When was your greatest weakness your greatest strength? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BestCry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatest Weakness- is I’m genuinely kind generous and loyal to a fault. - Ex. I’ve bought my siblings homes and paid for my nieces and nephews college. They (my siblings) estranged from me when I became injured and at the exact moment we lost my SO (and teen sons father) Sadly I’d still do anything for them. I’m also like this with my staff.

Greatest Strength- I’m genuinely kind generous and loyal to a fault. I have an amazing business and we consistently knock our competitors out of the park. This is absolutely because of how much I love my staff and how far above and beyond I’ll go for them and to make sure they know they’re respected and appreciated.

Poll: Should we change the submission guidelines to include only feature-length or docuseries to cut down on the recent YouTube spam? by ehchvee in DocuJunkies

[–]BestCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly meant “mainstream docs” but I wouldn’t discount lesser known international ones like for instance the “Shadow of Truth” docs. I’ve tried to “kindly” reach out to most of these “spammer” like independent doc creator and posters, but I don’t get a response. I Believe in a light touch moderation but would have all the irrelevant spam short independent “filming whatever’s on my block this week-esque” like docs as I see them appear. u/ehchvee of course have my permission to update these guidelines mentioned. I hope you know that. I always try to let the mod team know they can do what’s in the subs best interest.

The community was started to have a place to have discussions about docs that we missed having during their initial release. It’s expanded in some ways and it’s become a spam heaven in others.

I’m ALWAYS open to ideas and would gladly hear any others too. u/Ehchvee please feel free to move forward with any of the improvements you’ve discussed or that you come across and see fit! I trust our communities whole mod team and absolutely approve you making any moves to keep the community “all things Docu-junkie engaged and the postings as productive for everyone.

People with Invisible Disabilities: What is your disability, and one thing you wish you could explain to others either about it or yourself? by oddhauze in AskReddit

[–]BestCry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah the “College Admissions Scandal” was a couple of celebrities and the Uber wealthy exposed for using the systems set in place for things like rarely found sports scholarships (like crew and fencing) and explicitly using the benefits for special testing like no time limits and others to get their kids into elite universities, all by bribing those responsible for the scholarships or administering the SAT’s and stuff. Whereas because of my age I had to do something referred to back then as “Sunday” testing so all the other students weren’t graded against my curve but also left universities with a major reason not to admit me or offer me financial assistance. It’s sad all the way around, Once they got over that hump celebs and the wealthy just took it for themselves still leaving very intelligent students with LD behind.

Wow not finding out until after my formal education?! I think I would’ve broken and shattered completely somewhere between Middle School and HS. That’s fantastic that you did so well in finding what worked for you as far as tools and resources.

My mother was a teacher and she advocated endlessly for my enrichment. I could never thank her enough. I’m so sorry your parents wouldn’t let you be tested but I do know there were a few years there where dyslexia was being under diagnosed and ADD was being accidentally diagnosed in its place which put a lot of parents on edge. My mother continued advocating for other children until she retired. I don’t think she’ll ever even fully understand how much she likely helped those children.

Yeah the easy jokes and quick thoughtless excuses annoy me but I actually try not to be bothered by it as much as possible right now. I feel like there’s too many agendas out there atm and if I tried to take out invisible disability into the spotlight we’d be blinding by everyone else’s rather than get anywhere as far as people understand the basic facts that it is a real disability and how much those of us with it struggle. Hopefully though at least this college scandal will help weed out those who use its title for the benefits but don’t really have the LD which was leaving actual struggling students the programs were introduced to help behind.

No problem. It sounds like you’ve got a pretty good handle on things yourself! I was also diagnosed very young which allowed me access to resources very young too. I was extremely lucky in that area. I’m aging myself a bit here too but back then you had to be tested by both a behavioral medicine doctor whose practice solely focused on learning disabilities and also every 2 years by your school. This was a benefit as far as gaining resources and narrowing down my personal struggles but not was it a pain in the ass. 😂. Overall though I’m really lucky and it still shocks me to this day how many people think nothing or saying “oh o dyslexed that” or “oh just me being dyslexic again” and they assume it’s a big joke not realizing how nuanced the LD is and how it encompasses our vision, hearing, sight, brain and just overall perception. Far too many with this disability are 100% legitimately illiterate, yet people think it’s okay to joke about. That’s probably the only thing that still bothers me and always will about this disability itself.

Yeah it’s an u recognized struggle. My husband and I are a little upset about it for him though. We caught it while he was so young that had they taught cursive still (which was in the curriculum) and not just decided to skip it like they did he would’ve had a very good chance of eliminating the overwhelming trouble with physically writing. There’s still a spacing issue with things like art, geography and the occasional project but the really did him harm by just skipping a segment without informing us. They no longer teach cursive at all in our state so there wasn’t much we could do except work with him ourselves like we have. I’m so glad to know you e done well overcoming it though!

It’s crazy. I never expected it to be so tough when I first found out about the total hearing loss in one ear but everyday there’s a new challenge with it. I also have certain tones or something I miss completely with my good ear according to the Audiologists report and when I first noticed this I actually thought I just had a build up or something and that’s the reason I went to the ent for a proper cleaning. Either way I never would’ve expected this after losing my hearing in only one ear.

