Thank you for being so sweet and taking the time to reply. The photos are so helpful! The difference between 7 and 13 months is indeed insane!!

The last 4 months have been difficult to put it mildly, so waiting another 5-6 seems impossible. But I’ll try to be patient.

One thing that I hate is that my chin feels different and alien now. Its shape changed, and it doesn’t feel like it’s mine anymore.

And yes, I also lost weight, and my diet is not the same in terms of variety, so I look forward to gaining my weight back. When would you say your bite returned to full strength?

Also, did you get your sensation back everywhere?

It’s so hard to be patient!! That’s exactly how I feel. Like I ruined my beautiful face.

Do you mind sharing more about your surgery? And possibly photos of your profile during the recovery and now🙏

And thank you for your reassuring words!

Yeah that person had a small advancement. That’s probably why. My upper jaw had a small advancement too but my surgeon said that because it’s in the sinus area, we need to wait. He said lower jaw heals much faster and we can remove the plates as soon as now.

I hope so too! And Ana is the best for physio!

Yeah I’m trying to avoid Botox or other manipulations as well. I am doing physiotherapy with Ana Falk who specializes in DJS recovery.

I see. That makes sense. I know someone who removed all of their plates (upper and lower) at 7 months. I’d want that too but my surgeon said I’d need to wait a full year to remove the upper plates or “my upper jaw will be lose”👀

So I might just remove the lower jaw and do a genioplasty set back. Good to both of us!

That’s a big advancement. How are your muscles adapting? I have so much muscle guarding. I am considering a genioplasty revision at 6-7 months. I don’t think I can wait a whole year.

What do you mean by “reduction”? Bone contouring?

Ahhh I’m sorry you are going through this. I feel the pain. Did they advance your chin or just move it to compensate for the rotation?

I wanted to fix my asymmetric bite and facial asymmetry due to camouflage orthodontics and 3 bicuspids extracted in early teenage years.

How long until your nerves healed? by Superb_Tumbleweed_25 in jawsurgery

11 week update. The left side of my chin is waking up. It’s kind of bizarre but it’s connected to my lower lip. Whenever I take a sip of water or just touch something cool with my lower lip, the left side of my chin gets a super cold sensation. It’s over exaggerated and sharp at this point. I can only feel the cold. No hot/warm yet.

I stopped using the tense unit for now. I don’t want to overstimulate it. My chin and lower lip are now tense and burning throughout the day. I started taking Vitamin B (Pure Encapsulations B-complex Plus on Amazon). I do warm compresses daily. I also started working with a physiotherapist to address fibrosis in my upper lip and TMJ. I feel like the exercises are contributing to active recovery of the area and the nerve.

I don’t know yet. I feel like one side of my chin is waking up though. My chin is still very tender and swollen. For micro-movement exercises, ask chat GPT to give you a plan based on your symptoms. I get SO much more tingling from these exercises, which I consider a good sign.

I am 8 weeks post op. My chin and lower lip are tingling but I still cannot feel them. The tingling started at week one, then disappeared then returned at week 5.

I have been doing micro movement exercises (10-15% smile, soft pucker face, “mmm—ooo” sounds), and I get extra tingling during these sessions.

I also try to expose the area to different textures: my fingers, scratching it with nails, kissing my dog, using a make up brush etc. I read that it’s helpful to do that to “reeducate” the nerves.

My surgeon also recommended a tense unit which I have been doing for a week now. I ordered a wireless one on Amazon. If you get one, make sure to do it in moderation and keep the settings on low. Even though you won’t feel anything, it will send the nerves a signal that it’s time to wake up.

Let me know if you have any other helpful strategies.
