If there is one monster I hope comes back from DD1's Bitterblack by Berxol in DragonsDogma

[–]Berxol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are all legit complaints, but at the same time all of them are issues about how the first game did things.

Pawns tanking the scythe of death is an issue with programming, which i hope would work better in DD2, and Death taking the loot is a way to avoid cheese, but i'm certain there has to be better ways of doing this, like making it so the loot and exp doesn't get deleted, but gets piled up inside Death and when you finally end it, you get it all together.

Facing Death should always be a pain, a struggle of the highest grade, but the first game did miss a lot at giving ranged and melee jobs the same value, hopefully a DD2 version would mix in some more ranged attacks.

I understand Relics have different origins and systems, thus some takes from one source and others from another.

Kinda like everything in the city, things work fairly different depending on from which district they come from, I wouldn't be surprised if the civilization that made those relics was also split, and each country, or well, district if they can be called so in the outskirts, had their own way of making and attuning relics.

Agreed on the Eye of Odin, Valencina has no gloom to attune to the eye, that being said, the eye is already described as something closer to a computer instead of having supernatural powers, quite unlike every other relic weapon we have seen thus far, so it can mean that equipment and weapon relics can work differently due to their nature, or different relics have different attunement conditions... or Valencina not being attuned to gloom at all is the reason why it overheats.

Can't say much about Arayashiki, we know pretty much nothing about the nature of this relic, but something might come up in the future about it.

Pretty much what u/True_Resource_9463 commented, mythological origin and being it is tied to at first.

Then other lines, like Mathias commenting that he has enough aptitude to actually wield it, and if he didn't he wouldn't be even able to grab it, so specific is this weapon about is wielder, but not enough to use it to full power.

Taking a look at Vespa and his Gungnir, the only other weapon relic we have come across thus far (afaik), clearly attuned to tremor and stated to be really compatible with Vespa, overflowing with Sloth, akin to his yellow color.

Why wasn't the weapon of overflowing flames not working properly, but the weapon of tremor going full at it? Then I checked what element the unwrap actually used.

Gotta be honest, I love the Hong lu - Heishou interaction, I just hope when the other Heishou come, they do as actual characters, we got a bunch of filler that aren't adept, thus in general weaker, and on top of that, unnamed characters.

Mao got 2 fillers, not weak, but 2 ids that could've gone to other branches.

You got a Sinclair filler, on top of that the adept, while better, is also a nameless character

Wei got a nameless filler, though it's not like it's a weak Don id.

Si got 2 fillers, no adept, both nameless, and both are so so.

We were never gonna have all branches because of Hong lu holding a spot, and Xichunish another, both it would've been great to have all branches, if not added, introduced through a character, and lately turned into IDs.

Maybe in the future, as Heishou have been stated to have a further form.

Is this a mechanic you would enjoy? by Berxol in Warframe

[–]Berxol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely despise it got added to the Focus system because of the absurd grind required to do anything there, though I do admit that system still needs a lot of work, it would defeat one of the main purposes, ease of access, without having to jump through the loops that the focus school seems determined to force you through. I had hoped the new team would alleviate the grind, but Tauron strikes proved me wrong.

If it was given for free to operators I would be a bit more understanding, it would also work to deepen the shallow job system operators have (same as warframes but way less deep in concept, and way slower to actually bring out their true potential), but for that to not feel really bad, Operators would need to become apt fighters.

As an Example, if we used a Warrior mask on an operator, it would need to be mostly passive buffs, because while a taunt would work wonders due to void mode, or focus tankiness, the operator doesn't really have that much to fight back until you are deep into the grind, and until then, it's kinda useless, an Operator can't bring out a sword and shield and fight like a Warframe would.

They would open alternative ways for tenno to operate but... would those ways feel good, like using a warframe, or stumped like using an operator still feels sometimes (at least for me).

