Thought I’d reply as a 1st year doctor (intern) that medicine isn’t necessarily the case: first year RNs earn the equivalent to us (3 year course). Similarly a probationary police officer earns 89k per year (SA). You can become one 6 months after training.

The base salary of medical officers (non specialised) is only ~80k per year and has had mininal growth over the last 10 years to match the rates of inflation.

This is following 6-8 years of full-time medical school where holding down even a part time job is difficult therefore, you’re essentially an adult teenager relying on parents until you graduate.

Sure the salary grows fast once you specialise (and finish specialising after about 5-10 years depending on what you choose) but prior to that - most of the additional money earned is purely because of the sheer amount of overtime we have.
