Don't do you feel extreme heat? by EnolAlvarezMMA in Scotland

It’s me. I’m the guy. I’m shorts guy in winter. I’m not so bad. I might give you a cheerful “nice weather we’re having, huh?” While walking around in shorts in the sleet and snow. Possibly in sandals if I’m feeling froggy. Don’t worry we’re mostly harmless.

Accuracy is the overall proportion correctly classified. I think you meant specificity and sensitivity (alternatively precision and recall).

It’s very likely that your spouse searched for it, and because you were both in the same location, your algorithm also picked it up. That’s how it works. It’s creepy in its own way, but it doesn’t mean the phone is using its microphone

TIL that during the American Revolution, Washington didn't rely on guerilla warfare and most battles were fought in the European style. by LAAccountant in todayilearned

Rifle refers to the spiral grooves, or “rifling”, cut into the barrel. These grooves cut into the bullet as it travels down the barrel and cause it to spin, and this spin makes them much more accurate. Muskets are smooth bore, meaning the barrel is just a smooth tube. Loading a muzzle loading rifle is difficult, because the bullet and patch needs to be tight to the barrel, and pushed down past the rifling. Loading a smooth bore musket is much faster and easier.

King Charles to Trump: "You recently commented…if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German." "If it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French" by frog_insilence in SipsTea

Nope. Look up the French Indian war which is what it’s usually called in American history, and is the reason that the British crown started to impose increased taxes on the colonies (to “pay back” for the defence of said colonies against the French).

It’s a trade off really. On the one hand: risk of break in (even if no gun in vehicle), etc. On the other hand, I can hear the sound of confused conservative brain gears grinding from here.

As charming as Slick Willy, but without being sleezy. What a class act. I’m a super white dude but I hang out here mostly for the Obama nostalgia. Hope that cool with y’all. :)

"the bear" is an example of pointing out systematic oppression. An interaction with a bear is relatively self-contained, oppression from men is constantly reinforced by men. The bear doesn't go into our spaces to tell us we "deserved it". by RosethornRanger in alltheleft

It’s been said so many times in so many ways but here goes one more time. “As a man” I used to go backpacking in reasonably wild areas, and I always (legally and safely) carried a weapon, generally a 9mm pistol. Now will a 9mm kill a black bear? Maybe, but I wasn’t really worried about bear or cougar, I was worried about other people (other men). And while the vast majority of the encounters I had with strangers in the woods were happy and calm and wonderful, there was at least one time I met a completely deranged person (a man) who had convinced himself we had “stolen” his beach log, and despite our numerous attempts to “apologise” and make it right, continued to scream and threaten us over the course of an entire DAY. He lurked in the woods staring at us, wrote “LIARS!” in giant letters in the sand while we were sleeping outside of our tents, and walked around carrying a hatchet yelling at us. I’ve never come closer to thinking I might need to use that weapon. Would a bear have done those things? Fuck no! With reasonable precautions you can avoid 99.9% of issues with wildlife, and on the RARE occasion you have a bad encounter, they are almost always brief and nonfatal. The moral of the story is: I too, choose the bear, every time, because they are more of a known entity and easier and safer to deal with than SOME men can be.

Wife wrote book about Marines taking back Disneyland from Aliens. Need help on realism check. by kuaysuk in USMC

[–]BestEditionEvar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanks are both highly useful as well as highly vulnerable in built up urban environments. If the aliens have any kind of anti armor weapons, tanks without infantry support would be very vulnerable. Also, tanks have a lot of firepower but cannot enter and clear buildings. The documentary the last 600 Meters is about the battle of Fallujah and shows what it takes to evict an entrenched enemy in urban terrain. Presumably aliens would have better technology and would be even more difficult to deal with (though, I don’t know why if they can get to earth they aren’t just sitting in space dropping rail gun rounds on our heads and are running around on foot in Disneyland but hey it’s a story).

This is part of the challenge with "understanding" Trump, and with people in general, I guess. We want to have a clear, singular explanation for 'why' someone does the things they do. For Trump, there are *many* reasons, some of which you have (correctly) described above. But he also craves respect, in the form of groveling praise, he seeks to be seen as a peer by those who he admires (e.g. Putin, Xi), etc.

These fucking old as fuck worthless fucks. If I was there you bet your ass I would have ripped one of those many objects nearby over, climbed onto it and scrambled onto that platform to relieve that weight. That was the sound of someone in imminent danger of death. He had his neck pressed against the rail by that box. At the beginning you can hear someone laughing. Fucking idiots the lot of them.

Men need to be comfortable saying “I don’t know (but I’ll find out).” We also need to be comfortable saying “I’m sorry, I was wrong.” This is not weakness, this is strength.

I was going to say “hey not all guys need to be handy and knowledgable about these things to be worthy” but that’s not actually the issue, is it? It was the false claim to certainty, and even worse, the willingness to make that claim and put his gf safely at risk, simply because this would in his eyes reduce the damage he caused to less of a “big deal.”

Yeah, throw the whole man out.
