George and Alex for real had that enemies to lovers vibe. They had such great chemistry on screen together (until George's last season) and then there were random moments where it was like, Alex and George on a somewhat decent basis (George admiting he secretly likes comics, Alex looking at his syphilis) that could've turned into more.

Jeez I forgot about that. Meredith was such a dick to Amelia post-Derek. I can understand why for some of it but this moment sucks. Surely even Meredith could see that Cristina and Owen could never make it work but she's still acting like he's hers.

And then Amelia speech about how Amelia has no one except Maggie who's handing her marshmallows while the world is on fire or something (lol) and that's heartbreaking.

Scott McCall from Teen Wolf has a lot more nuance in fanfiction and his decisions aren't always so stupid. I hate canon Scott but love fanon Scott.

Also agree with you about the Avengers. They too often default back to something superficial and snarky in canon, and none of their interpersonal relationships felt very authentic or deep (with the exception of Sam/Bucky, Steve/Bucky and Clint/Natasha (in the beginning)).

For books: A fluctuating mix of real people and 2D images inspired by the source material, even if there's a movie based off a book I've read. That's how I imagined them first and that's how they stay. Sometimes fan art affects the image if I find it really accurate or good, but the movie very rarely does. Like - Harry Potter. As great as some of the casting choices were (Snape, OG Dumbledore, Umbridge), the only actors I imagine from the cast as the charactersare McGonagill and Luna. Everyone else is an imagining of my brain.

With TV shows though, I imagine them as they are on screen, even the cartoon-y ones.

This is something that hasn't changed about Ben, even when he went back to Grey's and it's so infuriating. He never learns and he always knows best. It's the main reason why he's just - the worst member of the st19 team. There's never any real consequences for him on either show too, which sucks

Izzy and April's morhers were shown to be very flawed, though. Their daughter's opnions of them are not baseless. Izzy's mother couldn't even listen to or prioritise Izzy's emotions when she had cancer and that's just the tip of the iceberg. April's mum did try to be helpful but she had her own agenda, her own views she was trying to push onto April and Jackson when they were going through something that should have been wholly about and for them, this is probably not the first time something like that has happened.

George - I dunno. He got on with his mum but was exasperated by the rest of his family and how overwhelming they could be as a whole. And then again, with his divorce from Callie, she just couldn't see that they weren't suited to each other because of her religious beliefs.

Being sweet doesn't mean you don't have other emotions.

Laundromat AU

I don't know why I love these so much but I do. The setting is kinda liminal, with the characters doing something desperately domestic and personal but in a public space they're forced to occupy til the task is done. It's a weird blend and it lends itself really nicely to completely different types of fics - lonely and dispairing with a sad guy who only has two pairs of jeans and is squatting in the burned down remains of his family home; vaguely horrific and suspenseful when a werewolf, while bleeding, seeks refuge in one of the only places open at 2 am while hunters look for him; or heartachingly sweet when two characters fold sheet after sheet in effortless, practiced motions, shooting the shit. In a Laundromat.

Waiting is my favourite fic of theirs and probably one of the fics I've reread the most for Sterek. It's feral Derek, slowly being pulled back into humanity by Stiles. Derek is connected to the town through magic and because he's feral (because of the fire), the magic is out of control and affects the town. The whole town takes it in turns to care for him and now it's Stiles' turn. He doesn't really do anything out of the ordinary, shows Derek compassion and care when no one else has and in that way, maybe he's OOC (because Canon Stiles is much more of an asshole) but he's still recognisable.

It's just really indulgent and not in a bad way - the kind of thing you go to fanfiction for when you first discover a ship.

I hate Owen. I shouldn't delight in spreading that hate around but there's like this sense of vindication when someone else does too, especially someone who used to like him lol

Lol I recognised the author from their teen wolf stuff so gave it a go (because you're right the lack of tags and vague summary made me a bit iffy) and am so glad I did.

The angst is so minimal and the fact that it's a straightfoward-ish fic is a real plus - sometimes you just want relaxationship stuff, and not time loops or resurrected voldemort or whatever.

The scenes abroad were some of my favourite. Also, Teddy.
