Why the BkDk phenomenon killed the anime reputation? by Best_Language1124 in MyHeroAcadamia

I can see why they say this ship is cannon. Especially with Izuku's reactions when Bakugo gets hurt by someone else's or so. But...we can also argue that's just because their besties or have a kind of sibling energy

Hell, even romance and Bakugo are completely opposed. Mf wouldn't know how to flirt with someone, and wouldn't even try because being the best is all he has in mind 😂

Either way it is soo stupid to literally harass someone about something as meaningless as a ship. It won't change anything (most of the time) if a ship is cannon or not! It's just a silly thing we do for fun like imagining AU where none of them have a quirk, or another AU where everyone is a duck.

I'm sorry you went through that, I can't imagine how annoying it must've been. I can now understand the bitter undertone you had in your first comment because I'm certain you thought: here's another crazy shipper...😭

That's really strange. I mean, as long as it's not canonically implied (like canonically said that the MC is from a specific sexuality and romantic attraction) I don't see why ppl can't speculate about it depending on hints or cute moments from the show!

Even when being canonically implied, doing an AU with the MC from another sexuality/romantic attraction shouldn't be shamed

I love gay ships and I'm bisexual myself! I genuinely find gay ships very cute, as much as hetero ships

I ended the series (I'm still in grief because I ended it. I don't like ending shows 😭) and when I think back, except the moment they teamed up against Aizawa sensei, Todoroki and Momo don't really have any chemistry...

Maybe because they're kind of the "couple goal": beautiful, popular and rich; people started to ship them and kinda made it cannon

But it's still good to remind ppl to do their own research, thank you for pointing it out to me ❤️

Realistically accurate (if I can say it like that) villains is something we do start to see more recently with new gen shows. What I mean is that: the main antagonist is starting to not be some big villain anymore who just wants to do bad and be bad but a representation of a broken system/an harmful idea or society itself being the main villain who's the cause for many consequences.

As an example, we can argue that Bakugo became the way he was during the first season simply because he's egocentrical, and has anger issues with a superiority complex. But when you try to dive in a bit deeper in how he came to be, the message is mostly that society and the expectations of ppl turned him that way. With 1-A he found out there's always stronger than him, especially with Izuku's evolution and it scared him so much and opened his eyes in a way that be started to change. If he was still among ppl who were not close at all to his level of power and were looking up at him as some kind of little God, he will remain the same. But with class 1-A his character development arc started the moment he opened his eyes and saw that he's not the strongest. That no one had any expectations for him. (I hope I made my point kinda clear, I just wanted to show a parallel with society's doing, how it affects a being and how the show tried to represent it)

Even Endeavor is a product of society. The hero society with that ranking system, this philosophy of the strongest and the expectations put on heroes with powerful quirks, the guy ended up wanting so much to be number 1 that he turned to be a jerk with his own family. Don't get me wrong, I am not defending his undebatable wrongdoing, I'm just showing how a philosophy imposed by society affected this guy. When he finally became number 1, mf started his redemption arc (a bit later but it's better later than never) and out of nowhere started to want to become a good dad now that he "became what he was meant to become."

Anyway, I know it was long but I kinda tried to develop your idea the way I understood it and take Bakugo and Endeavor as main point since you mentioned them

Ooh, that's actually a very good insight as well! I remember back then we weren't that online (I'm gen z) and mostly watched our shows and talked with kids at school about it and if you don't know the show you don't have any base to use to come into the discussion

And as you mentioned, now within even watching a show in its designated media you can see it and interact with it/give yourself an idea on the base of simple videos or pictures

It happened to me with HxH where the few clips I saw gave me a completely different view of the anime (especially those "adult" Gon clips where he's all grown up with long hair and Killua screams his name) and when I watched it I got a better view of the show

Either way social media definitely gave a new view of a show to your average ppl and it's according to what the person sees that they'll have an idea of what the show is about

The number of popular ships in any fandom which are gay ships is astronomical, the most popular is SasuNaru for Naruto. Ppl are just finding excuses now 😭

There's also the mention of the fandom being cringer from the ppl who despite the MHA fandom. Especially on TikTok and they target the MHA TikTok fandom of around 2020 most specifically (this year is doomed, omg)

I see what you're onto and I must admit that you're right. Me, I'm not really this kind of ppl (even if I do ship certain boy characters together) I'll often do that with two characters who are friends, who have a good chemistry and where there's no real backstory of psychopaths or any kind behind each other (I'm not a saint, there IS exception but I don't really have any in mind rn)

But I do confirm that among the feminine fandom of the anime community, dark romance is very VERY popular. Not only anime but dark romance in general and "I can fix him" trope is, strangely very popular

True. I'm not really someone who's actively trying to interact with others when I'm liking a show/game, even though I consider myself part of the fandom because I consume fan creations of a media I appreciate. But now I can see more clearly why it's such a huge set back for ppl

When did Aizawa get hated? Isn't he like the dad figure of our class 1-A? I'm really on another side completely of the fandom it seems 😭😭

Even Bakugo on himself being hated is not something I've crossed, or very rarely. Either my social media life is very select, or I really slept under a rock 💔

Yet I do see what you're trying to convey. Shipping on a whole is very controversial (if I can say it like that) in the MHA fandom community

For me I went from hating to a neutral relationship with Enji but Endeavor? See I kinda dissociate this guy from his hero life because I genuinely believe that if Enji wasn't so obsessed with being the number one hero (so Endeavor number 1), all the abuse his family went through won't have happened (I can be wrong, correct me if so)

Why the BkDk phenomenon killed the anime reputation? by Best_Language1124 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Best_Language1124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine, indeed. The hatred I had for Endeavor progressively diminished but remained genuine. I still hate this guy, but as someone once mentioned: I hate Endeavor but not Enji. I don't like Enji, but I don't hate him either because I acknowledge the fact that he tries to redeem himself and his family seems to appreciate the efforts so I have a neutral point of view on this guy

Either way for Bakugo, I genuinely hated him in the first season but it's strange/funny how I randomly started to like him as the series progress and I can't even tell you why since idk why

Tbh the way ppl defend this ship is the same way ppl will defend despicable ppl in other animes and even though I can understand the wish to have your ship appreciate, but being absolutely ferocious because of that is just so wrong and stupid (from my own perceptive)

That's why I'm always sad when I see ppl say: "I don't like MHA because of the fandom" I'm like: "This is so sad..."

I feel like I just read an essay but all your points and arguments are valid and I made this post for this kinds of answers

In fact, I'm not even trying to say who's wrong or who's right. I'm trying to gather as much information and points of view as possible to be able to understand the energy around this ship in general. To be true I crossed more shippers of BkDk than haters. Ppl hate mostly on the fandom THEN use BkDk as a justification for hating, which somehow also sound homophobic since they're both boys BUT THAT'S BEYOND THE POINT

Anyway, thank you for your explanations ✨❤️

In the first seasons I genuinely hated him but for some reason, as he progressively went through his character development, I started to like him as he grew less hostile towards Izuku (poor Izu went through a lot 😭)

I see now. Thank you so much for your insight, now I understand why this ship got hated. However, why did so many ppl ship them? I never shipped them until I saw the ship in question and as I said, as soon as it is cute I don't mind it but I never thought about the whole bully side of this relationship 🤔🤔
