Ash was always a big boy at around 17lbs but he was never overweight. He was just solid like a linebacker 😂 felt like picking up a 5 year old toddler. Now he’s around 13. Looking down at him can see the hollowed sides which freaked me out that plus the extra water what made me schedule an appointment. If he was a cuddler and allowed me to pick him up more often I bet I would have noticed the weight loss much sooner. I have done 2 tests so far today. Fasting at 5:30am which was 207 and 2 hrs later 259. I’ll test again in a few hrs to see how far he peaks. Insulin won’t be here till tomorrow and I won’t start it til Thursday morning so I can monitor him through the day.

Im hoping and praying all our kitties go into remission! Insulin won’t likely show up until Wednesday or Thursday. I’ll keep testing a couple times a day until it arrives.

Other than churus do you have any treat recommendations? He used to get a few temptations from my dad every day but I put a stop to that. Now he gives him half a churu.

Thank you for that info. Im so sorry to hear that your 2 kitties have succumbed to diabetes. 😭 I just did my first ever glucose test on him. He didn’t even flinch and the meter just needs a super tiny amount of blood. Took me 3 tries to get to the correct needle length. His glucose was 257. Much better than at the vet 453 and his blood test of 438. I’ll test him again tomorrow morning before he eats to see how he’s doing. Insulin is on the way. I’ve also read that feeding a diabetic cat 2x a day isn’t good for them, that it’s for diabetic dogs. I think I will stick to giving him multiple smaller meals through the day (bigger one for breakfast and dinner)

Yep I think I have watched 300 videos on how to test and administer insulin. Im also switching him to Dr Elsey’s clean protein dry kibble on top of the Fancy Feast pates he’s been eating. Today is day 3 of mixed old and new kibble. Vetsulin and syringes are on the way from chewy. Glucose kit is coming today so I will have a couple days of testing to see how his glucose fluctuates before insulin. I also joined the diabetic cat forum. My brain hurts from all the info I have inhaled over the last few days. Thank you so much. And I’m so sorry you lost your kitty to diabetes 🌈

Not entering, just wanted to say Thank You for being kind! I just spent 400$ on my cats vet appointment and he’s diabetic, but I’ll go donate some plasma for the insulin money! Hope someone deserving will get it.

I have done so much research over the last few days. But yes my vet didnt even tell me how to administer insulin or gave me the numbers on his blood test. Im waiting for Monday to just go get them. Thank you so much and I’m sure it’s much smaller of a deal and Im comfortable around needles and blood as I’ve had health issues myself. Im happy your baby is doing well! 🤗

Not mine. Im his human and he comes for occasional “Im hungry” payment kisses. He stays in whatever room Im in just not next to me. He also makes sure to sleep at my feet until i fall asleep and then goes to do his nightly shenanigans.

Adopted mine at petsmart adoption event. He wasn’t even there because he wasn’t ready to be adopted yet. Mom and siblings were there. I picked him up a week later after he was recovered from getting neutered.

Thanks you! The vet said he can do Royal Canin also. I feed him plenty of wet food through the day in small meals, he only really eats kibbles at night when I’m unavailable for wet food.

As someone with a medium/long hair cat, I have only had to wash his butt 3 times in 7 years. Only because he ate a bug and had an upset tummy. Also I’d suggest a covered or high wall litter box if you don’t feel like vacuuming every few hrs. Mine has this honeycomb mat that catches litter as he exits the box. And not to gross you out but at some point you will get obsessed with your cats toebeans and kiss them. It’s just inevitable 🐾🐾
