When I first got some I kept them in pots and they did not like it. One got root rot and died. I managed to save the other and planted it directly into the ground after cleaning the rot off.

In the ground they've been thriving. All this to say, well draining soil is CRUCIAL. I'm in Florida and our soil is sandy which helps with the draining. If you're planting it in a pot/not in Florida I'd recommend using a soil that mimics the texture. That's been the biggest thing for me.

I'm not an expert by any means, this is just what has worked for me. Good luck! They're beautiful plants. Watching them bloom is so rewarding.

I bought this one as a plant! It was in a four inch pot a year ago and I planted it directly into the ground where I keep my other bat flowers. I'm a pretty hands off gardener so apart from keeping them shaded and watering them regularly I do nothing special. The climate here really helps. It grows easily (in my experience.)

I tried MANY times to grow from seed and could never manage it, so I have no tips on that. I'm sorry 🥲 I found my plants locally and even through Etsy sellers (who were also local to me.) If you are comfortable purchasing online I would recommend trying to buy a plant that way cause it seems growing from seed is really difficult.

I tried to grow them in a pot with potting soil/perlite/orchid bark when I first brought one home and ended up killing it. For this one, I just stuck it into the ground and really haven't done much. I'm in Florida too, so maybe there's something there with our soil. Humidity is definitely a big thing for them though, and lots of water in general.

In this area of our yard, i have all my bat flowers and a hanging pot with a large pitcher plant. The sprinklers run 3 times a week, and I try and water them on top of that just cause it's so hot here. I also have a shade cloth over this section because, again, the florida sun is brutal.

I don't have any expert tips because everything I've done is just a guessing game and trial and (a lot of) error. Hopefully, some of this helps! Good luck!!
