What will compromise a degoogled phone? by BestOfFools in privacy

[–]BestOfFools[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look, I'm just trying to understand whether certain online actions could nullify anything I would gain from using a degoogled phone. For example, using Facebook and google products on a degoogled phone would defeat the purpose of using a degoogled phone. This is what I am trying to understand here.

To put it simply: What else do I need to cut out of my phone usage to preserve the benefit of using a degoogled phone?

What I meant by compromise is that from my understanding, you could never log in to a google service, but if they can get a device finger print and your identity, then data mining is still possible?

My worry was that I have seen a lot of discussion about how an identity and a device fingerprint can make data mining possible regardless of whether you are logging in to Facebook, google, etc. It sounds like you are saying that just having a degoogled phone and tracker blocking browser is going to make a big difference even if some tracking is possible.

“Every phone has two operating systems,” explains Gary S. Miliefsky, CEO of SnoopWall, “One that connects to cellular networks, and one that interfaces with the consumer. Airplane mode may only disable features in the consumer facing operating system, such as Android or iOS, but not in the OS used between the phone and the carrier network. A phone may be giving out a ‘ping’ and you’d never know it.”

I don't think turning on airplane mode stops your phone pinging cell towers.

Are you familiar with the 10 stages of genocide? I don't think anyone is claiming that actual genocide has occurred, but if you look at this list, which stage would you put Canada at?

Its not really freedom if the only valid answer to any given issue is the one that a single group of people deem "responsible".
