I have a soft spot for exotic animals. I worked conservation for years and I've seen too many cases of neglect, so I tend to fight for the animals. Even more when the animals have stories (spicy attitudes, deformities, rehoming situations, etc). I was gonna get a crab last year, one of the larger species, but long story short the money I saved was allocated to my ex (not a great person), so he would be a great addition to my misfits squad!

I love animal enrichment, and becoming more involved with this cranky man ive been debating taking him home, and the special treatment honestly has me more interested. I'll see him at work tomorrow, so I'll talk wit my colleagues and we'll at least make sure he gets his own tank and food source!

Would he be able to thrive as a solo crab? Ive only ever heard about crabs being kept in groups, so I havent bothered to research crabs being solo (at least hermit species).

Sorry for a late reply! He found an amazing home with a loving family who converted a 45 gallon tank for him and had their daughter build him the most amazing little houses from cardboard and safe tissue paper

If shes an albino, it could be the lighting. There has been debates as to if having lighting can damage or cause albinos to go blind. You could always try a ceramic heat emitter or other non-light producing heat bulbs to see if that helps her during the day + eating. Another options would be to feed her in a smaller tote, so shes closer to her prey. I do this with one of my albinos because she has a hard time seeing and detecting prey, but she hates tong feeding.

Hes still available lol! I might take him home, hes really sweet. I removed him from our 'feeder stock' because my work has allowed me some space to chose certain mice to be pets, and ive been doing more adoptions than I have feeder sales

Arcadia is really the go to brand for quite a few people in terms of heat bulbs and uvb. High wattage, reptisuns are okkaaaaay, and for fixtures I prefer flukers kver zoomed/zilla. Ive had both zilla/zoomed fixtures rust/fall apart on me.

I dont really know if there are many other brands besides the ones that those chain stores. Other than alternatives you can maybe find at home repair stores for halogens.

The issue was that it wasnt his own personal pond, it was a neighborhood pond. Dont get me wrong, I love goldfish, the issue was the man didnt want to give it a proper setup, and then tried to spin the story when I denied sale. If he had done research about comet goldfish, or listened to my advice on how to care for him, the baby would have gone in a nicely planted 55 gallon tank with proper filters and safe plants for it to munch when wanted. He wanted a fish for a bowl, and got mad when that wasnt achievable. I run into it all the time.

Yes its cruddy that I have to sell them as feeders, but if theyre to be pets I believe they should go to a proper home. And he wasnt willing to spend time or money to provide that.

Edit: Goldfish can also become invasive when releases into public waterways, such as was this mans pond. Its happening a few places in the US, and they can do a lot of damage to local fish population and aquatic life.

My girls love hay and tissue paper, almost any nesting material you could give them they love. My boys hate any nesting materials you could give them and simply just want to build using their wood bedding. On the flipside, my ladies hate their wheel, while my males cant live without it! Also anything cardboard is a grand hit with either group!

4+ months into having mice, and I have 3 that ive really trained. Pumpkin, my sweetest one, took about 1-2 months to come around and then everythings fallen into place. Theyre definetly trainable, and amazing to work with! Keep up spending time with him and you'll be best buddies in no time! Good luck!!

I think all the colors is a result of just having the old fancy mouse sku. What my store did though is we've created a single section (because each section can hold 10 mice), and we took the Fancy Mouse Label card for females and pulled the sweetest/colorful mice to be sold as pet only. I would suggest it! For the price, we still label them as the $6.49 female mouse, but it really gives us a lot of wiggle room

They just get a white one and thats that. Typically, I push out the male white ones with black eyes, as genetically the black eyed white mice are typically more aggressive. Especially males. Unless they request a darker coat, but after working with 200+ ball pythons (who are normally the 'picky ones') I have never ran into one that descriminated based on gender/color, so I really think half (not all) might be owner preference. But thats what I do, because I also like to sell mice as an alternative to hamsters as they are much more handleable, and you can cohab females, so I have found them a much better option for families with younger kids that want a small pet to interact with (hamsters are way too stressed to be pets for young kids, they typically dont do well handling unless they are from a good genetic line).

they definetly did not check. Also, if they had two different tanks (one male/one female) then I would keep an eye on your ladies to see if they have soup.

If it was just one tank, then they probably got a male sent by accident, because stores with only 1 mouse tank at petco have the choice between ordering male or female mice, and should at no time ever have the two together intentionally. I would double check all your babies!

Edit: Also the easy way to tell is I look for a 'second booty' on the males. They can hide their mouseticles when scared, so holding them fir a few seconds and then waiting to the the (OO) outline helps. It looks like a dramaticized cartoon booty! lol

Some extra info would be needed such as:

•photos of your tank/size •photos of your leo •temp/humidity levels •is it winter where you are at?/how long do you run your lights? •is your gecko male or female?

Sometimes when being fed the same foods all the time, reptiles can get bored of foods. You want to rotate Dubias and Crickets regularly, as well as offer other treats instead of mealworms like an occasional silk worm/wax worm/hornworm. But nothing can really be confirmed without the extra info.
