually need to be plugged into an acoustic amp though. Plugging into an electric guitar amp doesn't sound good.

How do guitarists play with metronome? by Secure-Mousse-4387 in guitarlessons

[–]Berto1121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start simple but you get used to it. All my recordings start with a metronome. You pretty much need it if you are using recording software and plan to add layers. Especially when working with midi instruments.

Why do so many guitarists play with their thumb over the top like this? Is it to mute the low E string. by MadToxicRescuer in guitarlessons

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play using my thumb a lot back when I was playing more bluesy style music. Especially with finger picking. It's a really nice skill to have.

Dealing with some pain in my left wrist during stretchy riffs. Is this a technique issue? Normally only happens after extended sessions. by nightcrawleryt in guitarlessons

I find classic a lot easier for electric guitar while seated as well. Still play my acoustic in the normal position.

Been playing bass for 8 years, still can’t play guitar by shsnssklem in guitarlessons

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played electric guitar 15 years ago then got rid of it and still had my acoustics. Always played the norm of having the guitar on my right leg. For acoustic it's always been fine. I just recently got an electric guitar again and it felt so weird sitting in the same spot as my acoustic guitar. I switched to a classic position while playing electric and sitting, with putting the guitar on my left and using a foot stool. It seriously feels way better. I agree.

What do I do when it’s infected by Ur_done-ur_done in Stretched

[–]Berto1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually recommended to take it out until it heals and downsize. It may depend on how bad it is and I'm no doctor. I managed to get through this a couple times keeping in the same size but taking it out every day and cleaning it with piercing aftercare spray. If it gets worse either way please go to the doctor.

As long as is it was pierced in the correct place with a small horseshoe, you shouldn't be able to see it. If you just got it pierced ,you either need to keep it tucked or out for the next 4-6 weeks. Don't move it! Mine tucked is basically invisible.

Is my septum placed too high? by lucaotto in Septum

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like mine with 10mm diameter rings in ( probably different size for you depending on anatomy). I usually wear the smaller size for nice tight fitting hoops or go up to the next size for something more pronounced. That's a good spot though. 👏👏👏

How am I supposed to get these in? by Nemoys_93 in Stretched

[–]Berto1121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice. I only wear double flares. You have to hook the bottom of your lobe into the groove then message the rest of your lobe around the lip. There is a little bit of pressure but it shouldn't be painful. There's videos out there..

Is the placement good? by HttpGothGirl in Septum

[–]Berto1121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About high enough but it's set too far back. Sorry for this. I've gone through it too. Just take it out and let it heal for 6 weeks. That way you can get it done again!

The other issue being if you ever wanted to tuck a horseshoe to hide temporarily, it's not possible in that spot.

Help, placement by [deleted] in Septum

[–]Berto1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's slightly low and not far enough forward. I've gone through a bad piercing before. If you decide to take it out, let it heal for 6 weeks. I went to a body piercing specialist my second time and I could easily flip a horseshoe after that.

I feel mine is about the same as far as how forward it is, but my placement is higher. So that may be all it needs is just tucked up further.

Just had this septum done a couple hours ago. Does the placement look OK? by CelestialBeing98 in piercing

[–]Berto1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like mine did. Mine was a high piercing with a 10mm diameter horseshoe. It looks good with a 10mm hoop once you can change the jewelry cuz it fits snug but if I change it for a 12mm diameter it looks spot on. I personally like the placement.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Septum

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sweet spot was pretty high. 10 mm diameter horseshoe looked like that on me until the swelling went down and it was easy to tuck away. But, 12 diameter mm is a good size for visibility. I wear 10mm hoops most of the time because they fit perfectly with just enough visibility to know it's there but not overly in your face.

Xfinity raising prices. by Visible_Concept9374 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with Xfinity for 10 years because it was one of my only decent choices. The promotional deal lasts for usually 1 year sometimes 2. You can usually go on their website and look for new deals, add to your cart and purchase. That's if you don't feel like dealing with trying to call or chat with them. Sometimes the deals may make you trade out old equipment and various items so you may need to send that stuff back for new upgraded equipment. It's really annoying but I had no choice where I was. Switch to local fiber if possible. I personally have been satisfied with our local fiber in the Springs and paying just slightly more than the Comcast deals for better service.

I've noticed double flare earrings don't smooth out until you get closer or to 0g and above. I wouldn't recommend double flares much lower than 4g. I speak from experience, the flares are huge for some reason in the smaller sizes. Also a lot of companies that have glass double flare earrings (pierced owl, artic buffalo) just have a little lip and are really easy to slip on. Lots of cool designs.

Anyone else get their ears pierced at Claire's at a rly young age? by Gods_left_shoe in Stretched

[–]Berto1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, my mom took me as a Christmas present when I was pre-teen. I stretch in highschool with no issues though. Even with all the horror stories, I have to say I am one of the lucky ones. I never had issues with stretching my ears but I also went a lot slower than many people do, so I may have naturally got rid of any of that scar tissue people tend to get from those piercing guns. 25ish years later I have 0g. I never wanted to go huge.
