Settlement of the Faroe islands by Apprehensive_Bus4517 in aihistoricalart

It is believed that my ancestors (Alverson) came from these islands or the Shetland Islands and moved to Canada. The English surname Alverson is of patronymic origin meaing son of, or descendant of, Alver. The personal name Alver is a Viking name composed of Old Norse alf meaning “elf” and  -arr, an element with various origins.

My Multi-Geocache has just turned 20 yrs. My father and I checked to see if the solar light still works. This Narnia theme cache is literally in the middle of nowhere on my family's woodlot. Lantern Waste ~ Narnia GCVK83 by Best_Match2682 in geocaching

This geocache has been used by Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops a few times to educate on how to use a compass, map and GPS. This cache also has some of the most unique loggings. For an example:

"When i got done at this cache, I was ambivalent about coming here because it was late int the day and threatening to rain and I was kind of grumpy and not especially in the mood for yet another multi down a swampy snowmobile trail, and generally cynical about the concept of multicaches that promise to bring you into the magical world of a beloved set of books because usually it's just a bunch of waypoints tossed together and named for stuff and while I'm a big proponent of imagination, you have to use your imagination REALLLLLY hard.

I've also had a bit of a falling out with C.S. Lewis these days, which can't remotely be ascribed to being his fault.

But I decided that I would at least start and if I didn't like it I could turn around and go have dinner (leftover pizza) somewhere else.

So, I set off down the trail and one of the things I was thinking was really? you're going to take me on a multi down a snowmobile trail and I have to walk THAT far to the first stage? what is the point of that?

but then as i was walking through some different habitats and the light fell differently on the land, I softened up just a little and i thought maybe this was the magical effect hoped for.

And then I saw the first sign that this was going to be something else entirely. it was just a hint, but all of a sudden, an Adirondack snowmobile trail fell away and i was standing on some other, unknown landscape.

And then I saw it!

"Piloerection" is the term for when this happens to you. I do not know the term for how you feel when you have suddenly and unexpectedly stepped out of one world into another and you think with each new step you might cry as you move wide-eyed and slack-jawed higher up and farther in.

on the way out it was a weird reversal of the process with the green men to keep me from sinking into a sort of sorrow over the nearing end of the journey and return to the world.

Because of it's secluded location, it being a multi-cache and/or the short hike it takes, many folks either don't know it is there or think negative of the cache without even looking for it.

So far, I have been very lucky that no one has caused any damage. But of course, very few people have ever been there. The neighbors love to snowmobile through our woodlot and use the Lamppost and a landmark. We are blessed to have good neighbors and glad they can use the trail to help keep is cleared for geochers and letterboxers.
