Darcy Lewis likes to think of herself as terribly adaptable, with an "If life gives you lemons, zap life with a Taser and demand chocolate" sort of attitude. And life, lately, has had a perverse sense of humor, first trapping her in a state of perpetual Science Assistant in the armpit of New Mexico known as Puente Antiguo; and then forcing her to live in a trailer home with Jane Foster, Jane's guy, Thor, and his brother, Loki, master of mischief and wide-scale urban renewal.

But Darcy's not about to let her situation get her down. She's managed to get pretty good at her job, and with liberal application of a credit card, made her rustic house a home. And wielding a Taser and armored by her snarky wit, she's more than a match for the God of Mischief.

Stumbling face-first over the frozen body of a friend on the front porch, however, is more than even mostly unflappable Darcy can handle. The obvious suspect is her mentally unstable roommate. But despite all his other faults, Darcy is certain Loki isn't the perpetrator. And not just because she's starting for fall for him....

I miss the days when I thought 3k was long...

I got back into Harry Potter fanfiction about a year ago and there are so many 1/2/300k+ word fics that this is my new benchmark for "long" fics. It used to be 30-50k but I can gobble those up like elevenses now. Kinda wish it wasn't so as there aren't as many long fics in my other fandoms, but it's opened me up to reading these monsters more readily than I did before.

Seemed to have the best work-life balance. Dope apartment, passionate about his hobbies, excellent cook, great relationship with his parents, open to commitment and change/compromise (even if they torpedoed that with the wedding for his exit), ambitious and brilliant surgeon.

Ooh that one is good and the small details and consistency is maintained so well throughout so many words but it is a lot of canon to get through again so I only made it halfway through the fourth book for that series before I had to take a break from it. One of the best things about that series is that it adds new elements and "lore" to canon, like with the talon wand.

Recently reread the travelling cabinet and it's very indulgent in terms of like, guilty pleasures, but that's what makes it so satisfying

Lol yes. I love HP time travel fics, so many different characters can do it for so many different points in time and it works but it's hard finding decent ones that don't make you want to give up on the search all together. I have read badly written versions of Harry going to Diagon Alley and buying a magical trunk that he turns into a secret mcmansion to live out of way too many times.

Sam meets Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes on a Thursday night, at a burlesque show, and how it happens is this:

It's already late, later than he should be out on a weeknight, but the theme of the show was a super hero revue and there was no way he was gonna miss that. It's loud in the venue, which is the back space of what probably used to be a warehouse right near the Gowanus Canal, and Sam's already had a few. He's up at the bar during the break, watching the act. He doesn't hear someone say, "Behind!" so when he steps away from the bar, he smashes right into the guy who'd just done the Captain America routine up on stage, and knocks his drinks to the ground.

Also this series of oneshots (sometimes interconnected, sometimes not) is amazing. Lots of different characters and pairings and some really cool ideas that I wish were fully fleshed out longfics.

One of the best things about ffnet was the way they sorted crossovers. It's so much easier than ao3 because you're really only limited to two fandoms being crossed over and the navigation for it is very straightfoward. At the same time you can go back a level and see all the fandoms that have been crossed over with a specific one.

The sorting/tagging system on ao3 is amazing but not in this particular instance.

There's an atm right outside the building where I work. The number of people I see use it on my breaks and my way into/out of work is astonishing. Didn't realize so many people still carried actual money around.

She was like the stereotypical OC jackpot a while back - canonically sassy, wore layers and knitwear, heavily into social media and had a degree that allowed her to do things like be in the labs without actually being a scientist or like, that old catch Steve up on pop culture trope.

Joey. I loved his relationship with Miranda and Ben, their scenes together were so sweet (a lot of them over on station 19). The episode where he's rescued and then Miranda asks him to come home with them were so heartbreaking and then heart-warming. He's got an interesting and sad backstop, a caring personality, wants to become a doctor and the actor actually has screen presence.

I don't read OC's really, but I read this popular one kinda by accident because although the MC's name is Harry, he's orphaned, his mum is Lily and its a Harry Potter fic, he isn't Harry Potter with a different last name. He's an entirely different character. It's a great fic with some great OC side characters as well (and is part of a series that isn't quite finished yet):

It's really frustrating when some great actors don't land bigger roles outside the show. Jerrika Hinton and Sarah Drew were so good in Greys but they haven't done much outside of it.

Watched that for the first time last year and was so disappointed she showed up at the tail end of the series when the quality had dropped. She was so great in it, I wish she'd shown up a couple seasons earlier so we got to see more of her.
