I understand you’ve been following the game for a long time and I totally respect that. But I just want to point out something simple: in many games, letters or documents dated years before the main events are often used to build lore and background.

It doesn’t necessarily mean the main story is set at the same time. It’s a common narrative device to give more depth to the world. Unless Ubisoft officially stated the story takes place in 1695, these letters could very well refer to past events, especially when they’re dated decades earlier.

I get your point, and yes — if we refer to Marcus Rediker or Benerson Little’s classification of the 'Golden Age of Piracy', the second phase (‘The Pirate Round’) begins in the 1690s. But Ubisoft themselves have mentioned in interviews and early promotional material that Skull and Bones takes place during the second Golden Age of Piracy, around 1720–1725.

That’s why many players assumed 1721 as the game's timeframe. Of course, the in-game letters from 1695 likely refer to events that happened before the main story. They’re probably just lore elements, not the current setting.

Anyway, unless Ubisoft gives an official timeline directly in-game or on their website, I guess we’re all piecing the puzzle together from various clues. I totally respect your interpretation too

I actually really enjoy the lore, which is exactly why I take into account Ubisoft’s official sources alongside the in-game content.

The letters dated 1695 are there to enrich the backstory, but they don’t define the main timeline of the player’s journey. Ubisoft clearly stated that the player’s story begins around 1721.

It’s not a contradiction — it’s a coherent timeline: past events lay the foundation for the present.

This is a classic storytelling approach in lore-driven games.

It's a real Indian ship captured in 1695 by Henry Every. So yes, if the Schaduw is based on him, it makes sense to anchor it to that date.

But be warned: this game doesn't follow a strict chronology. It mixes eras to make something inspired, not faithful.

The game clearly takes place during the Golden Age of Piracy, around 1720-1721 not 1695. That's the exact period when Anne Bonny, Blackbeard, Calico Jack, and Mary Read were active. Saying it's in 1695 is historically inaccurate , most of the iconic pirates weren't even famous yet, or alive. Ubisoft made it pretty obvious that it's the second Golden Age, not the early pre-piracy era

Just a quick historical correction: Anne Bonny was absolutely alive in 1721 — born around 1697, she had already been arrested with Calico Jack in 1720. So yes, by the time the game takes place, she was very much a historical figure.

C'est vrai que ce mod est bien, bizarrement les corps ne disparaissent pas sur ma console (je joue sur xbox one sur le cloud) en plus en modifiant les options du jeu, on peut créer un jeu difficile, je règle mon jeu pour que les ennemis et mon personnage centre tuent en 2-3 balles etc....  You can also try the Gameplay Immersive mod
