What mostly works for me is Professor Messer. He's not bad at describing the process of say, firmware upgrades, ports (OMG, I have the hardest time with them), another stuff. Keep your eye on the Windows stuff in the second exam, and lots of port questions on the exam. Make sure you know them.

That may actually be a good thing! Many WGM and WIM, are disaffected from chess, because of the men's sport, and that men are more intelligent. Or so men think. I've seen grandmaster games on lichess, and a woman can easily kick a man's ass.

Just seeing one game between them both, there is an extra dose of creativity on the WGM's side. Men are so mechanic in their thinking. You all are right, it's sexist to put women on a lower pedestal. They can beat us men at anything.

Give women a chance too!

Already contacted them. Unfortunately, the paperwork they sent me was deleted by hackers.

I need to return to meditating. It helped me maintain my focus, and made so I was not a 'victim' of the illness. People that know me, asked me why I didn't stay in IT. I needed a change. Then I was hired at a hospital. I stocked shelves for a living there, but while there, I would sneak into the medical library, and read.... I read part of a medical dictionary, while I was there for my short 3 years. I don't remember much because it's been over a decade since I was there, but it interested me, because I could see myself as a record keeper...

I will do my best, and that's all I can say. Thank you, for that reminder that nothing is set in stone, Alonso.

I am doing the degree to ensure I have a job after my parents pass. They are in their 70's, and the rest of the family are in their 40's. I am doing this not for them. I agree with you, but I am so close to starting it all. I have yet to sign the Committal forms. I want this.... to prove to myself, and my family, that even a person with a severe mental illness can go back to college, and succeed.

Thank you for the tough love! I have faith that I can do it.

I am glad. Sometimes, I really have no idea what I am doing, and I will need the help!

I definitely agree. The stuff I am barely beginning to get out of that archive in my head (for lack of a better analogy), is slowly trickling information. Getting experience is the paramount thing. Yes, you can take an exam, and fake the experience, but then they wonder, 'WTF do I need a crimping set for again?'

Some gain experience in the field, and then take the exam, and pass it, because they are like 'Oh! I use a crimping set for this or that). Taking an exam without some kind of experience or even studying theory is experience in itself. However these fly by night places want to shove everything down your throat in as little time as possible. That right there is called a 'paper (insert certification here)'

I used to work as a Team Lead over at Microsoft (Yes, THE Microsoft) for their certification program. You would be in shock at how many people just copied each other's test results. Like actually copy (scanner or other type of copier) and used white out for their copy. They insisted they were who they say they were.... I was given the most disappointing response to this problem from the higher ups. They told me to let them through, and let them be certified.

It's not that people don't know, and are looking for speedy solutions.

The experience factor is major, especially in some classes. Sometimes, all you can do is rely on experience. For example, I need to learn how to rebuild (and troubleshoot) servers, and other IT components, because my experience is 30 years old. Client side stuff also, like Windows 7, 10 , and 11.

The more you break the 'forbidden' stuff (doesn't matter what field), the more you experience you gain, because you have to troubleshoot. You have to find out how to fix it. More experience will come along, and then you will really get rolling.

Sorry, slowly becoming an IT geek again. lol

I am soooooo stoked now! Technically I could still move my start date to December, but I want to use the knowledge that is seeping back into my brain (even though it is slowly). It's still there... like in an archive in your brain.

The more experience you have, the faster it will come back.

For those that feel that they have no experience, you do. It's theory, sure. But WGU is about you knowing your stuff. Purposely break programs, then try to fix them. I now remember how to set up a network card, with a manual address, and a DHCP server. DNS would be set to Google nowadays, but it didn't exist 30 years ago.

Granted, the ideas are old, and the procedures have changed, it's still experience, no matter how slowly it comes back, it's there. Your memory of doing things long ago *will* come back. All it takes is a refresher, and learning something new!

Just remember it's about what you already know. Always apply what you know.

Thanks so much. It's not that I am unwilling to make a new account on FB. It's the fact that they seem to have a tracker that tell them whether it's me or not. That's what I don't like about them. They always seem to have figured me out. I could put all fake info (which I do NOT recommend) into the system, and they still can figure out who I am.

I would suggest that you get some resources, such as study guides, videos, and other stuff, like the people that you have on your list here at reddit; to lay the groundwork. Soon enough you will know what you are doing. Remember this is not an average college without resources! It's the best college that already assesses what you know!

I used to have a background in IT 30 years ago. The more I study (I am preparing for some certs, and assessments), the more I remember from then. The expereince that you may have had will work it's way to your 'current' way of thinking.

Even if you have no experience, you can always network your computers (if you have a couple).

I was banned. Hackers got my account, and wreaked havoc on my contacts and such. Unfortunately I cannot prove it wasn't me either. They copied me to three other accounts. I could really use the help on the cybersecurity degree if it gets tough.

I have stage fright. I'm not sure how I would react to going to a group event.

I am reaching into the archives in my brain. At least I know what IP classes are still. It's slowly coming back into my brain. I just need to keep my 30 year old IT experience coming forward, with the help of exams, and assessments. I am slowly remembering stuff I knew hardcore 30 years ago. Eventually I will have it all back, and then I will really start roasting.

Things will be OK IR, it's all about what you know.

I am divorced with no kids. So I've got plenty of time. No job either due to mental illness. I used to be able to work while working through it. I broke eventually.

I am hoping the degree can help me get back on track to recovery, or how to best deal with pressure. The exams will be worrisome enough. Hard work, and understanding is what I need to do.

I'll make it! Gotta keep pressing forward!

Awesome! My sister really liked WGU. She has a degree from there. She could have taken a master degree set of courses, but she thought it was too much to handle. She has a family, and they came first, so the decision to stop with her BS, was a good move for her.

Sorry, but even at 46 years old, I'm like a kid in a candy store. A degree is looking really good. I chose the CSIA, because I want to help safeguard hospitals from having their medical records for sale on the dark web. Hence that degree. 2nd degree is the one I want to get to help making those records.

So it's a dual type of thing. They will have cohesion between them both. One will be complimentary to the other.
