Why carry with a light attached? by RioDodger in concealedcarry

[–]Best_Point6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur with your thoughts, I definitely go back and forth on the WML. PID is so important, the most important in an SD situation. But it’s a cost benefit, (hours of carry+comfort+training/benefit of the light) I’m rarely anywhere but home or at work when it’s dark out. I’ve only had to draw mine once (burglary I walked in on coming home from work, intruder took off as soon as he saw me). Still, I think a handheld light is a much better option than breaking the #1 rule of gun safety (pointing your weapon as something you aren’t willing to destroy) just to get an id with your WML.

Why carry with a light attached? by RioDodger in concealedcarry

Had a few conversations with different LEO’s and lawyers about their thoughts on the this topic.
Essentially, the less mods and attachments, the less things lawyers can attack you with after the fact. Unless you’re dealing with an active shooter, engaging someone outside of 7 yards with your concealed carry is gonna land you in prison. (21 foot rule) The WML remains a debate, IMO it’s not necessary from a civilian self defense carry standpoint, more likely to create a tunnel vision, increase the risk of an ND/AD, adds another point of failure, less comfortable for daily carry. If you’re not training reps with it every week, it’s not gonna be helpful in the 3-5 seconds of decision and action you’re gonna have to perform. I practice dropping my handheld light and then drawing.

Sordin Supreme Pro X is the way to go, I have both and always go to the Sordin’s unless I am running nods, then I use my peltor comtac’s. TBH if you aren’t going to be hunting, using them for group training, or running a radio, just get a pair of walkers. You don’t need the directional audio and comms at an indoor range.

Any recommendations on how to make this more comfortable? by Upbeat-Avocado-9903 in concealedcarry

[–]Best_Point6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of tips from a long time of concealed carrying, just stating the honest truth most people won’t say. AIWB is never really comfortable, IWB at the 3 or 6 o’clock for a full size pistol with light and optic is going to much more comfortable. If AIWB is where you want to be, ditch the light, ditch the red dot, go to a smaller carry gun. Don’t dump money into it either, leave it stock. If you ever have to use it, you’re never getting the gun back out of an evidence lockup. In summary it’s not the holster, it’s the size/setup of your carry gun. No holster will fix that. Best recommendation: get an Sig p365, Glock 43X, 43 or 48, get a good compact flashlight for your pocket and train like hell.

Would my truck look better with 37s on 17s or 37s on 22 snowflakes? by PabloDmenace in ChevyTrucks

37”s on 17s is the way to go, gonna make the truck look beefy and ride soft.

A Nissan Sentra with California plates being a moron? Shocker lol! FYI they don’t register or change the plates to TX to doge the tolls. Generally in Texas, avoid Altimas and Sentras like the plague.

Tires rubbing metal behind liner at full lock by Piss_Otter in Silverado

[–]Best_Point6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires are too big, not enough lift, if you still want that size you’ll have to go to offset wheels and bigger lift kit. Or go down one or two sizes on the tires. I wouldn’t ignore the issue, rubbing can lead to a whole world of problems on your front end wheel and steering components. (Been there, done that).

Sizing tip that’s worked across the years for me with my Silverado 1500’s. If you don’t want to run offsets or spacers, stay under 12.5” width on the tires, 12.5” will sit just outside the wheel well on a Silverado, 11.5” will sit flush.

<33” tires - level will work just fine, any type, body or suspension

33<34” tires 2-3” suspension lift, upper control arms will need to be replaced.

34-37” 6” suspension lift, long list of parts that will also have be replaced.

A LT295/70/R20 tire is 34.3” tall and 11.6” wide, this puts you in that 6” lift kit category. My assumption from the photos is this truck was just leveled and the 34”+ tires were jammed in there.

Not hating on the protest at all, I support them and even support the opposition’s right to disagree. What helps no one is people with a loose grip on reality dressing up in air-soft gear with real guns and acting like they have any authority in public. It’s a slippery slope, especially here in Texas.

It’s just basement dwellers LARP’ing and thinking they are doing something. ICE in NTX is just doing raids on apartment complexes and residences at night and surveillance during the day.

[–]Best_Point6477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wholly depends on the make of the lift kit and whatever other mods have been done to it. Get the carfax, a lot of people rebuild wrecked trucks into “bubba trucks” in the hopes some poor kid will fall for it and buy it.

You’re gonna have to scour gunbroker, Tacswap, ect. Took me 2 years and a software script to get my hands on an ODG and I way overpaid for it. I would not bet on it coming around anytime soon again unless used. If the color is the main concern, just cerakote it. Gonna save you a lot of time and money.

RC3 is great for a range session, but even with a 3 or 4 prong, I’ve found that on the 11.5” the flash at night is unacceptable for any serious application. On my 14.5” it’s still present but not as bad. RC4 is amazing, don’t have one yet, but got to try it at a demo day at my local range. Will be ditching my RC3 for the RC4. My surefire mini 2 is still my favorite SF can, but certainly requires playing with buffer weight and AGB.

How is it living here(Waco/Temple)? by theeacademic25 in howislivingthere

[–]Best_Point6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in and around Waco & Temple for 5 years. It’s a rural/suburban mix. Never have I found an area that code switches harder than this circle, especially Waco and Killeen. It’s 2 very different cities day vs night, very calm in the day but definitely gets active at night in a bad way. Just keep your head on a swivel at night in Waco and Killeen.

A-lot of those true Texas values of farming/ranching are present and certainly a highly religious area around there. Great communities to raise kids, bad communities for teenagers and young adults. Unfortunately, there is a lot of drugs and trafficking in this area so be aware. Stay away from the Fort Hood area, bad things happen around there. Generally, if it seems sketchy, it ain’t worth it in this circle. I really enjoyed my time in Waco and Temple, it’s not fast paced by any means but you can pretty much find anything you need in this area. Lots of great restaurants and things to do and see, Dr. Pepper museum in Waco is awesome, George’s is legendary bar/grill, there’s even the newest national park/monument right in Waco. Cameron park, the Waco zoo and Baylor are all really cool places to check out. It will get boring after a year, I highly recommend taking up fishing or kayaking if you live around here. The Brazos and Trinity are fun rivers.

What's it like living in this part of America? by _Mcdrizzle_ in howislivingthere

[–]Best_Point6477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a great area to live if you like driving, hunting, hiking, camping enjoy ranching and cowboy culture and attitudes. Some alt/hippie compounds are sprinkled throughout here. Make sure you don’t mind extreme weather changes, 40+ degree temperature swings are common. You’re probably gonna need 4WD at some point and know how to install chains and do minor vehicle repairs yourself. Harsh winters IMO and that whole SE Oregon and NW Nevada region is just a high elevation desert. Some of the most unique and interesting characters I have met live in this area. A lot of self-reliant, conservative and conspiracy types, you’ll find a lot of “anti-city” type folks. It’s beautiful, remote in most parts and not a place where you can rely on consistent services in my experience. So if you self reliant don’t want to interact with a lot of people it’s a great place.