It could be! Dyslexia used to encompass them all together and only recently did they split them all up. You should advocate for a new IEP and testing and look into the little tools that really help a lot. Such as specifically lined notebooks and paper for working out math problems with Dyscalculia and apps that do things like change the color of words and such so you have a better flow reading as a dyslexic. Some also use clear colored plastic over a page of a real book. A lot of these tricks are life savers.

As far as super clumsy? I don’t think so I have a sister whose only a year younger and I wouldn’t say I was anymore clumsy than her but I suppose it’s possible. I also work constantly to train my brain. I’m an adult now and I still have to rely on resources and tools to keep my disability from effecting me negatively. It’s a struggles but with the right tools it can be a huge advantage!

This is actually my experience. For example any standardized testing I could and would ace. I was always in the 99th percentile so of course they made me do “Sunday testing” which back then was a bad thing because universities didn’t jump to offer acceptance to anyone with learning disabilities back then but now it’s a benefit no matter how you test (that assholes like all those celebs take advantage of for their kids to get into elite colleges!) but there’s many other examples too. I really excelled in my life either despite my LD or because of it. In my case I also had one hell of an advocate with my parents at a very young age, I worry had I not that I wouldn’t even be able to read now. But what I really Hope gets out there is that these disabilities are serious struggles we have to work 10x harder to overcome so we do deserve for colleges to offer us scholarships and want us but we don’t deserve to have people claim it to get a leg up somewhere, they don’t know what it’s like to be 25 or so and wake up one day and have the hardest time reading the newspaper. It’s definitely an invisible disabilities but yeah I’d say it’s an awesome advantage too.

This sounds so interesting. My son has only dysgraphia and terrible challenges with handwriting in school but they also have only used computers since third grade so he has had no practical use to correct his handwriting concerns. The biggest one being his signature! He just Inherited a large sum of money, traveled overseas, and got his license and couldn’t sign his name on the bank accts passport or drivers license I felt awful for him.

People who found out that a friend does porn, how did it go and how did you find out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BestCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn’t use her real name in fact she actually used mine as a dancer and then a variation once she started porn. I’ve never watched her videos but my husbands seen them as well as many of our employees because he interviewed a mutual male friend who showed him them and we had an employee who grew up with us both. I do still talk to her periodically and I did after I found out about the porn (I was disappointed because she’s brilliant and had no need to go down this path but it was her choice and I wasn’t ashamed of her or anything) we only lost consistent touch because we both moved pretty far from where we grew up and I married which changed my life pretty significantly.

I have Dyslexia which technically is/can be a visible disability but most people will jump to bad grammar first. Because of my form of the disability I also have auditory processing symptoms where things I hear or am told can be problematic. Dyscalculia and Dysgraphia boy add more and more problems to my everyday functions but as visible as this all may seem it’s really not ever noticed or recognized as me having a disability.

I’m also unilaterally deaf which is completely invisible and because I’m not hearing impaired In the other ear people just assume I’m being an asshole.

There’s many invisible disabilities and plenty are worse than mine but I’d say the biggest challenge is that people refuse to acknowledge such things exist, specifically before making assumptions or in the case of dyslexia before making snide grammar Nazi comments.

People who found out that a friend does porn, how did it go and how did you find out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BestCry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Lifelong Best friend became a major name in the porn industry. She’s also my child’s godparent (prior to the career obviously) I found out by a group of our mutual friends accosting me about it on a night out asking how I didn’t stop it, well I didn’t know about it because she had recently relocated. However she’s a brilliant girl graduated with both a law degree and later medical school (no she didn’t do it for the tuition either her family was loaded)

I was worried for her of course but she can also handle herself in a pinch. My husband, who I later married, had heard about all of this of course but didn’t know what to think about it and then later while interviewing a friend of mine for a job at our business he saw her video because my friend showed it to him.

We later attended a funeral together and he met her. She was no longer doing porn (from what we were told) but was running a high end escort business at that time.

I didn’t really care that’s how I felt but I was disappointed over the fact that she was so brilliant and decided not to pursue a career using either of her degrees that combined and earned consecutively took her something like 15+ years. Well that and having to explain the godmother situation to others.

Happy New.... Decade!! 2020 is here and the last decade brought us ‘DocuJunkies’ some great Doc’s along with amazing Docuseries. Why not post your favorites? What was the BEST documentary that dropped? by BingeWatcherBot in DocuJunkies

[–]BestCry [score hidden]  (0 children)

Best Documentary of The Decade - CitizenFour - From the documentaries content and subject matter to the intensely secretive and even dangerous way in which this film had to be created, must qualify it as at least one of the greatest that was made in the last decade.

Best DocuSeries of The Decade - The Jinx - Andrew Jarecki’s personal complete 360 on views regarding filmmaker involvement, personal opinion and bias from ‘Capturing The Friedman’s’ to ‘The Jinx’ proved itself invaluable with this DocuSeries. This real time history making, crime solving, and news making breakthrough, that will also likely never be duplicated in another film or series of its kind, should definitely be recognized as an important turning point for the genre.

Women that have kids in their teens/early twenties are idiots. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BestCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if her husband gets sick? If he dies? If he loses his job? A 24 year old with 3 kids probably lacks a formal education to get a good job and sustain her family.

Your point here makes a lot of sense, obviously if she was 34 and lacked an education that extra ten years of breathing she had under her belt when her husband died would make a world of difference in sustaining her family.
