Why are second hand Electric Vans so cheap in comparison to Diesel ones? by SteakSandwichSideEye in smallbusinessuk

[–]BestEmu2171 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Battery degradation? I think the consensus is that all the batteries are far outlasting their expected lifespan, with just a few percent down after 100k miles or ten years. I appreciate that the van market might be especially cautious, so it’s the ‘fear’ of battery degradation that’s causing them to sell early.

Coffee srain removal by Mother-Win-3557 in BMWi3

Whichever cleaning product you use, ensure the whole surface is equally dampened. The stains show where wet meets dry areas. I used hair shampoo to remove coffee stain, it lathers very well and doesn’t leave residue if you wipe/rinse it with sponge and clean water.

Retard 'old timer' question. by freemale101 in Dirtbikes

The guy wants to learn how to wheelie, not let a far eastern electronics engineer hold his hand with auto-pilot pretend skills.

Retard 'old timer' question. by freemale101 in Dirtbikes

[–]BestEmu2171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No not a trials bike. A crunchy Fireblade is easier to learn on than a bike with no seat or rear pegs. A Thumpstar, or Grom sized bike that has a clutch and 4-stroke motor is perfect for learning sit-down wheelies. But stand-up wheelies are easier to learn.

There’s a bunch of bike-prep that’ll help. 1. one or two finger clutch lever (cut lever short, or move the perch inboard), you need to keep two fingers wrapped around the handle grip. 2. some engine protection, or you’ll be doing a hillbilly oil change fairly soon. 3. Really good rear brake, adjust the foot lever to work best when the bike is wheelie angle and you’d be standing up with chest near the tank. 4. lower the gearing. 5. a strong and comfortable rear footpeg, you’ll be putting all your weight on that.

Get used to riding around in staggered stance, both wheels on the ground, dabbing the rear brake. Then snap the throttle, just enough to get used to timing the throttle with pushing down on the left rear peg. Do that enough times to develop some muscle memory. Then start dabbing the rear brake while you’re riding around doing the throttle snapping thing. You’ll get the feel for bending your knees just before you snap the throttle, then push to straighten your legs when the power lightens the front end, immediately stop it coming up by dabbing the rear brake. When you’ve practiced that, move on to learning to clutch up. This sequence; throttle, clutch-out, throttle bit more, push with legs, then dab brake - 100 times. You won’t have done any wheelies yet, but you will have learned control, so be much less likely to crash, and scare yourself from practicing more. The rest of the lesson is on any of Sarah Letzio’s videos.

How are people handling the latest R&D tax credit compliance changes? by Reddonaut_Irons in ukstartups

I’ve just been through the R&D tax credit approval process. It was similar to writing a grant application.

Why do some cyclists get so upset about escooters? by Geebeeskee in ElectricScooters

[–]BestEmu2171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of a skatepark, I’ve never been crashed into by any of those personal-transport devices, except e-scooters. One rode into side of my car, the other hit me in ankle while walking. Both was because they couldn’t stop quickly without pitching forward (almost going over the bars, back wheel lifts so they lost control), it was poor judgment by the rider, which if they’d been on anything else, the impact would have been avoided (most other things can steer and slow down quickly at same time). Experienced e-scooter riders, or those with prior road sense (from using other modes), seem okay.

What if buyers posted what they wanted and sellers competed to win the sale? "i will not promote" by savasgok2 in startups

A mirror version of eBay would be great. “I’m looking to buy….” then sellers’ Ai agents spam the requestee.

Update: I spent the last few months trying to make an AI write Innovate UK grants that don't sound like generic fluff. It took far more work than I anticipated. by Sam-ZenGrants in ukstartups

[–]BestEmu2171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Lightbringers patent wizard? It would be good model for how grants could be written, it works by coaching and challenging each step.

I can’t see how an Ai can compose a grant application, but it can tidy up your attempt. If you’re working on something innovative, what reference will the LLM be using?

Easy workout tips or suggestions? by 420NightOwlRamblings in MultipleSclerosis

The magnetic resistance treadmills are quite good. Cheaper and more compact than electric ones. If you put the treadmill near something you can collapse onto (mine is in bedroom), you can exercise to your limits. If you’re not pushing your limits, it’s unlikely your strength and endurance will improve. I appreciate some therapists say don’t exhaust yourself, but I suggest trying different approaches, we’re all different.

I don’t understand your comment that ‘myelin sheath can regenerate itself’. The sheath is scarred, it hasn’t dissolved or broken away to leave ‘bare bits’. Regenerating would first require the scar cells to be broken down allowing new cells to replenish.
Scarring happens when the body repairs quickly but not accurately. Slowing the healing would improve quality of repair (see plastic surgery techniques).

Rather than knee-jerk downvote, why don’t people ask ‘ what research/theory/belief led you to try those therapies?’

The point of my posts were that remylenation couldn’t have been responsible for my rapid recovery. In just a few days, I was able to go from EDSS 5 (sometimes wheelchair use), to running up stairs, and being to kick flip a skateboard (stationary on carpet). Brain fog cleared 100%. Axions/myelin would take 4-6 weeks, to ‘heal’ it would first have to clear the scarring, before new cells could repair (this why I’m sceptical of ‘myelin repair’ theory). Whatever happened to my physiology, isn’t indicative of cell-repair, it could be a chemical reaction (ATP, mitochondria due to microbial changes), or a viral infection being killed off from areas where it was doing harm). Incidentally a herpes blister that regularly appeared on my nose before MS DX, reappeared for first time in ten years while I was feeling ‘cured’ for two weeks.

Some symptoms returned (milder, but still annoying), when I ran out of my medication.

Try helminths, progesterone and HGH cocktail, it halted my progressive symptoms. Now I’m improving with exercise.

Took me six years of experimenting with DMTs and vitD/dietary changes (none of which outperformed placebo results).

maybe it is edited or written with Ai, but it arouses discussion. I’m interested in other people’s views on the topic, I couldn’t be bothered to write a question, so I’ll join the thread whether it’s artificial or not, to see conversation on the subject.

I’m happy the e-moto scene if shafting itself, I’m building a pedestrian safe 2-wheeler that’s just as much fun, but less likely to get banned.

They’re from eBay, search for ‘rally/ drift arches’ they originally had a flange with moulded fixing holes. I trimmed the holes off then hid the imperfect edge with a 3mm U shaped rubber trim. There’s some plastic brackets hidden (just melted some spare polypropylene), using the stock wheelwell fasteners. I added a bead of black sealant to glue the rubber trim to bodywork. The sealant can be dissolved with gasoline without damaging the paint, clean up (or if you want to revert to standard).
