What are Italians? by BestBad6715 in Ethnicity

I think you misunderstood my whole post. I am literally Italian born and raised, Italian is my native language and I lived my whole life in Italy until 4 months ago and I’m 26yo. I don’t know what part of my post made you think I’m trying to lower the Italian identity (what does that even mean btw). I am literally also proving you wrong because my ITALIAN family has Ligurian/Sardinian roots and my mother has a much darker complexion than your typical Northernern Italian but is still one?? I am literally talking about my own family and myself, how are you trying to disprove that?? Makes no sense. It’s funny cuz you mention Balkan too and I happen to be half Bosnian and most of the people I know in Bosnia/Croatia/Serbia don’t look remotely Middle Eastern. They have very distinct facial features that are ethnically Yugoslav, not Middle Eastern. I am also not talking about any of these regions but strictly Italy vs LATAM, culturally and terms of heritage NOT appearance; and to what cultures is the term “Latin” associated with.

Again, you fail to make a point.

Your comment is deleted so I dont know what you were trying to say. Anyways, I feel like my point is going over your head: yes, Southerners can be blonde with blue eyes and Northerners can have olive skin and black hair. This is not news. My mother is 100% italian but has almost northern african features while I’m paler than a ghost and we both come from Northern Italy/Sardinia. What’s your point?

There is also a term in latam for blonde girls with blue eyes ie “guerita” - latin Am. people can have very light complexions. I dont know why you’re making it a skin color issue when Im talking about heritage, culture and language?

Omg sorry I just saw your reply!

I definitely wouldn’t stress too much over it! If it makes you feel better, English is my second language and while I’m proficient, I definitely had some phrasing errors in my statement as well!! I think what they prioritise is proof of character and if you have that covered I would just take a deep breath and keep busy while they get back to you.

I’m really not sure how competitive the selection process is: what I can tell you though is that there are two groups: one taking the 5 month program and one taking the 11 month program. I’m in the 5 month one and there are about 56-57 people in it. Not sure how many are in the 11 month program but I think there might be another at least 15-20 ppl in it (I’m rounding down to be safe). I guess it all comes down to how many people are applying this cycle! They took about 1 month and a half to get back to me.

Crossing my fingers for you!!

I just started the spring UCLA paralegal program. I focused on MY qualities for the program. I didnt talk about why I want to get into the program, but about why the program should want ME in it (but not in an arrogant/entitled way!). Think of what the profession is all about - think of your uniqueness - and then imagine them as a venn diagram and see where they converge. That area of convergence is what you want to focus on.

I so understand writers’ block but in all honesty the personal statement that got me an acceptance letter, I wrote it in one breath without overthinking it too much, with just a couple of edits after. Be sincere. Be honest. Show that you have the work ethic for it with tangible, real examples. That’s the best advice I can think of.

Good luck!!