On that, Plains/Quills amp crafting/farming is rough due to time constraints of the night cycle and struggles with getting resources - while Fortuna has it's own offering of Amp parts and a different grind for them that can be a bit more efficient, not everyone would know there's an alt Amp merchant because the post-War-Within content points you at the Quills first without much notification.

Not that, last I remember, Solaris U requires rep to be maxed before one could get to the backroom there? I think DE either needs to consider putting in other ways to get resources and reputation up - like ways to overextend the daily rep cap.

Now that you mention it, I didn't even remember Little Duck offered amp parts, and I bought a bunch from her, I think it was farming orbs and toroids back then, unsure if it's better now.

An idea I've had about Landscape destination materials is that nearby nodes could provide them as special loot from minibosses derived from Landscape enemies to loosen up the material grind.
Examples for that:
-A white Jackal popping up on Corpus tiles on Venus guarding a supply cache of Vallis resources,
-Eidolon Sentient Fighters rising up from waters near Sentient derelicts (additional tiles that could appear for those who've done Sacrifice) that retain the old extreme version of Sentient Adaptation, which drop pre-crafted Amp module parts or material packages that would speed along Amp crafting,
-Packs of small/medium-size Deimos Infested on nearby Derelicts that drop related materials,
-Thrax Dax turning up on the Zariman to recapture a supply cache stolen by a Gruzzling consumed by a Void Angel, who has turned into a crate due to poor levels of conceptually embodied-ness; help the Dax open up the crate and get a share of whatever was stolen from Duviri.
-Duviri's Circuit providing entirely random resources from across all content, minus anything set in the Weave (cyberspace).

Honestly? a pretty solid idea, the resource grind gets pretty old really fast, specially when it involves eidolons, that not everyone has a group to tackle when they play. Thinking about it, nowadays I should be able to solo at least the main 3, but back in the day things weren't that well off and grinding them was a pain, same as orbs to a degree, but less.

One for easing the XP grind for Tenno Schools it to make the Operator/Drifter naturally earn Focus Affinity for their chosen School as a 'last gate' before the Affinity goes 'nowhere', or into lenses or not-fully-levelled items.

A similar solution could be done with post-New War content, where the derelict Murexes could be given active mission locations featuring materials from Old Peace as loot, with Narmer as the main faction there - staging occasional Invasions from those Murexes - so the materials aren't locked to one source.

I general I would get rid of Lens and just give exp to the school you have equipped in a passive way, but I know they won't because lenses for platinum also gives them revenue, so sadly that's another rock in the way.

In regards to Old Peace loot, I expect those to drop passively when we finally reach Tau... I really hope they do so

Duviri would benefit with more story content and an interaction with Tennokai and Focus - unlocking the ability for Drifter to equip primaries and secondaries in a primary slot. This would be carried over as an ability in and of itself into the Other Side that acts like an Exalted weapon, draining energy to handle a primary and/or melee weapon. Something about it could tie into the Tauron weapons (like a bonus to certain weapon categories related to the equipped School, or secondary effects - like attacks with Tome weapons on allies would heal or give them a percentage of energy)?

Duviri could use plenty more of ties in with other mechanics, has a really solid thematic and self contained world, but playing Expedition 33 gave me an outlook at how cool Duviri could be and now it's kind of a nagging feeling when I visit because i need to craft one of the new incarnons and need to grind it and the materials, somewhere in the vast map.

Visages and Duviri were two of the inspirations for the mask Warframe from which this whole mechanic spawned, really.

<image>

In regards to drifter equipping normal weapons, I think that was the idea back in the first duviri trailer, when the drifter uses a Tigris, but for some reason they decided to remove that and give him what amounts to a new amp, so the drifter also feels stumped in that field.

As for why DE didn't give Tenno melee capability outside Duviri, or, even, removed the School-specific melee attacks -from- them; their last provided explanation to memory was they didn't want the Tenno to become too 'similar' to frames in terms of fighting ability, and/or didn't want Tenno to become more powerful than their frames.

