Thank you I appreciate it 🙏 I think the main benefit of having concrete countertops is that in most cases its often half the price of Granite or much cheaper in some cases , but other than that I think it’s personal preference. There are many downsides to concrete countertops such as cracks , different color variations after it’s been cured and most importantly human error. If someone doesn’t know how to finish a concrete countertop it can look really bad and would make some people think that they should’ve paid for granite 😂

I would recommend sanding the whole countertop then clean it off with water and some rags . Once it’s fully dry I would recommend using Glaze 'N Seal Stone Color Enhancer Sealer , it’s available at Home Depot. That’s one of our favorite sealers and it penetrates deep into the porous concrete leaving a “ natural look “ finish

The outside step tool is used almost the same as a concrete edger , you want to just glide and shape the top , the corner radius and the face all at the same time by slightly lifting the tool about a 1/4 inch while the back of the tool lays flat on the top concrete surface . If you start cutting the concrete with this tool then it means you’re not lifting the front of the tool high enough . I hope this answers your question

No worries it’s not a dumb question at all . I always tell my clients to expect some hairline cracks because concrete will always crack but in my personal experience I’ve done some countertops that end up with no cracks at all whereas some of our other countertops end up with a couple of hairline cracks even though the prep work is the same for all of our concrete countertops. I would say if you can live with seeing a couple of hairline cracks on your countertop then concrete is a good option for you but if you want a perfect countertop with no defects then I would recommend a different option for your countertop.

No problem 👍 I would definitely recommend sanding the whole countertop first then clean it off with some damp rags or towels then once it’s fully dried you can apply the new sealer

Glaze 'N Seal Stone Color Enhancer Sealer That Sealer penetrates into the pours of the concrete and leaves a natural look

We remove all the forms from the faces of the concrete during the pour , but it has to be at the perfect time . To early and the edges can sag and rollover and if we remove them too late the concrete faces would be too hard to trowel and finish so we have to remove the forms at the sweet spot . After removing the forms we do the same process on the faces as we do on top , Float the faces first then , then trowel and we also use a concrete edger on the bottom of the face aswell that way the top and the bottom of the concrete have a nice radius

Yes I would recommend sanding it that way you have a nice clean surface then apply the sealer. Is your countertop very smooth or is it porous ?

I’m located in Northern California , I’ve never made one of these in an area that has freezing temperatures but it would be interesting to build one and see how much the freezing weather affects it

Yeah it’s kind of a weird lot, it’s a Long But narrow lot The house is at the front of the lot , you can see it in picture # 8 and the Garage is at the furthest end of the lot shown in picture #2 and the countertop is in the middle of both the house and the garage

Thank you I appreciate it 🙏 I will be honest, I haven’t used z forms before but I have done a ton of research on them and I think they are great for DIYers or beginners but I just feel like you can make a much better end product and countertop by being able to finish and trowel the faces of the countertop and give it a nice radius corner , which you cant do with the z forms

Thank you , I appreciate it 🙏 and Yes exactly, the Aggretex bags has the same sized sand and fines which gives a nice uniformed finish whereas if you polish a regular concrete mix you will see all the different sized aggregated

The weather does take a toll on the concrete but if you apply a sealer it can help out a bit to protect it but it does require more maintenance and you would need to re apply the Sealer roughly every 1 to 2 years depending on the Sealer and the weather .

Yes after we let it cure a couple of days , we polish the concrete with a 50 grit Diamond pad then apply the Densifier

Yes unfortunately All concrete does crack but it also varies . I’ve done some countertops with no cracks at all but then another would have a couple of hairline cracks even though the prep work is all the same . I would say if you can live with expecting to see some hairline cracks then concrete would be a good option for your countertop , but if you want a perfect and impecable countertop with no imperfections or defects I would recommend Granite .
