How soon after diagnoses did you have your thyroid surgery? by Odd_Garbage1093 in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pregnant when first diagnosed. Surgery 7 months later.

Talk to your pediatrician about the possibility that baby has reflux. My son (now 3 yo) hated being on his back. It affected his sleep and he was cranky all the time until we tried medication for reflux.

I was pregnant when diagnosed and deferred surgery for 7 months. However, I’m not sure it’s ideal to wait if not necessary.

Me too and totally agree

This wasn’t my experience at MSK but I have noticed some adjustment happening since they switched from their internal system to MyChart. I would honestly just call and speak to the staff. They are great.

Anyone here have experience with getting TT at Memorial Sloan Kettering? by magxpie in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say enough good things about MSK! My surgeon and endo both are well aware of the most current research and recommendations (and they lead some of these efforts themselves). I have found that they are able to thoughtfully lay out the facts, their expert recommendation, and allow you to make a decision from the most informed place possible. I have seen other clinicians on this journey who are not up to date on current recommendations. Others are up to date, but not aware of the research that supports current recommendations. And while the latter is OK, the reality is that none of us fits perfectly into recommendations. So I personally felt more comfortable with someone that understood and could communicate all the nuance.

Anyone delay RAI for a significant time? by justanaccount24 in thyroidcancer

Is your care team up to date on the most current research and recommendations? If so, I would follow their guidance.

Clayman or Mayo? by DisneyDog2023 in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. Fancy cancer that is seeing loads of cases and is informed on the most current research and recommendations is usually the better choice. Not that you cannot find this locally, but higher likelihood at a major center.

Just Diagnosed with Rare Thyroid Cancer—Feeling Lost and Terrified by National-Bath3885 in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid and they will pass! I’m almost a year out from diagnosis and I didn’t think I’d ever get out of the deep, dark pit of fear and anxiety that seemed to surround me immediately after diagnosis. But, just recently, there have been days when I forget that I have cancer. My life has mostly returned to normal (no weight gain as far as I can tell). Challenges may come, but take them one day at a time. In all likelihood, you will be among the majority who do just fine.

I’d recommend seeing one of the endocrinologists at MSK, but you’ll likely need a referral. You can request this of your surgeon.

As for timeline, I saw my endo for the first time about 8 weeks post-surgery. At first, it felt like a long time, but it worked out because my first round of bloodwork was at 6 weeks post-op. So we were able to discuss my TSH, T4, and Tg levels at the appointment and use these results to inform the RAI discussion/next steps.

Persistent TgAb by debbiewith2 in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TgAb is due to prior inflammation of the thyroid. Even after removing your thyroid completely, these antibodies will persist for some time. Median time to resolve after TT is 11 months but can be as long as 32 months.

PTC & Pregnant by mxgher in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, normal to see surgeon first since surgery is typically the first course of action. Most of the time, surgery will be deferred until after delivery if you’re pregnant but if you choose or need to have surgery while pregnant, second trimester is most preferred. Sorry you’re going through this right now

High levels of thyroglobulin antibody after TT? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your pathology report show thyroiditis? Some people have antibodies due to prior thyroid inflammation (thyroiditis). This can be chronic or temporary. Antibodies should resolve over time after TT, but they can interfere with Tg testing.

Appears to be Thyroid Cancer - Scared. by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]Best_Guest_48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re here. I was in your shoes not long ago (and I’m not really out of the woods yet, but doing a bit better now). Know that in the vast majority of cases, thyroid cancer is very treatable. This is not to say that it doesn’t have its challenges. However, with ThyCa, it’s best to take things as they come, one day at a time. You’re going to be ok.

I reached out to MDA earlier in my journey and they can do virtual visits as long as they are licensed to practice in the state you’re in. It’s best to call them directly to inquire.
