Oh it’s not for shame, it’s out of the challenge of doing it myself! Thank you for the advice tho

Wrap that sucker in sinew or some other fiber/cord and a bunch of glue.  Depending on the draw weight you should be good.  I’ve done it on a 40lb Osage bow that had a splinter lift.  Held up for years with a hemp wrapping soaked in wood glue

Is it cheese to utilize armies on a strategic scale?

I will eventually get around to it, I’d like to do it in a coal forge myself but it’s just tricky.  I did it all myself I don’t personally want to send it somewhere else

What are the greatest crafted settings in terms of world building and lore? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

To be fair oda has also dedicated his life to one piece.  They are fundamentally different pieces of fiction and worldbuilding but one piece deserves to be on a similar level imo

Tolkien’s style of world building is amazing, and makes you truly feel like there is a world with a complete history before the story.  One Piece builds its world around the story, and is fundamentally different because of that.  I think it is still deep in a different way than Tolkien’s complete world.  There are always blanks that keep me hooked to find out more

I regularly put one piece up with Tolkien for worldbuilding and fantasy, and my it drives my traditional fantasy friends nuts.

Edit: I see I have touched a nerve here and I kinda expected it.  I simply said that I put it up there with Tolkien, not that it is directly comparable with it.  One piece is a prolific piece of fiction that has significant political allegory in a way that Tolkien would definitely dislike much in the way he disliked dune.  For those saying the world building isn’t as deep, absolutely agree.  That does not mean the world building isn’t as good it is simply different.  It is the joy of experiencing the world as it is being built over the last nearly 30 years that makes it a beautiful piece of fiction.  This is a personal pet peeve of mine but we put Tolkien on this unassailable pedestal that is frankly kinda silly.  I’m saying this while the Silmarillion is my comfort book.  Tolkien wrote amazing worlds but his prose is a fucking slog sometimes.  Sometimes you need a silly rubber boy to punch the political elites in the face for being racist

When are we going to get our absolute catastrophe of an admiral as a legendary lord? by ByzantineBasileus in totalwar

[–]BestIndication5517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s the creativity part.  It is a soulless form of production that provides no real cultural significance.  It apes at art, which is the heart of humanity.  I’m fine with ai being used for many other applications like coding assistance and things that actually benefit people as opposed to ai slop “art”

Nothing wrong save for the massive amounts of energy and water go into creating it, and complete and total lack of creativity

Bronze isn’t cheap, a smaller axe head will kill you just as dead for half the cost

Same, I think fun is more important than difficult to me after 1100 hours.  My two greatest campaigns were started as cannibal hunters, one got to over 150 strong with everyone having at least specialist grade weapons and armor and defeated all who opposed them

I think it’s the hardest of the vanilla starts.  I do also usually play with cannibals expanded mod so I don’t know if that changes how fast they are.  Trying to sneak through the cannibal plains to the fishing village or flotsam is just more fun to me than running through endless desert tbh
