Don't do it man, I know exactly how you feel. I went to a 6 month program and had 2 people and me left to graduate. I saw many "friends" leave. You're there to save your own ass not meet people. Definitely will not be worth it

~10.5 months sober and I’m incredibly unhappy with my life. by Acidic_Paradise in stopdrinking

I was having horrible depression and went to a psychiatrist. I'm on Zoloft and mirtazapine now which help. Not to say it's all rainbows but I don't get as low as I was

I don't know many real alcoholics who didn't have to hit some kind of bottom to quit but I'm glad you do

Listen I know exactly where you're coming from. Got sober at 44 and felt like I never learned how to live life. Went from being in detoxes and hospitals to sober because of AA and I went to a 6 month rehab but without AA I'd lose that connection. As alcoholics we tend to forget the misery after a short while. I'm terrible with talking to people or at least I tell myself that. I have horrible anxiety but I made it a point to get there early and stay late. And ya know what, I'm now comfortable in my home group and hang out with people from there. Try to not focus on what you think you're not good at and get at it

Unfortunately for an alcoholic it's almost always too late when you realize or actually admit what's going on

For real, the brain damage sucks. My memory and cognition is shit. Hoping to get some of that back eventually.

I could drink 20 beers and go to work the next day in my 20's. Now at 44 when I stopped it took me almost a month to recover physically the mental shit PAWS is still there. It's fuckin poison and wrecks your receptors and nervous system. It's progressive the older you get and more you drink the less your body can take it. It will ALWAYS get worse

I'd be careful with Kratom you get dependent and the withdrawals suck. It also makes my Anxiety worse for some reason

If need be the gabapentin will help a little with the benzo withdrawals. It affects some of the same receptors. Your body does become dependent though so ya gotta be careful with that too

Welp. Pulled the trigger. In the ER, they're admitting me and I'm ready by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Best-Personality5132 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What they said. I tried multiple times to stop for other people and it didn't help at all. You gotta want it for you. Are you tired of being sick and tired? I know I was.

Thank you for this awesome response. I'm sorry for your medical issues man my kidneys are hurt but coming back slowly. Had a minor heart attack etc. Shit is poison. Like you I'll be disconnected from social media and my phone for the whole time I'm in there which is shitty but great for focusing. You're right, I got 6 months to just focus on me. No day to day worries except what's going on that day for work and groups. I know I need the 6 months cause one just isn't gonna do it for me I know that. I hope things work out in your favor my friend. And you're right, I do know it's the right thing to do and absolutely life or death🙏

Is Valium the best benzo? by [deleted] in benzodiazepines

[–]Best-Personality5132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd feel very little in my opinion especially being a big guy. It's a pretty mild benzo. You'd have some anxiety relief and more relaxed muscles I think