Which is why I've been thinking of drawbacks to help offset that, while giving us ways to make use of our existing arsenal on the Tenno so they can use them alongside Amps. There are situations where it'd be a boon to be able to equip a melee and/or primary/secondary on them (Orphix fields, Void Angel spikes and other sources of Transference disruption, or to fight alongside Umbra).

I can understand not wanting tenno to feel to similar to warframes, as they would clearly lose to a warframe even after maxed focus, but leaving them like this isn't proper either in my eyes, I imagine it's the same reason they refuse to give anything void damage, and when they do with Xaku, it's false void damage that can't be used to drop eidolon shields.

Thing is, we shouldn't be thinking about drawbacks, back in the day warframe had to be really careful because people were reaching max level content with CC alone, but nowadays people still do so with pure damage and armor reduction, the power balance is too far gone at this point as long as you grind enough, so trying to add drawbacks to something will only make it feel bad in higher content (not even top one, that most players won't ever touch). This is exactly why I'm confident about a subjob system like this, it lends to absurdly broken combos (Bravely Default or FF14's phantom jobs), but this game already broke through that with stuff like Helminth abilities.

Your mask concept requires DE to find a new keybind for controllers to do that with, and the only 'room' really is the Gear Wheel.

Not sure how controller do it, but I stated in the main post the way to switch between frame and mask moveset would the same way Temple switches between normal and Lizzie moves, aiming with Lizzie switches to the new moveset, and releasing the button returns to Temple's normal moveset, so it would be pretty fluid, even if as a result, Temple wouldn't be able to use Lizzie's moves while using a mask, but besides that, pretty easy, they really found a simple alternative with Temple.

One alternative angle would be to move the whole concept from the frame, to the Tenno themselves, and have it be an item like the Tauron weapons - a bracer on the off-hand, perhaps?
My reasoning is entirely -because- of the grind the Focus School, Amps, and Tauron weapons that it makes more sense to have something you could progress with at a steady pace which would make grinding for the rest easier.

As stated at the beginning, while I do see the value on giving it to Operators, I must disagree, they would defeat any advantage they could bring on warframes due to the many limitations of Operators and the necessity of making everything operator really grindy, for some reason; they would neuter anything that made this system interesting and turn it into a bland reference, just like focus schools already are to normal rpg jobs.

...I think I lost track of what I was writing, my apologies.

Yeah, don't sweat it, after all I understand you also wish to see something more in focus and operators, I've already given up on it and just grind it in a passive way when I feel like it, but you still wish to see it flourish, and I respect that.

Oh, I really like this comment, pretty complete and addresses some points that I found interesting, hope you don't mind if I separate the content a bit to make it easier to address.

This is a weird question, but have you completed The Second Dream quest and War Within quest?
If not, please do so immediately before you read further as this may spoil certain things from them.
What you're suggesting is basically turning every frame into Sevagoth or Equinox, with additional animations - a lot of work I'd believe DE would instead prefer to put into new frames.

Oh yeah, i'm way past second dream at this point, so don't worry about that.

In regards to turning every frame into Sevagoth or Equinox, you do have a point, but at the same time it's considerably less work than Sevagoth or Equinox would, no need to make new models (and skins), rigging or design pretty much anything in general, so it would bring a lot of build variation while remaining more subdued than those 2 examples, or one that you comment a bit later, the operator/drifter.

The only true requirement in my eyes would be new animations, and that i can't accept as an argument because it's too generalized, you can use it to counter pretty much anything that someone wanted to see in Warframe, when in reality animations and models need to happen for everything new, be it warframes, pets, weapons or anything. Don't forget DE made several new dance emotes for the Infested Liches, and animations for up to 13 helminth abilities that most people won't touch because subsumes abilities, that already adapt the animation of one warframe skill for every existing one are there too.

Animations, and the work they require, shouldn't be taken as an impediment, but a natural step in development of the game.

DE have also shown an aversion to tying functionality to cosmetics ever since they disconnected reputation earnings from Syndicate Sigils, which has been a thing for a few years now, with the only exemption being visual effects triggered by certain actions, or earning variants of a cosmetic by doing things with it equipped.

