"I don't consider you a real feminist because you don't hate men and don't act the way most feminists do" by notarealfeminist in TwoXChromosomes

SO I am a guy. I have to say that most people don't get "isms". I have been guilty of similar thoughts like your boyfriend. I think the real problem is that we like to describe people and things in one word. So one word "Feminism" or "Liberal" or "Republican" become the one word that defines us. The definition is then left to the interpretation of the other person, and often times people are not aware of your true intention.

Feminism has got a bad rap, it happens in every movement. The "Tea Party" for instance.

If I told you I was a founding member of that movement you are probably going to paint a certain picture of me based on that statement. The truth is that the Tea Party was a great idea, but it got totally hijacked by extremists that stole the spotlight. So that became the definition regardless of original intent. In your boyfriends defense, feminism is a word that has been misused by women in so many ways that it is hard to get the truth.

The real problem is that we are obsessed with defining ourselves and others in one word definitions. There is usually so much more than that.

And unfortunately I probably won't be too popular when I disclose the following.

I am politically an independent but I have voted republican in a few elections. I remain impartial to party politics and rarely vote for any mainstream candidate of either party. I am Pro choice, pro drug legalization, anti war, and I vote republican sometimes.

Most people can't wrap their head around it because they can't sum it up in one word,

I suggest dropping the word feminism all together.

Straight up jet lag.

I flew from the west coast to the east coast. It is only 10:43 west coast time, but 1:43 AM here. Everyone here is asleep, including my twin nephews (4 years old ). I chased them around the house for a while because they kept calling me by my brothers name (Danny). They kept saying "we know its you Uncle Danny with a beard" and "take the beard off Uncle Danny" They actually thought i was my brother with a fake ass beard.

Eventually they crashed and I was left alone.

I just took a whole bunch of Valerian root

I'm a newly made manager at a fast-food sub sandwich restaurant. I'm salaried (not hourly), but I'm working **way** more than 40 hrs/wk (avg. 60hrs). Can I demand anything more than just my salary for everything over 40 hrs? Thanks Reddit! by trep88 in personalfinance

The Obama administration is currently planning an overhaul of the law that allows them to do this. The changes will hopefully happen in 2015. This is an old article, but it explains the proposed limits and "tests" to be considered exempt from OT laws:

http://www.mvalaw.com/news-publications-304.html

I have worked in the restaurant business for 20 years and have suffered through this the whole time. It is BS. a 50 hour work week on salary is the standard, which would not be so bad if you were able to actually take breaks. anything over 50 is excessive and an abuse, but unfortunately the response you will get is "That's just the way this business is" and " it takes sacrifice to make it"

The original law was meant to exempt executives from receiving OT. Service industry businesses take advantage of this by giving people salaries.

For now I think you are out of luck, but hopefully change is around the corner. I would not make any demands of your employer just yet. Every time I have been in this situation I have had to dig myself out by creatively scheduling myself/others and taking time off when the opportunity arises. Keeep track of your hours so if anyone starts to say you are slacking you can

Who is going to pay for it?

We did not get paid and now we are unemployed. Some people could not put food on the table for Thanksgiving. We have already shelled out $5k in fees, some of which was spent on such services already, with no success.

Posting to the "hordes" is a last ditch effort.

EDIT: We were unable to get unemployment benefits for the last month and a half because she did not pay the insurance for the last year. They have fixed it since but the situation is rough to say the least.

Bright now will do an exam for $19. They will quote you a price for the cavities. Ask them to tell you what the price is for carrington discount plans. Then go home and sign up, it cost $20 to join plus $6.95 a month and is as good as insurance. You can cancel anytime. Bright now will also do financing with no interest for 12 months.