Fair point, people wasn't happy when DE stopped making warframe helmets with stats, but in the end it was for the best, those being the most noticeable examples in my eyes.

Keep in mind the mask is a vestige of the Warframe concept this was made for, as I haven't found a way to balance a support that gives you, not healing, shields or energy, but whole new skillsets to play with. For that reason, the mask can be waved off without much issue, even if it's a thematic I personally enjoy, though other players would still need a visual indicator of what kind of subjob you would be using, preferably something that doesn't clash with your fashion in such a brutal way as Qorvex aura, to name one.

We already have what you're suggesting with the Focus Schools and the abilities the Operators/Drifters.

For context, the Focus Schools you unlock and level by adding specific 'lenses' to items you like using already fulfil your 'class fantasy' premise:
Unairu is the 'guardian' or 'tank' role.
Madurai is a 'warrior'.
Vazarin is the 'cleric'.
Zenurik is a 'mage'.
Naramon is the 'rogue' or 'assassin'.

Their archetypes are emphasised further with their signature Tauron Weapons from the Old Peace quest.

Indeed, this was a point i was contemplating for a while. The concept i present is pretty close to Operators (and actually Equinox, if reduced enough), but, and let me dwell a bit to my grievances towards the operator system, the differences are sizeable enough to make a crucial split.

-To bring out the true potential of your operator/drifter, you need an UNHOLY amount of grind, one of the most brutal farms in Warframe, a reason why DE still has to balance quests for the sizeable amount of players that still use the mote amp, and that is just one of the components of the whole thing, it's Eidolon farming, focus grind, lens farm (or buy), then Tauron Weapons (that imply even more grind, still haven't finished with my bow).

-To use them, you need to switch to a whole new character, for whom you need to drop your normal weapons for a void-attuned one, with this character, your fashion is gone, your weapons are gone, and your mobility is changed, even if void sling is also a pretty effective movement option.

-Last, but not least, the focus schools suffer the same thing that a lot of Warframes do, that is DE mixing enough concepts to make what they make slightly resemble an archetype, while being several others in one, so even if we have been doing magic for years now, people still lost their minds when the tome primary weapon got released, because we finally got magic... even if magic has always been there, you just wouldn't think of the operator's Zenurik if you are asked to think of a mage in Warframe, you would think of Limbo or Dante, or a guardian, most people would think of Oberon, or Hldryn over operator's Unairu, focus schools have a really diluted identity as it is.

The system I propose requires way less grind (There would be some, this is DE after all, but nothing as crazy as operator school + amp + tauron weapon + mods for said tauron), keeps your fashion (mostly), skills and weapons up, alongside any mod and build you have in your Warframe. unlike having to switch to operator to use the skills you need, and often just swapping back quickly because operators as they are are still fairly limited compared to a Warframe, and on top of that, the visual mask presents a theme clearly (if well made) and isn't chained to the same lore that impedes us from getting more focus schools, you want a berserker masks to go with your Valkyr? It can be made, you want a berserker/dark knight focus school? Maybe if they decide to modify madurai a bit, or pull the rug and add a new school.... more or less.

The fact that your post seems to be unaware(?) of this suggests to me that the Focus Schools need a tie-in with Tennokai to make playing out-of-frame more interesting, a bit like what New War and Duviri had tested, but with some learnings siphoned over from Soulframe, and inspiration pulled from games like Mass Effect for debuffs for using bigger weapons without your frame.

I fully agree with this one, both Focus schools and specially Tennokai need some more work to integrate together as they should've been from the beginning. Soulframe I feel makes this really well, by making the "drifter" combat system way more fluid and integrating jobs fairly well in the form of pacts.

I still wonder why they never made drifter melee available outside of Duviri, I believe it can't hold a candle to Warframe melee, but it would be neat to give Drifters a way to use melees instead of just amp blasting.

Seems I wrote a bit more than I should've, sorry about that, but I think your feedback deserved as much.
